Casey, I have a pair of nearly brand new orange adjustable Koni's you can have for $100.00. They have never been on the road, just got fitted to my original project car, Ti Hatch for transporting to new premises and now out, as it got scrapped for parts. As for higher rate rear springs, for reasonably normal day to day driving, the stock ones are fine about 120~130lb/in. Get new fronts at about 175lb/in instead of the standards @ 108lb/in. If your in Sydney, Allsprings at Heathcote Rd Liverpool will make you a custom set for $125.00 pair. If your going this way, I have the Koni's still brand new in the box to go with them. Get a stiffer front sway bar and polyurethane bushes. What's a "negative camber plate" .................... very small one ?????????????????????? As for the diff, unless you have $1500.00 to throw around forget any upgrade, as the only upgrade is an R200 and an LSD R200 will cost you pretty much that. An open R200 from maybe a Z31 300ZX will set you back about $300 upwards depending on it's condition. I have an standard R180 open diff, 3.9:1 that came out of a car with just 40K on the clock and you can have that with a money back g'tee. The half shafts press into the side of the diff & lock with a circlip and with a couple of tire levers or big screwdrivers, you should be able to pop them out. The trick with getting them out off the hubs is the left one needs to come out upwards and the right down, or that's how I found it. They are tight, but the outer CV's are spring loaded and have enough play to remove them. Remember off the shelf cars were made to have luggage and passengers in them, that really equates to nothing as far as handling goes. Hope this helps, Cheers, Dennis

Has anyone gone down the replacement of the steering linkages yet? Does anyone know if the Tie Rod is available as a reco unit, or is it new only and is it genuine Nissan only? Same with Tie Rod ends, are they available a/mkt or genuine Nissan only? Cheers, D

Buyer's Guide - The Nissan C34 Stagea
Ghostrider replied to GoldZilla's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
A bit OT, but since when in NSW does it matter if your private rego'd or business. It is my understanding that any wagon, ute, van or larger LR/MR/HR vehicle can legally park in a loading zone. -
I have been doing some research. Some say the Tiptronic transmission isn't the go! can someone tell me why? and how do you tell the difference, as in all S2's pics I have seen so far both versions have the + & - shift in them, along with the same thing on the steering wheel. What's so bad about the Tiptronic that it should be avoided. I think something like J Spec Imports #5724 will be my preference. It looks pretty much stock, so my guess it hasn't got loads of problems associated with it. My budget's going to be around AU$20000.00. Cheers, D

Bolt On Type Wheel Spacers
Ghostrider replied to HR31Passage's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Yeah! asa opposed to the off the shelf type of spacer being a big washer, so to speak. NSW RTA & Vic Roads will not approve ANY spacer, but so long as the rego inspections don't necessitate the removal of a wheel, who will know. THe only spacer approved by CAMS is the bolt to the original studs and then mount the wheels to the new studs in the spacer. Cheers, D -
Thanks guys, I read the link and taken note of it's recommendations. I actually got blown off by a silver one, south bound on M5 between Moorebank Ave & Hume Hwy last night on the way back from the olds. Not much of a contest as I was in my daughter's U12 Ti. My biggest concern was actually fitting in one, as I'm a tad under 6' 4 I thought it may have been a problem. I was over Concord way the other day and parked my ass in a yellow S2 ($35000/98K) at Edward Lees and that is no longer an issue. As for towing issues my HR30 is only 1200kg and trailer is about 420kg, therefore I'm well under 2 tonne overall. Sydneykid has set me straight on a few things and now you have with a few more. I will get in touch with Prestige and make a few enquiries, but my plans are for the latter half of this year. Cheers, D

Works for me! You obviously know more about em than I do.

I am considering buying a Stagea S2 Neo later this year. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW? What are the pitfalls with the car, can I use it as a tow car as well as a luxury cruiser? Is there anything specific I need to know about them, do they haveany inherant problems that need to be addressed. Who is the best to import it for you? I have approached Powerplay Imports and they tell me they can get me one. Please advise. Cheers, D

Cazz, Why was there ever an Aussie built Skyline?

Bolt On Type Wheel Spacers
Ghostrider replied to HR31Passage's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Why 4 x 100? I might understand 5 x 114.3, but why this? Can't help with Vic specific, but they are the only spacers approved by CAMS. Cheers, D -

You Guys Might Have Some Competition Soon!
Ghostrider replied to Iron Chef's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
For my money ANYTHING Mitsubishi is bad news! I had some experience with Mitsubishi in a dealer a few years back, and the rep brought us out their FAST MOVING PARTS catalogue and guess what the first item was ............ Motors????? That done it for me! And most Mitsubishi parts are the dearest of all cars, they are up there with Honda & Lexus for pricing. From what I saw yesterday on my first reconnaissance run, I'll take an S2 Stagea any day. -
Cool R31 Skylines
Ghostrider replied to R32 _ULTIMATE_WEAPON's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Shites on most R31's I have seen ......... -
I dunno how you can say that Sky, with so much conviction. I have only seen 3 or 4 Passage GT's, but all have been different, different interiors, some had the rear wing and some didn't, some were badged and some weren't, all had different wheels, 1 had a body kit and the others didn't. How would you know for sure????????? The description says it's a coupe and it clearly isn't, so how come your such the veritable expert and all from a picture or 2. Still though, at the end of the day it's a 4 door R31 red top RB20DET and all the reports I have read, say the same thing, they run out of puff around 5000 so they're not as punchy as you might think. Another thing with either of the 4 door R3's, if your over about 5' 8" tall, your head & shoulder's are going to be in the middle of the back door glass, not a great place to be sitting in my opinion. If I was buying any R3 series, a coupe is the only way to go and they can be bought for this sort of money, here in Oz landed and complied and with rego. Cheers, D

Fitting An Intercooler To My Dr30...
Ghostrider replied to Matty T's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
The pics in ZOOM 53 show the radiator moved back onto the motor to allow the piping to go through the hole (original radiator placement) in the support panel. I'll try to get some scans done today and post them tonight. Cheers, D -
Can you get hold of a copy of ZOOM 53, or PM your address and I'll send you the relevent pics, or I can try and get them scanned and put on the site later tonight. Cheers, D

Not much gain???????????????????????????? Maybe you should talk to the guys on HybridZ, as they're getting over 300rwhp from L28ET's in USA and here in Oz. You don't think that's much of a gain! AND as for the LADA, it was very much an under acheiver here, but I know guys that serviced them and when looked after and serviced correctly, they were quite a remarkable little 4WD. The big problem they had here was backing, no parts or technological service back up. They were prone to failure all to often by the way they were driven, in a lot of cases. People expected more from them than they were capable of and that was the end of them. Cheers, D

Matty, That's pretty good, but that's all for fronts only eh! $300 + $500 + $175 = $975.00 for fronts only, what are you doing on the rear, using stock shocks & spring configuration, or are you modifying the shock tower to become a coil over too! My JIC's were about 50mm shorter in fitted length than the stock DR30 of the same spec. For the dollars I paid, I think I did very well, they have no leaks, they came complete with brakes, adjustable camber strut tops and the dampening is 4 way adjustable. I have since found out they cam out of a Bluebird not a DR30 as originally thought, but they fit great, the ride height will be very similar to the black sedan shown earlier in this thread. Maybe for comp days a bit lower. What I can't understand is this ........ you have done what amounts to quite an exotic modification to your front suspension, yet in another thread, your so concerned about cutting holes in a panel which may breech homoligation regs. Where do these exotic dunnydore/nissan front struts fit into homoligation regs that a hole in the radiator support panel, will not. Cheers, D

Fitting An Intercooler To My Dr30...
Ghostrider replied to Matty T's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Well the factory intercooler was a tiny thing, not much different to a stock S13 intercooler and was tucked up under the front left inner guard. From memory, the DR nose cuts I had, had 2 holes about 50mm in dia, just behind the stock airbox that were for intercooler piping. As far as I know, in NSW the RTA will allow mods to the radiator support panel, but holes have to be reinforced like we were supposed to in the early days when cutting holes in tunnels for floor shift conversions. If that isn't suitable, isn't there enough space for the piping to be compressed slightly and be channeled under the head lights, as the hole in the rad support panel is huge when Iron Mask lights are being used. -
I'm still happy with my coil overs, I bought them for $1700.00 for all 4 corners, complete with springs & seats. Fronts came with the DR bigger brakes & calipers, so I think I got a good deal at the time. As for the fuel filter .... try an L28E one ............. p/n 16400-Q0800 as there are a lont of similarities with L28ET & L20ET configurations. Cheers, D

Surprise, surprise, surprise! I downloaded this pic. It's not particularly my cup a tea, but it's still a nice car. Bit low for aussie roads. Cheers, D

My advice would be do a search in members for CAZZ and send her a PM about your concerns. She is the GURU when it comes to any of the SVD GTS R31 models and would probably be the best person to talk to. She won't put you anywhere but in the right place. For me and I'm a self confessed R31 disliker, for $6000 it's probably best suited to have a rope tied to one end and used as an anchor. Cheers, D
