Recommended Coilovers For Street Drifting?
Beer Baron replied to geraus's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
well seals need release too you know. it's not all beer and skittles. -
yes dogbones are brackets, but for good ones your looking at $400+ for them. there is no way you'll find some off the shelf to run a 7mm diameter bigger rotor. it's just not worth it. you could get them made but you're looking at $500. and again it's such a small difference it's not worth it. if you were running 280mm or even 296mm rotors it may be worth it. but 310 to 324 is NOT worth it. if you want to waste some money on gaining 14mm in rotor then by all means dig in.

and they were not flash even then! steel body, not adjustable lower mount. and twin tube shock. they are great at blowing seals, especially on macpherson strut cars. and I even bought some brand new way back in the day! they were the basic entry level damper adjustable teins. -
lol, microtech LT10 good ecu? muhahahaha. like trent said I have a small solar powered calculator that puts out better engine control in a dark room.
-
a) yes, any competent tuner can. b) yes c) that's a big 10-4. yes. d) yes, one that is not harming your engine and causing that detonation at 5,000rpm. there is no magic setting. it needs to be tuned to each application. get it on the dyno and get it adjusted.

thank god someone said it. I'm sick of people rubbishing R35s as heavy, and understeering, and un-involving all without having driven one. I have owned all model GTR from 32-35 and have driven them all on road and track. and I can tell you in standard form the 35 is by far the most exciting drive standard. they do not feel like their weight would suggest. there is a lot more to a car than the spec sheet. I mean the GTR has "only" 300 or so kw at the wheels but it's a shitload faster than any other car I've driven with 300kw atw. and that's due to the torque curve, and the box and the way it makes that power. until you drive one it's best to leave opinions on how they handle to those that have. and as for the car driving itself. turn the aids off. set gearbox to R, set suspension to R, and turn TC and DSC to OFF. then the car does what YOU tell it to. you want to light it up in 2nd at corner exit and hold that slide through 3rd? with even a small amount of skill you can. they are just a supremely capable car on and off track. I have driven plenty of other fancy cars too on and off track, porsches, lambos, ferraris etc even a ford GT supercar (not the falcon!). and the GTR is easily the measure of them.

yeah, please don't take my word as gospel. but I just don't see the value in the pass. you lock yourself in to $700 worth of trains, and if you don't use it, you lose it. pay as you go has served me better as in tokyo I use a lot of metro (not JR). and when going long trips I would want the nozomi shinkansen (over 300km/h in some sections!). and some days you wont be catching any trains, but your pass ticks over another day regardless. buying tickets is a piece of cake too. you can easily work out the cost, or if you can't be bothered or aren't sure you just buy the cheapest ticket, then use the fare adjustment machine at the other end and pay the difference. with JR pass you are confined to JR trains. without it you can use metro, JR, mono-rails, light rail, the cool shinkansen, and any day you don't use a train you don't pay any money. there are trip planning sites where you can enter in some trips and see what type of trains they use and how much it costs etc to get some idea.

yeah it's not stellar. even on the $$ models. if you want ultimate SQ then you need wire! but for lounge room systems where convenience is important wireless rears are a godsend.

agree with everything except the interior. love the 32 interior. and i've had them all from 32-35 and a fair few 32, and 3X 33 GTRs too. you are right, there is a big difference in age between a 89 32 and a 1998 R33 S3 GTR. and finding the good R32 is tough, and you'll end up paying as much for it as a decent 33. like I said, the 33s are the best value. but outright for me, the 32 is the winner.

JR pass only works on JR trains. unfortunately there are lots of other train companies in japan. and within tokyo the best way to get around is subway (of course NOT JR). yes you can use the JR pass to get from tokyo to osaka, but as you guessed on a slower/less flash train. personally I bought passes twice but then gave up on them. once I bought one of the 14 day ones. and once one of the flexi pass type ones (you can use 1 day on, one day off). they are only good value if you spend every bloody day travelling somewhere on a train. and do about 10 trips a day and all of those trains have to be JR owned. since I couldn't use them on the nozomi shinkansen which is the way to travel between tokyo-osaka-kyoto-kyushu I thought bugger that. plus in tokyo using the metro is awesome, but again, even if you have a JR pass if doesn't work on the metro so you have to pay again for that. and for example if you go out to fuji speedway, the quickest way out there is not on a JR line. same thing when you go to miyajima, in that case the only train that goes there is NOT JR. so I found even with the bloody million dollar JR pass I was paying for about half the train/metro/shinkansen trips I wanted to take. sure in lots of case I could use a less convenient option, but what's the point of that. $700 buys a lot of train tickets...... as for bus and ferry.... well you only need the bus way out in the burbs and if you don't speak and read japanese it will be hard to use. it's no where near as common as in aus, because in japan there is always a train/metro/mono-rail/light rail etc instead. and I've never been on a ferry in japan. there surely is some, but i've no idea if they are JR or not. personally I would skip the rail pass. you'll be pissed off if you don't use it all of it's days, and end up spending money on metro etc too. better off to have the $700 and money can buy you a ticket on any company train or whatever you like. just my opinion though. if you plan on using exclusively JR trains, and want to spend hours of each day on them then sure it's cheaper.

in NSW sprints GTRs are most often run in SV-D. sports sedan GTR would be 4D. hth. but technically they can run in 1,2 or 3 as they were sold here by nissan. funny you can run a 32 GTR in 1,2 or 3 (depending on mods etc). but a GTST is SVD. S13 silvia = SV. S14 silvia? 1,2 or 3.

sadly if you're going a long way you can't use the JR pass for the good bullet trains (ie nozomi 300 and 500 class trains which are the best) and you can't use it for green car unless you buy the green car pass. and yes japanese ticket inspectors are on every train, they wont fine you but they will kick you off or make you pay the fare. and if you are going tokyo to osaka, then you really do want to use the fast nozomi shinkansen as it's one of those must do things. sadly a good ticket can cost up to and over 10,000yen each way depending on where you're!! ouch.

the side mounts actually get pretty good airflow as they are ducted. being sealed in a duct they get great flow through the core. the fmics are usually just in the front with lots of air gaps around them. they do work well, but so do the smic. the ARC is a great core. probably a bit overpriced new for what they are, but second hand they can be had for reasonable money.
-
I have had them all. 32 is my favourite IF (and it's a big if) it's in good condition. it's easier to find a 33 in good nick since they were less popular there are less hard core modified ones. try to find a genuine 1 or 2 owner, standard 32 GTR. no chance, and if you do it will cost more than a 33 anyway. a 1 or 2 owner, stock 33 GTR on the other hand is fairly easy to find for reasonable money. 34 GTRs are great, but not very exciting standard, and a little overpriced for what they are now (10 years old...). 33 is the most sensible buy. but if you can get a good 32 for fair money it would be my pick. 34 is good middle ground. not super value, but the newest and most feature packed of the 3. now personally I like the 32 interior over the 33. also remember the 32 wheel is reach and height adjustable which is important to me. 33 wheel is big, and being airbag is illegal to replace, and is only reach adjustable, no height adjustment. which can make it hard to be comfy driving position wise in the 33 unless you bite the bullet and change the wheel. especially if you are tall. the 34 has the best seats, the best wheels, and the MFD is cool. it's also comfortable driving position wise, like the 32. but it also doesn't have wheel height adjustment. and also has airbag wheel. anyway, a neat 32 with some 34 wheels, 34 brakes, 34 seats and 34 engine and some GT-SS turbos and other small upgrades is the way to go.power around 300rwkw and it will be reliable for years to come if treated right.

yeah raceworx = too hard. I joined clutch fckers instead. all I had to do was give pete a 'hug', drink 10 pints in 1 sitting, chirp 2nd gear, talk like I am slightly retarded and put the sticker of 'penis man' on my car. easy.

they do have the somerset on asia rooms though. http://www.asiarooms.com/japan/tokyo/somerset_roppongi.html and the osaka hilton. http://www.asiarooms.com/japan/osaka/hilton.html lol, I remember back in 2007 or maybe it was 2006. in november I got a PS3 at the japanese launch in tokyo. the next day I was down in osaka, spent the day shopping, osaka castle etc, then that night went out to watch some street drift and togue etc. got back late to the hotel, GF was asleep I plugged in the PS3 and played it for the first time on the LCD in my hotel room. sat there drinking malts beer and chu-hi till early morning playing ridge racer and resistance on one of the first thousand or so PS3s ever made. that was a nice memory. everywhere I went in japan with that big PS3 box people would say wow! PS3 where did you get it? it was a big deal at the time as they all sold out in minutes and people were queued for kilometers around any shop that had them. when I got it back to aus people were even more shocked.

Time Between Sending Pm's
Beer Baron replied to Cartman's topic in Site discussion - including Ideas/Feedback & Bugs
yeah it does expose them. as they need to spam to be able to pm. where as before they could sign up, spam and never be uncovered unless users reported it. -
MOS Burger. they are around. you'll find one in tokyo. there are not heaps, but there is a couple in shinjuku. definitely get the cheeseburger, or the mos cheeseburger. both favourites. i've stayed in a couple places in osaka over the years. favourite was the hilton. it's a great hotel. it's in umeda which is a good base in osaka. http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/OSAH...Q&WT.srch=1 as for tokyo I also quite like staying in roppongi. I really like the somerset roppongi. it's just down from roppongi crossing, it's appartments though not a real hotel. but the rooms are awesome, views are great and the location is excellent. http://www.somerset.com/en/japan/tokyo/som...t_roppongi.html and I never book using asiarooms. I have years ago. but they suck. they are fine if everything works perfectly and you don't need any changes etc. but if you need somethnig from them, or the plan deviates, or something goes wrong, then you're fked. their little slave centre/call centre in thailand wont do sht to help you, and their cancellation policies etc are BS. japan hotels online is good.

yeah but it will run much better properly tuned with the emanage. sure he can get 200 with the stock ecu, but economy for 1 goes out the window. the car will be much punchier/crisper with a good tune in it. and will get better economy too. and trent, thanks mate.

that puff of smoke and miss at 5,000rpm could well be detonation.... considering it's running 13.5:1. it's not stupid lean, but yes it is too lean. any time you change the amount of air going into the engine you push it outside of what the ecu expects too see. sometimes it works ok, sometimes it doesn't. it could well be a dud fuel pump so it's worth checking that. it could also be a damaged afm. but most likely it's just the way to stock ecu is behaving with the increased boost over stock.

if you want decent quality and decent sound, and wireless rears you aren't going to get any better at the price than the sony system above. there are some samsung systems etc that are only a little bit cheaper, but the fall in quality is huge. the logitech type systems are toys really. designed to be used with your PC etc in your bedroom. they are ok for their price, but don't be under any illusion that they are great speakers or processors. and no wireless of course.
