Fmic, Induction Pipe And Boost Control
gotRICE? replied to Stevodm's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
What booost do you want to run? You can remove the solenoid all togetjrer and use an R32 GTSt actuator for a mean steady 10psi -
Fmic, Induction Pipe And Boost Control
gotRICE? replied to Stevodm's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
if you get the intake pipe, let us know if it fits up to the bov return etc all good. -
That is an Actuator, the rod is connected to the wastegate, and it opens when it reaches the boost its set to, via an internal spring/diapragm. Im no expert with aftermarket ones, but i would say theres sposed to be something hooked up to it? What boost does it make? The missfire could be you boosting 400000psi

x2! And if possible, could you get a before and after scan of the dyno sheets I mean.. an overlay haha

I thought i made it pretty clear i realize the full ECU is the way to go. But in the original post it also states that he is not interested in changing the turbo. If your running the stock turbo with basic mods, then to keep the cost down and get bang for buck, the SAFC is the way to go. Its always best to get the best 1st, but if your plans arent for big power, then why waste the $?
-
x2 for the blitz! I have one too. You still have to trim the bumper support *that black thing under the headlights) But thats a given with most FMIC's. If you do it right, you dont notice it much. Just take your time and black spraypaint is your friend

Fmic, Induction Pipe And Boost Control
gotRICE? replied to Stevodm's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
lol @ bungy cord for the sub box i think the hard pipe intake increases the induction noise a little. And you wont have any problem with the rubber pipe closing up under boost. you need a far bit for that to happen Have been considering the hard pipe myself, purely for the sound. -
Its almost as if this forum has shares in apexi! Every time someone asks about a piggy back, clearly stating they cant afford a Power FC they just sayto get one anyway. We all know in the long run the full ECU is a way better option, but it all depends on your needs and financial situation. Lets not forget ontop of the $1000+ ecu you need the AFM, and the $1000+ tune. Hes in the same boat as me. Wants that little bit extra from the stock turbo setup without un-necessarily breaking the bank. I for my own reasons dont want to go full ECU because i dont know what country im going to be in in the next few years and to me it seems like a waste of coin if something changes soon. I would love to do it properly. But such as life. Need to choose..

Im in the same boat dude. R33 GTSt with basic bolt ons, Turbo back exhaust, FMIC etc etc. I have an SAFC2 installed already, but just havnt got around to tuning it. If i do i will post up results. I more have it to better my fuel consumption. But if it makes more power and midrange then thats a bonus But as AdapTronic said, if your going to do anything more a full ECU is the way. Im not planning on going further so this will suffice for my needs.

You mean you want to lift it on a hoist? Just use the 4 jacking points. If they are good enough to lift 1/4 of the car, then all 4 should be well capable of lifting it. I have lifted mine from the jack points and it does nothing out of the ordinary.

Advice On Final Upgrades Before Tune
gotRICE? replied to Keeffy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The airbox would probly have to be fairly well sealed for the snorkle to achieve alot. The way i see it, the stock box sucks air through it because it has no choice, but an unsealed cold airbox wouldnt be as efficient because its clearly going to suck air from the easiest location. Oh, and listen to R31Nismoid.. he knows what hes on about! -

I would say, cold airbox with cold air feed.. but seeing as you have the Blitz Style return flow, id say, stock airbox and a decent panel filter , rather than the Pod. But thats just me.. and plenty of others agree. -
Valve Stem Seals Or Turbo? Help A Canadian
gotRICE? replied to Paradis v.1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Im guessing you didnt read every post. We came to different conclusions based on different activity. Turns out my catch can setup was causing the problem, and re-instating the PCV fixed it. BTW Paradis v.1, still rocking the non-smokey ness! -
Valve Stem Seals Or Turbo? Help A Canadian
gotRICE? replied to Paradis v.1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah sorry i meant that since the turbo was mint, i was dreading that it was engine related. Im guessing the crank was under too much pressure and it was blowing past the piston rings? One thing i did notice was that the little bung that RIPS supply with the catch can was actually slowly working its way out of the rubber seal! And the bung is so friggin tight that i had to replace the pcv seal twice because it tore. Might flick RIPS an email and ask if they have had any problems like that. See what they have to say, im sure they will be interested to know. Good luck with yours! Ill keep checking back, and if i get smoke again ill let you know haha. Stupid cars -
Never thought of that. Makes perfect sence! Is this an engine out job? Do you think you could fire up some pics when its in? I do a bit of track work in my R33, and havnt done either mods yet... bandad it with overfilling the oil slightly. And dont go quite as hard. But it still makes me nervous!
-
? Really? I have no idea how to do the restriction mod, but it sounds wierd! Do you really just tap them into the block and have them float around? ahah

Is My Vg30 45v1 Turbo Ballbearing? ((((pics))))
gotRICE? replied to migs's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ROFL after reading that, i remembered that i did notice the same person asking in about 6 threads the same question haha. Why dont you take the turbo to a turbo specialist and ask them? Its pretty hard to see from photos. And will take no time at all waiting for replies that you arent getting, and saves spamming everyone elses VG Turbo thread with your question. -
Valve Stem Seals Or Turbo? Help A Canadian
gotRICE? replied to Paradis v.1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok so the update. Went out and started up cold this morning, and nothing as usual. Car got a little warm, and there goes the ozone. Drove on the freeway for a good 20 mins to the workshop, pulled in, and was followed by a cloud So still doing it while hot. Proceeded to pull of the hot pipe, and intake pipe. The compressor side looks brand new. Im not even kidding. There is not a spot of oil on it anywhere. So this is good. Hot pipe is clean as a whistle too. No sludge, nor any oil coating of any kind. Kinda impressed to be honest! The bad thing about this, is that its engine related Re-connected the stock PCV back into the system as it is OEM. And believe it or not, i havnt seen a single whiff of smoke since! If i was in Australia, Mr SECURITY would be tripping over a large case of beer when he got home tonight. I dont want to count my apples too soon of course. But i drove around a fair bit and got not thing at all. So smiles from this end. Will check again tomorrow from cold startup. -

Will report back tomorrow Im not allowed to do "mechanical" work in my parking lot. So will be doing my checking at a mates workshop in the morning. Am going to check the turbo pipes, and re-connect my PCV to the manifold as i have been advised to try. -
HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
gotRICE? replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
But then it doesnt bleed off a few extra PSi. Will only run whatever the R33 actuator is set to, 7psi i believe. Better still, i binned mine and put a 10psi R32 actuator in. -
Valve Stem Seals Or Turbo? Help A Canadian

It is vented to atmo See in the hose that goes from the exhaust cam cover to inlet? Theres an alloy bung in there I just did that because i didnt have anything to block up the inlet, and the breather. So kept it tidy (its now black, minus cable ties) by keeping the hose there. -
Valve Stem Seals Or Turbo? Help A Canadian
gotRICE? replied to Paradis v.1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
No smoke what so ever on start up. And as much as it made me cringe, i even have it a good rev stone cold and still nothing. It takes till the car is just starting to warm up to do it (maybe the oil is starting to get thin enough to get past the stem seals or rings??). Then itl do it for a bit, and once its warmed up, as far as i can tell it doesnt do it anymore Not looking foward to a rebuild... but i have yet to take off the hot pipe and intake pipe to check for oil. My PCV is gone, old photo, looks much nicer than this now but same setup: -
Valve Stem Seals Or Turbo? Help A Canadian
gotRICE? replied to Paradis v.1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Went and had a play with mine tonight. From cold. Let it idle a little. a few blips of the accelerator. Nothing. All good. Went for a little drive (car still cold, but needle just starting to move). Stopped at some lights and gave it a blip. Cloud. Eep. Pulled over, did it some more, cloud cloud cloud. When you blip the throttle, it will shoot out smoke, then as it idles down, it will billow out for a few seconds then stop. Didnt appear to do it once the car had warmed up tho. But by this time i was pissed off and stopped looking Same as yours? Worse? Less? -
The GTSt kit just comes with gasket and bolts.
