  1. t04z too laggy for any track work unless its a big open circuit event and u like keeping it above 4500rpm all day, even the gt3540 ive seen isnt that much nicer response wise. If u plan any sort of motorkana/tight track events its gotta be a smaller setup, dont think u will get 400kw and fly around tight corners, it just doesnt happen. I would go a 3082 for high 400hp figures but plenty of response, and for low 400hp but super response go the 3076r. having shitloads of power is overrated imo, reading sites like this and everyone has a different opinion on how bad the lag is on certain turbos. If u have your car in 4th gear at 2500rpm and u plant it and u gotta wait till 4500rpm for it to go fast its a loooooong wait i can tell u that, on tight motorkana tracks u cant drop down a gear unless u wanna be in 1st gear most of the time. thats my opinion anyway
  2. this is my new stageas heart, it fired up for the first time saturday and runs like a dream, nice and quiet for a change, its untuned and few minor issues with ecu settings but shouldnt be far off being sorted. Ill post of a pic of the outside of car soon as im doin a few body changes and painting my rims etc soon.
  3. hey Tacker, have u got anymore pics of your gtr? post em up or PM them to me if u can, i love the colour scheme and rims.
  4. the flat spot for the lower tensioner is actually BELOW the water pump, i got mixed up and found out it was a s1 after i bought it. Ended up welding up the area and grinding it flat, engine is about to run in a couple of days now so ill see how it goes, shouldnt be a drama at all.
  5. check its got the flat face on the front to mount the lower tensioner below the water pump area
  6. he liked series 1 stageas better so decided to do a full conversion as the s1 grille and lights are nicer
  7. he was finished about a week ago or more, hes too slack to post pics because hes driving it instead haha i think he should come round my place and finish my car off too so i can drive mine as well, bloody greedy stagea owners only helping themselves
  8. lol fair enough, i dont see why a smaller sized single with same power output as a set of twins will be any worse off really for response, i realise the long runner manifold wont help but the lag difference is gonna be minimal at best. I think anyone who goes single usually goes for the dirty great turbos (t51r, t88, t04z, etc) and then people compare them to a set of n1's, etc and say the singles are laggy. If u are only chasing around the 400hp max mark, i would look at a gt3076, 0.82 housing, they max out around 410hp at wheels or so, but are super responsive and would be awesome on a 2.6L, i have one going on my 3l at moment, will be running in a couple of days, so will be interesting to see how it goes. my other engine has a t04z which doesnt make decent power until 4500rpm and then its flying, the 3076 should be pulling well around 3000rpm i reckon. I would stay away from the gt3540 (now called 3582), my mates ones running one is not much more responsive than my t04z and he is running poncams too, its not making anything under 4k rpm, not ideal for any street action, and only benifits is if u wanna make over 500hp at wheels. Then again some people claim these are fine and lag isnt too bad, i suppose its personal opnion, as u will know its a compromise between power capability and lag, you generally cant have both I dont know if going single is worth it for the job u want though, by the time u buy the oil and water lines, turbo, manifold, gate, modify exhuast, intake pipe mods, its not that cheap really. oil and water lines in braided last time cost me around $360 mark, in alloy metal hard lines and fittings (the stock look), cost me in the $180-$200 range. manifold depends on brand, usually around the $1200 mark for a good steam pipe one, wastegate $500-$800, turbo is $1800 or so, and then exhuast and intake mods depends on who does them. anyway thats my 2c worth on the subject
  9. are u for real with some of those answers???? a gt30 or 35 is not the same as a t51r or t88, thats complete rubbish. changing cams is not needed at all if you dont want to, it will make good power with stock cams for sure. The radiator is fine dont touch it, i think u like to make people think its an expensive and difficult exercise with listing some of that stuff, it sounds like u been repeating info u have heard and not actually done it yourself. give me a pm if u need any specific info to the topic starter i have done 2 single turbo conversions on different setups and they are great if u pick the correct turbo u dont have to choose a t88 or t51 if u go single at all, this is the point people dont seem to understand.
  10. nice work, looks neat, the intercooler pipes wont blow off ever if u have a couple of beads of weld on the end of the piping so it cant get past the clamps. I use the cheap shit narrow clamps on mine and never had an issue on 18-22psi
  11. thanks mate
  12. another question on these gtr bov's, do they have to be plumbed back in to the intake or will they work fine venting to atmo? i am using the rb26 in a different car so plumbing them back is a pain, and is one gtr bov good enough for a 400rwhp setup?
  13. how much are they worth roughly chuckie? i am keen if price is not too much.
  14. how did i know Mitchy would be all over this thread lol, the legnum bandwagon leader i like em myself, front is awesome, rear of stagea is wayyyy better lookin though. The leggy is ALOT smaller than a stagea, the leggy reminds me of a wrx wagon size, not really a full size wagon, closer to a hatchback size almost. Going from what ive seen with mitsubishi engines (evo, gto, etc) they are the most underrated strength engines in any imports. i know the gto guys with the 6g72 reckon a safe limit for stock engine is 650awhp lol. The legnum is a similiar engine setup by the looks of it so i could see it making some decent power without dramas (obviously not that much but as good as rb25 if not better).
  15. lol its my personal opinion, but i've always found more people like the s1 front over a s2 everytime i ask people (not just stagea owners)
  16. it will still work like a r33/34 gtr if u run a 32 tf case and box, its the pumps etc that preload the clutch packs unlike the 32 one which doesnt, allowing fuse pulling as a safe method. I'd be guessing but i'd say the 33/34 setup would retain some sort of one way valve to stop the fluid returning back to the pump when its off and therefore allowing quicker transition into 4wd when its needed, unlike the 32 which has to start fluid from the pump again and thats a delay pushing it through the lines. Dont qoute me on that bit its just the understanding i have of it.
  17. i'd get a s1 because they are cheaper and look alot better s2 fronts are shocking, definately a turn off in my book anyway. *gets ready for flaming* if your changing from auto to manual u can just use a rb25 gtst box and it will get rid of the tf case, and an engine conversion will say goodbye to the front diff and sump arrangment. Then all u need is to pull the cv joints out of the front axles and just leave the part that bolts into the hub to hold the wheel bearing in and its done. Oh and remove the atessa pumps above the rear diff if u want. i'd probably just get the rwd version if u had the choice between the two, but converting a 4wd to 2wd isnt a big drama at all.
  18. gotta agree on the hire car trailers being bloody deathtraps, they either have flat tyres, stuffed wheel bearings, too high to get car on, ramps too short, or u cant open the car doors once u get the car on it (dukes of hazard style needed to get out of car lol), they sway at anything over 90kmh and make a usual 40 min trip to the drags etc into a 1 hour + trip. I was towing around a 1730kg car though so that doesnt help I wish i had room at home to store a trailer, im gonna have to sort something out for the new track car im building.
  19. I have never heard of this either, havent had a 33 workshop manual to know. The stagea runs same 4wd as a 33/34 gtr, the pumps are the same and operate the same, the transfer case pressure on the clutches isnt as strong because of a slightly different design, but the basic operation is identical from what ive found anyway.
  20. yer its a sealed unit inside the spline section of the tf case,
  21. im about to start daily driving the stagea so i wouldnt mind some pics of stereo installs too, i would prefer something removal if i need to carry lots of gear in the back though, definately nuthin like yours Daniel, thats abit extreme
  22. lookin good, good to see some further progress did u get the accusump recently or had it from previous setups? how much is the entire setup worth and did u get it through unique autosports?? i was gonna order direct from the US but the dollar has gone to shit so not sure what to do now.
  23. nice work mate, u dont mess around at all, wish i had 4 people workin on mine at once lol, i just about got mine ready to, cant wait to get it out and daily drive it I just got exhuast, wastegate and slightly modify the cooler pipes and its ready to run. how come u packed up tonight? its only 8pm plenty of hours left in the day
  24. the car looks great tacker, love the colour and wheels combo too! What sort of teins are u running? im building a full track spec gtr at the moment and looking for a decent set of coilovers, something thats easily adjustable and not running circlip grooves lol, i dont mind about not streetable etc as it wont ever see the road. The car is a r32 and will be totally striped out with fuel cell, etc, ill post pics when i make some more progress.
  25. i have a bit of experience with different power levels in stageas, i've had a setup with stock power, 350rwhp, and 560rwhp and 600rwhp. The more power the more compromises unfortunately, my new setup is aiming for a max of 400rwhp, this will mean alot of factory parts can still be used, the clutch is nice to drive around with and reliability is still pretty good. I run a rb26 setup though so rb25s are abit different. 350rwhp was abit slow, but i did have that engine in a 1300kg car before so i noticed the weight difference more than anything. 560hp is great, except the laggy turbo, noisy heavy clutch, big cams, and stock gearboxes dont last one drag run lol (or the rear axles), so the dogbox upgrade was another pain in the arse for any daily driver duties, it definately was fun if some pesky commodores wanted a run off the lights though In rwd im sure around 350rwhp wouldnt have any trouble smokin the tyres at ease if thats all u want
