  4. I've not done GTR, but I have done both Baw Baw and Lake Mountain touring events and in my opinion it won't make any difference what tires you run. You won't be going fast enough to worry. I did all of mine on Pirelli street tyres and they were more than adequate. That said, how fast you go depends a lot on the pace car. You get a 'liberal' pace car and dry conditions then...
  5. So, I might be a little off topic. I built this when I was 15 and gave it to a mate to look after when I was 20 and just about to go travelling. That's 23 years ago and he's still got it. I "borrowed" it over the weekend and took some shots for the record. If you squint it could be real...and it's certainly a beast. 934 Turbo RSR.
  6. Matt, what is it a 740 or 750? You know your Beemers as you're spot on. It's a 96, 3.2 Evo and yes a factory 6 speed. Most of the SMG cars are now manual converted as the pumps die and they're $9k for a new one, and all for a transmission that doesn't work that well at best. I love the way they look! Most of my cars are what I ached for as a youngster but could just never own because of the $$. Ahh, nostalgia. Enjoying this thread,
  7. Some Euro-trash. Just put some 12.5mm spacers on the front of the BMW and lowered it around 1.5" all around. I think the rear could comes down a little more but overall I'm really happy with the stock-but-tougher look.
  8. I've owned 2 R32 GTRs. One was a peach and gave me no trouble at all. It was the second car I owned so I kinda knew the journey ahead and made good decisions re mods and maintenance. It was the best car I ever owned, and I sold it, to my lasting regret and only to see it come up for sale again with a haircut and dodgy fake stickers on it. It was only ever a fast road car and never saw the track. I still have my other 32R, which is heavily modified and that ownership experience has been a very expensive love hate thing. They are are very resource hungry car, and on the track they are heavy and powerful and everything gets stressed and will break unless you've sorted it. Oil management and brakes are your immediate drama on the track. Right now it sits in storage as I'm a little over it, but I love it too much to let it go and certainly I'd never sell it for the pittance I'd get today. Go buy a 996 GT3 for $100k. You'll do everything you want with just tyres, pads and oil forever and then sell it for $90k when you're done. With the GTR you'll but it for $20k, spend $30k fixing it, and sell it for $20k and spend a lot of time being let down by it. Just got the find the $100k in the first place If I had my time again I'd not buy a GTR. But perversely, I'm happy that I did...Work that out.
  9. 1:18 is fast. Saw JFK in his 33R do a 1:16 and that car was discernibly fast from the viewing platform. Fastest by miles on the day.
  10. I can tell you 18 x 9.5 + 22 with 265 35s rubbed on the front of my 32R. Rears were fine. Nitto crapola tyres. I bought them from a good guy (knew his stuff) who was running 18 x 10 +20 (not sure of tyre) and said they fit no worries on his 32R. There are so many variables. Tyres, ride height, camber, castor, and I reckon each car is slightly different too. +20 - +22 is the ideal offset and I would be very careful about letting someone else choose for you. 15 - 22 - 35 makes a heap of difference to fitment. Prepare for the disappoint... And here is what 18 x 9 +20 looks like (on my unreal car). Running 265 35.
  11. Thanks guys. Spoken with Scott and he's looking into it for me. Someone from the BMW world recommended Andrew from TrackArt too, though I thought he was a cage fabricator rather than exhaust... Anyhow, I'm sure I've got some good options now.
  12. Need someone decent. I want to cut open the rear muffler on my E36 M3 and do a well known modification to it to get some more nice noises from it. Basically, welding, cutting, fabrication. I just want it done with quality materials and neat tidy work. I've seen some horror stories (just poor workmanship) on some of the BMW forums so be good to get a recommendation of someone who does good work. The closer to Dandenong the better. I've put together a pdf of the process as pics are fun. Only step that is missing is packing it with SS wool. Thanks guys. BMW Zorst Mod.pdf
  13. I've been the the Baw Baw and Lake Mountain events doing the touring section and both were great (if a little slow....pesky burgundy Evo X). These are also run by Mountain Motorsports, When time permits I intend to do some competitive TR and frankly from what I've seen the cost and time commitment required by the larger events make them seem a long way off for me. I also find the idea of the larger events intimidating and would see these smaller events as a perfect way into the sport. A way to learn my craft and the scene without jumping too far into the deep. MMS guys are are good guys and the crowd inclusive so from my experience I'd recommend their events. I do heard they're fairly well subscribed these days which is great, but also a shame...I'll also be checking out the Poatina Hill Climb which seems to have a similar feel to the MMS events. My mate did the touring section of the GTR and said it was ace too. Hope this helps.
  14. This thing looks awesome. Reminds me of Speed Yellow GT3s and Turbos. Bitchin'.
  15. Trucking from interstate is 'only' $500 so maybe consider a wider audience?
  16. Well since you seem at peace with events, got any footage of the 'event'? Sorry, no rolling shell...
  17. Aw shite Ev, that's no good. You're a braver man than I sharing those photos on SAU. Good on you though. Hope the repairs are not too painful.
  18. As the owner of a tidy, roadworthy, responsibly driven '90 32R I'll be watching with interest...
  19. Post a link to your 32R build thread. That's sure to help build your profile. Was a while back but I remember being very impressed by your work
