  1. I'm a terrible sleeper. Should go to the doctor but it seems I'm happy enough to take medical advice from anonymous users on a car forum. Downloaded the app and will see how I go.
  2. Bugger me backwards Ev. Was there a single salvageable part from the engine? Hope to be doing Lake Mountain too..... Engine bay looking sweet. You're putting much love into the old girl.
  3. I have one of these but it had a small leak and will need re-sleeving. I'm floggin it here. Not sure you can PM with your post count, but let me know if you're interested in talking further. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300850126104?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  4. I've got one and I could not fault it in any way. When it was installed it was very 'bitey' (probably me just getting used to a twin) but I did get it adjusted (dunno what was done) and it was so much easier to use. No noises what so ever. Not heavy. Very user friendly. No driveline shudder under any circumstances. Have only launched in 2WD mode but it was a 2nd gear start from standstill. No dramas and was really easy to modulate. Ace clutch. Should be for the money.
  5. It's on death row. Cage will happen eventually......
  6. Said he was taking pics that he would send to me. Unsure if he's posting it on his FB page. It should be a neat install. All tucked away on the rear parcel shelf so the rear seat is unimpeded and it's all out of site.
  7. Lol the mods never stop! Ill check in with the boss on those dates and get back.
  8. Ev, when is Winton? Haven't been back since I spun a bearing........too far for the old GTR bus - long tow home if it all goes up in smoke.......maybe in the Porker....... Not considered PI either. Should get my ass into gear as I've got nothing booked. Baw Baw is on my birthday and I've got a posh dinner out and the kids taken care of Sunday morning so I won't get the necessary permit for that event so must sort something else out in lieu. Diff in GTR still needs doing, but the seat, harness bar, harness Trackart will be finished Monday next week so she's getting closer to race fit! Cheers.
  9. *cough* I have a 996 GT3 *cough* Um, they are expensive, there are cheaper ways of going fast, and you've got to be able to afford to crash it.......Gulp. On the other hand they will retain their value relatively well, be reliable and not cost a lot to go from road spec to tarmac trim. I could put the front half of the factory cage in, disable airbags, change pads, tyres, install fire extinguisher, intercom, nav system and away I go to my next event. I could drive to the event in full A/C too. As for the drive, the first time I drove one was when mine was in tarmac spec so harnesses only, full race dash, full cage, no interior, lethal clutch, low diff, lightened fly wheel and a virtually non silenced exhaust. What an experience. I bought it on that drive. Luckily my mate was selling it on behalf of someone else and I got a 2 hour drive in the hills for a test drive. They way it chases the red line, how smoothly it loves to rev, the noise it makes, and the overall 'good' feeling of the car are fairly compelling. It is a different drive. I personally have never experienced any of those rear engined 911 horror stories and found it to be a predicable and exploitable companion. It is slow in and fast out and yes the nose bobs around but none of that is bad, it's just what it is. As you probably know I have a 32 GTR too and I'm not sure what I'd rather drive which says a lot for the 20 year old Nissan. One thing to think aobut is the GTR will cost you a lot more than you think / will admit to the wife modifiying and making reliable for the same purpose, and you'll never get your money back on those $ spent. If you're in Vic and not a wally IRL I'd be happy to take anyone for a spin if you're considering buying one.
  10. Seems Chequered and Racepace are using Catrol Edge 10W60 for track work. I've got an oil change coming up and my car does mostly occassional street driving but will see the track from time to time. What's the latest thinking? Performance Lube are suggesting 10W40 Royal Purple, citing with group 4/5 synth oils 10W60 is thicker than it needs to be. I'm running a 310RWKW RB26 with extended sump and oil cooler. Where is recommended to buy the Catrol Edge 10W60 if it ends up being the go. Keep it simple for me guys. Thanks.
  11. Long time no race! Been doing some non competitive Tarmac Rally stuff but even with that it's one or two events a year only. Kids / money / time = blockers! Yeah, worst thing about owning a 911 is you become a 'Porsche guy'. Still love the GTR more.... I'll have to stay off boost in my local hood by the looks of things.
  12. Anyone seen one of these before? Needless to say the car does not smoke in the traditional sense (a la Mitsu Magna!). I'm thinking disgruntled neighbour, which hurts a little..... Still, 7 years of GTR ownership and this is the worst I've had.
  13. OP? You out there? What's your decision?
  14. Uh-oh, coilpack question and only done some limited searching so be gentle. I've got original coils in a box from 2 GTRs I've had so 12 all up. I'd like to know which ones are working properly and which not so I can just keep a tight group of working spares and chuck the dead ones out. I never bothered figuring this out when I replaced each set with Splitfires so need to do it now (spring cleaning my spares). So, where do you take them for testing and can anybody recommend a place specifically, as close to Dandenong as possible. Thanks.
  15. ^^^Looks nice. ^^Why not email the guy for more details as he suggested. That is if you're actually interested.
  16. Back on topic. In 2005 I bought a Canon 350D with a standard lens kit. i did so in preparation for a trip campervanning around the South Island of NZ. I took 3 months to learn the camera and practise my craft and my reward was pictures that far exceeded my expectations, having not done any real photography before. If I were the OP I'd be grabbing a Canon 650D (or something similar), possibly with an upgraded lens if you want to treat yourself, make the effor to learn how to get the most out of it and never loook back. I'd guess you can snag that for well within your budget. Assuming the 650D does today what the 350D did back in the day I reckon it will exceed your expectations. If you don't want a DSLR I can't advise on that. I hope this helps. p.s. my 350D is for sale!
