  1. OK, so it's not a vspec. The guy I sold it to sent me photos of it after he'd had it for a few months with a dodgy vpsec sticker on the back.........Might explain part of how we ended up here. I cannot vouch for the seller, or the car as it currently stands, but it was a terrific car when I owned it. Very well kept (I'd go as far as to say one owner before me condition) and defied it's age and klms in terms of how it presented and drove. and lol at the photos of it in my driveway in this thread OP, so long as I don't smell a rat I'm happy to assist you in getting to the bottom of what you've got, but see my original thread, add subtract what the interim owners have done to it and voila, you have your car.
  2. My my. Well at least it still looks good. Was a great car when I parted company with it.
  3. Need something decent for my wife's car. I've used the Car Kit Company with mixed results before, so looking for something better. Thanks guys.
  4. Whole thing required in perfect working order. Ideally Melbourne based. PM if you've got anything for me.
  5. Easy fix. Get a wheel repairer to spin them up. With the lip they are the perfect design for an easy fix for rash.
  6. So, jut thought I'd try this out with the trustly old Mazda. Farkin tight fit. Long doors on the coupe and if it's any wider than the Mazda it's going to be a squeeze. Length wise it's fine. Ramps I used forklift tyne extenders which were fine for the Mazda. Handling the heavy tyne extenders was a pain so lightness of ramp is important. There is a bit of mucking around getting the car lined up on the ramps too, so the less hassle in the overall operation the better. I'm fabricating some ramps out of some large alu channels we have at work. Bolting 2 together and machining them to the right angle and then blocking them up with hardwood to the right height at the container lip. Should be light, cheap (free) and effective. I'll post up the ramps when they're complete. I've installed an external powerpoint adjacent to the container and got some 'cable glands' so the cable passes safely through a 20mm hole I'll drill and there is no danger if it wearing and making the container live (it's on a safety switch anyhow). I can run the trickle charger off that. Question now is do I get a 40 footer and have space for 2? It's long drive down a dark tunnel to the end......I'll install a task light too so it's light in the back and you've got something to back into. I think backing it in is the best option. Be a week or 2 before that's all sorted out. Over and out.
  7. Harhar knew you'd know! Thanks Terry.
  8. May seem odd posting this here but believe me this forum is far more active and useful than many others....... So, I have my eye on an old E34 M5 but want it inspected by someone who is a specialist in BMWs, but more than that M cars, but more than that, old M cars, but more than that E34 M5s......Dun think they imported that many so might be hard to find..... Anyhow, Sydney is where the car is and lower north shore would be ideal. Thank you Datsun folk.
  9. Humidity we've covered and I think I'd rather leave the cover off. Something in me tells me it's better to let the car breathe a little. I'm locating the container near a power source and will leave the battery on trickle charge in the car for fast get aways (hopefully mine!). I actually never thought about someone lifting the whole container and taking it off so you make a very good point.....Dunno how you stop a side loader and an angle grinder.....Have to get a Doberman for the yard! I should look at a dehumidifer! About $500 from Bunnings by the looks of things. May as well carpet the container and get it climate controlled...and move into it.
  10. Harhar I think you're right! That said it'll be an inconvenience enough getting the car in and out and I CBF dealing with bricks'n'planks'shit, especialy in the dark and the wet. You're a more patient man that I. Plus I like things to be done right. I'm over 40 so I'm allowed to be a little fussy. I'll postup the final solution, so thanks to all for your contributions. Only last thought I had was the heat in these suckers in the summer. I'm guessing it'll be nice and toasty in there (60 - 70 degrees?). Any issues relating to the health of the car and the heat?
  11. Local fabricator will do these for a price. Needs a few more support bars in there for my liking. So back to Knox Storage's solution.. 4797_001.pdf
  12. http://www.stanfred.com.au/prodpics/resize_1366938992.jpg Found these. Not sure if long enough and also they're 25mm too tall and I'd have to cut off the ramp handle as I'd be driving over it in this application...... Then there are these but they are too light wieght. I guess I could work out how to support them http://media.supercheapauto.com.au/sca/images/285535.jpg
  13. Don't like the dirt idea but will check out Supercheap and how they could be modified to suit Looks rally good. Not too expensive, wide enough, strong enough, light, but I think the feet are designed for a much larger angle. Container deck is only 160mm off the ground. I'll do this but I don't want any outward sign there is a car in there and therefore want to ramps to be removable by hand. Also the fork ramps may not have the length needed to get the guts of the car over the hump Yeah, we have a fair bit of timber at work so 1 option is to laminate some progressively shorter lengths of timber (say 150 x 25mm pine) to make a ramp. I'll run a few designs I've come up with past the carpenters and see how they think it will hold up. Marine ply would be too heavey to do this with but would be ideal in terms of the height progression and being able to make the ramps 300mm wide.....
  14. Thanks Terry. Takata too small in height and length and will consider rice option! It's looking like I'll have to custom fabricate something out of SHS and chequerplate. Heavy!
  15. What does a 'moisture absorbant' look like and where to get it from? Like a large desicant pouch?
  16. This is how Knox Self Storage deal with it. Ramps are too short even for non lowered cars and are already heavy at about 700mm long.......
  17. OK, so I have a few shipping containers laying around at work and I'm running out of space at home to store cars, so thought I'd investigate slinging a car into a container. First, and most fundamental, hurlde is getting the car in there. The floor of the container is about 160mm above the ground and I need a pair of ramps to get the car in. Ideally they will be removable as I don't want there to be any outward signs of there being something of value in there, so therefore light enough to man handle. They also need to be a suitable length to ensure the car doesn't ground its self on the way in. I'm thinking 1.5 - 2.0m, but that's a guess. Easiest thing would be if someone has done this before and knows what works well. Any suggestions. Yes, I've searched google. I'll also ring the local car storage business to see how they handle things as they use containers too. Thanks.
  18. The Nismo mats seem black, or at least very dark. Looking for the original colour / look. I've confirmed with Nissan the OEM are no longer made. I'll figure it out from here.
  19. Posted elsewhere recently, but here she is again.
