Oh i do agree about the increases and the shortcomings. Kinda getting away from the actual "point" of the thread which was fixing the apparent "hoon epidemic" which is more so related to education/training/license as opposed to over use of roads and poor infrastructure planning It is laregly an overnight "epicdemic" simply because it wins votes, fills Gov't coffers and sells newspapers/armchairs. All of which are a result of larely nothing more than simple reactive nature of Vic Police/Gov't rather than being proactive. I raised an interesting point... How much money would it cost to educate/train people at the start? VS Paying for extra Police, Law introduction, TAC/Injuries, Payouts, Court/Jail costs at the end? Option 1 A RB26 conversion with a complete motor/piping/airbox/loom/labour is going to cost you 5-6k, and realistically you'd change the turbos before installing the motor so thats another $2500. Then FMIC, exhaust, fuel pump potentially coil packs... There goes another $2000. Then your clutch doesn't sound like it'll hold the power so factor that in as well. It'll be a 10k trip to do it properly. You'll have around 270-320rwkw and a car that'll still handle and brake like shit. 10k spent easily as brakes/suspension is not factored in here. Option 2 Sell and buy a GT-t Simply get a FMIC, ECU/exhaust/fuel pump and you'll probably find thats enough to keep you going for a while with 200rwkw or so whilst you learn to drive it. You might even pickup one with a few mods on it easily enough - Let someone else spend the money, you benefit. Once you are proficient upgrade brakes & suspension, if you have cash left over then change turbo (factory replacement lotmount)/injectors/AFM and end up with around 260-280rwkw. Another $5000 there as well. You'll have around 260-280rwkw, plenty of experience and most importantly - A car that'll brake and handle MUCH better, which is faster. Under 10k spent. Pretty easy to see why Option 2 is the far better choice. A RB26 isn't the be all and end all.

So you are basically only half way there in terms of supporting mods expenditure. Spend the $3500, you are going to waste on a turbokit you cannot make any use of, on the remaining supporting mods you've missed. Then you'll be ready for a turbo upgrade.

We do - The Dyno threads, and the FI Guide have many informative threads for the beginner. If new users read them once in a while, they would have more options than they could ever wish for. Anyway - that aside - to the OP I'm guessing the below basically summaries you. You have a relatively stock car and say a 600hp kit for $3500 and thought that reasonable, I'll buy it and put it on. Do you even have all the supporting mods like FMIC, Fuel Pump, ECU, Injectors, Clutch, Diff, Oil cooler, Radiator, Coil packs, AFMs, a FULL fluid service from motor, gearbox to diff ??? Well over $7000 without LABOUR! Then as you've stated you want to hit the circuit you also need to attend to brakes and suspension which in itself will be another $3000+ realistically. Only once you have done the above should you be thinking about getting more power out of the motor. The fact you only want to spend $3500 on a 600hp kit is a clear indication you've left out the supporting stuff, as if you had the supporting mods to hit the circuit reliably, you'd have no money left. A decent 600hp kit cost breakdown would be around this: 6boost Manifold - $1400 Turbo - $1200-$1800 Ex Gate - $550 Dump pipe - $300 Misc: Gaskets, Lines, Heat wrap (and or shield/beanie) etc - $500 So you are looking around $4000 with a $1200 turbo. Make it a GT3076 or similar and the cost closer to $4500 (not incl delivery). You can go cheaper and get a Kando kit, they are a reasonable piece of gear for the money with proven results now. Either way don't get a cheap stainless manifold, they are simply more a$$ ache than they are worth with cracking etc. Yes some don't crack, but far too many do. Meaning you'll be paying twice due to excessive labour to fix it all.

It is now at a point where it cannot be lowered without widespread changes simply because: 1. More people are on the roads driving each year 2. Cost of living is becoming higher, so there WILL be more shitboxes on the roads 3. Gov't spending on roads and safety is simply not enough 4. The amount of people using scooters/bikes will also increase, and without better education/training more will die 10 years time, we will be in a worse spot than we are now, laws will be tougher & impounds/defects higher than ever - yet the problem will be worse. The HKS Mushroom filters don't get called "Poisonous Mushrooms" without due cause... They tend to break up and send shit through the intake if you don't inspect them at each service to ensure they aren't stuffed. I've seen the inside of one, wasn't cool. Take this chance to either 1. Get a stock airox which will be better 2. Replace them with Apexi or similar, and build a proper CAI box. Both will offer far better reliability, and increased performance over rubbish exposed pods. Win-win really.

Certainly comes down to revenue as the main driver for it all. Hoon laws is political in that it gets votes and income generation at the same time. It also looks good for Police to have the stats on crushed/impounded cars. Gov't also won't stop Holden/Ford bring out cars that make 450-500hp from the factory as its income, and same with the aftermarket parts industry. It's income for business and then it's also income once again for the Vic Police who then go and fine people for the aftermarket modifications. It's all primarily money drive so realistically the top brass will never change their attitudes. I however disagree about your local track comment Bris. The attitude of youth today is such that if it isn't placed right in front of their eyes, they simply won't find it themselves. They need to be pushed in the right direction be it by choice or by mandatory requirement. (obviously a generalisation, but overall I feel its mostly true). It took a lot of convincing for a few people to come to the track for the SAU Nats, guys that otherwise wouldn't - however after that did - eyes were opened to the level of fun it actually was. Which i think was a really great outcome.

For the t-shirts probably looking at 1-2 colour designs at the most. Maybe a good photo of a car or engine bay perhaps for one. Want to limit the colours as we don't want to make them too expensive to produce and then they become too highly priced. That said if the design is awesome then it could potentially still work.

Overall though don't be surprised if it's still a bit lazy'laggy even after a tune. As scotty said a 100m cooler, is not really a smart choice regardless of price. Probably would've been better to sell and buy something more appropriate.
