  1. Jet engine whistle. Makes me bar up. Jez, did you get to asking about TS for the smaller frame turbo choices? Im looking around for some choices, considering BW wont be dishing out an EFR 7064 - 7670 anytime soon >.<
  2. I dont know.. Looks more like a white rectangle overlayed on a picture of an engine bay to me.
  3. You could try putting in a machined spacer plate between the plenum and head. Ive read of guys thinking this could counter-act some of the loss in midrange. Are you running e85? Going from 98 to e85, personally I think the difference in midrange wont be overly felt, as the fruit juice would bring up the midrange anyway. As for the throttle being doughy down low, there is a bit of a misconception about this.. You have to remember that with the bigger throttle body, each degree of movement compared to the stock item, is actually opening a larger area = more air for a given movement = more power due to more combustion = a very touchy throttle. Turbo size, etc, also plays a big part.
  4. Your best answers will be in the rb26 dyno results thread. It will give a good, clear indication of what the -5's are capable of. To use the search function properly.. Go in to the thread. In the top right hand of your screen, you'll see the search box. Type in "garret 5". Make sure the option for 'this forum' is selected. Ta da! You just searched for your answers Short answer... There isnt a single, cut to size answer for you.
  5. Makes changing spark plugs a breeze did you go with the stock size throttle body, or a bigger size? From what I understand, no real performance benefit with either fhe bigger TB.. Just a more touchy throttle feel, and the ability to flow more air, with less of a pressure drop, and a drop in temp. Going off the venturi effect anyway
  6. I can see where you're heading with that.. He doesn't actually say where it's wired up to. As far as we know, the instructions part of - "The fuel pump has been wired up right using 10g wire and a 30A relay as per instructions" - could be completely wrong. OP, did your tuner end up giving you feedback on your IDC/flow test results?
  7. I'm sure this has been mentioned else where, I just can't seem to think of it.. I'm on the "Stock fan works best" wagon, however I notice that the fan can visually appear to have a slight wobble. Is this just my eyes playing up, or is there a balancing issue? If so, how much more pronounced would this be at high RPM, in the case of an engine with the intended purpose of revving past 8.5K, etc. ?
  8. Dont forget about getting the toe checked (which they should do anyway) .. How much bigger is your rolling diameter over your previous wheels?
  9. Interesting.. I think you're onto something regarding the tyres breaking down/drying/going brittle over time. But in saying that, have you had the same torque level the entire time? How does the car compare to itself 1, 2, 4 years ago? I find the handling shocking at anything less than 36 psi. I usually run 40 psi.. Let us know how you go with the lower pressures
  10. Have you had the alignment looked at yet? Depending how your diff is setup (i believe kaaz 2 ways have a level of adjustment) it could be an indication of alignment being out.. On accel the diff is quite responsive and tightens quickly, so once both wheels are locked, they will follow the line of alignment.. Or in this case, misalignment. Unlikely, but a possibility. Good luck
  11. If you're only running a 235 tyre, why not just get a rim to fit? Stretched tyres arent a great thing anyway.. But to be helpful, you will most likely need to roll/flare the rear guards.. On most r33's, and a friend who had a r32 with 20's (lol.), some guard work was needed. To be fair though, most were only just "legal" in terms of ride height.
  12. If you have crazy stiff jap coil overs, then yes maybe. If you have decent quality shocks and springs, then it shouldnt be too bad... Its what i had to do at the same time of fitting alloy bushes, i also put in a rear strut brace, tied in the rear nicely.
  13. As stated above.. Good diff with some nice tyres. I was able to road test a friends set of ku36 a while back before my car went in for the build, and could put down 260rwkw without too much traction loss. Not-so-stiff suspension also goes a long way.. Even on 225 shitters, it would only break step if i launched like a knob. Driving style maybe?
  14. N1 pumps are somewhat notorious for failing I believe.. Funds being considered, is a Nitto oil pump an option for you? Or even a Tomei? So you're saying that first pump that failed, you didnt pull the motor down? Might've been left over pump gear debris that caused the more recent failure..
  15. Hey mate, nice looking set.. Looks great on your S14! Would you be willing to seperate tyres from rim? The rim size is spot on for what I'm looking for, however 225's are a bit skinny... ^_^
  16. I can vouch for the Greddy. On my previous setup I had one holding boost dead-straight for my HKS GTRS @ 20 psi. Can't remember when full boost was achieved, but it was scary responsive.. Boost would fluctuate between 19.8 - 20.7 psi when on full song. (According to boost gauge)
  17. I'll have to find the forum thread to reference properly, but IIRC, it had to do with the design and the way in which it holds pressure. Or rather, doesnt hold pressure.. Like a lot of things though, it had mixed reviews. Some swore by it, but the OP of that thread definitely wasnt happy. When I get to work I'll attempt to dig it up
  18. +1. I used to run a GTR BOV when I first got my gts-t. I now run a Turbosmart dual port plumbed back... Apparently good for 40psi.. Which is good because I'm looking at running quite a bit out of a EFR eventually. When they get sorted, anyway >.<
  19. The positioning of the wastegate pipe scares me. Also, contact the seller to find out the wall thickness... But in answer to your question, no I haven't used this 'exact' one.. The welds look neat enough though. EDIT: Just realised you said "as a low mount", in which case... As below.
  20. I heard that if you stagger the sizes (4 in total, each one smaller than the last) makes the best "zuuuuutututu" sound. Also helps free up about 150rwkw.
  21. 500+kW is a good effort! Plans for e85 at all? I have heard and read that the Forge Motorsports Dual Port Wastegate leaves quite a bit to be desired? Mostly off the suby forums and their experiences, nothing first hand..
  22. Still cant get my head around those low power figures..
  23. I just looked back through the thread and realised you and GTScoTT were talking about this very same thing. Oops. Here I thought my little search in google was good.... lol. Well, I find them impressive to a point... All things being considered. Not ground breaking, or a huge game changer, but still impressive.
  24. I think the real 'pro's' of the EFR series is more in transient response, considering the hype around their low-mass turbine wheels. Something which wouldn't really show on a dyno. Back in regards to the 7163, I can't remember if this has already been posted or not, but here is a link for a Perrin (read: Subaru engine) test showing a comparo on the 7163 with various other EFR and GT/GTX turbos. Great read and nice pretty pictures http://blog.perrinperformance.com/borg-warner-efr-7163-test-and-tune/ Considering these were all done on a Subaru (which have, IMHO, a poor engine), and with a [relatively] low boost pressure, I think these are great results for a turbo that is capable of 300+rwkw. I mean, seriously, 15psi at 3K, and full boost (in this case 25psi) before 3.5K ... That's awesome. I was also reading on the Honda s2K forums that the 7163 comes with an aluminium bearing housing; would this be for both weight/friction, or one or the other? As a street package on a stroked RB (2.8), with a big exhaust A/R in TS form (I think it is 1.01?), would be plenty responsive, while still being able to push 350+rwkw on E85. Add to that a nice shot of laughing gas, and you'll have one hell of a responsive 10 - 11 second car. (Or at least I hope) Can't wait to place my order for one of these... *drools* EDIT: Sorry guys, I can't seem to edit-out all the html type coding.. It wont save with the changes.. Any ideas? :S EDIT EDIT: Ok, figured it out. Anyone else having troubles with the posting of posts?
