Can anyone help me? i have a clicking noise on my r32 .. when ever i take off it clicks, change gears it clicks, turn a bend it clicks, gear down it clicks, even boost spools up quikly it will click under the load. the clicking sound is kinda like the sound if you got a pebble stuck in you tire and it clicks as it rolls over it.

i have no pebbles

i can also slightly feel it on the peddles. has anyone ever had this problem b4... if so please ease my pain..

thanks guys!

How about a description of WHAT causes it?

does it increase in frequency with speed (drivetrain) or rpm (engine)?

how does cornering affect it (suspension)

from your 'pebble on tyre', perhaps you should try rotating all the tyres individually (by hand?)...

EDIT: fixed spelling

I have had this problem (attributable to increase in speed) it occurs for me when going over 80km/h and then disappears about 100km/h

It was not engine related. Why the past tense well...

I did the following

Secured fron fog lamp leads

Secured inner guard after lower section removed

Got tyres pulled off rims to remove dirt balls the build up sometimes

A HOST of other things to ni avail

Then one day...it just went away...had me stumped, mechanic stumped

Fulcrum stumped...its the little gremlin, maybe I went fast enough that he finally f#cked off

i had a constant clicking sound

it was one of the vents in the aircon system not closing quite properly, and it'd keep trying forever

click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click

hmm. has it had a manuel conversion done?

ive had it where the dust cover on the back of the box had a dent in it. rubbed the tailshaft each revolution.

also check the tailshaft for ware. ie.centre bearing(midle bit) and the unis.

also stones can get behind the brake disk backing plate. similar sound

but i really need to know if it speeds up with the car/engine ctc

ive got the same thing. firstly it was a screw in my tyre. got some coilovers put in and then got the puncture fixed. noise is still there. only happens on certain types of road surfaces and whenever i turn right. it is also relative to speed too.

Its got nothing to do with engine... now that you mention CVs. my mums camrys CVs were about to go and the sound was similar. my clicking noise only comes when i take off, gear down and sometimes when i plank it and boost picks up quikly....it is definatly at my right rear wheel... it clicks alot going up my drive way because of the up hill.... i just changed the shocks but i had this problem b4 hand so its not them ... im so confused

Can you swap the drive shafts left-2-right? See if that causes the sound to come from the left. That would start pointing the finger at the CV joint (which is my guess, regardless).

I dont know if this helps but my car clicks whenever i turn the wheel cos my steering rack needs to be overhauled. The r32s steering racks bugger up pretty quick around the 100k mark. But id desnt sond like it comes from there all the time but.

Another thing is i have on my car is cos its a fourdoor the seat belt is pretty slack once its on(due to the sorter front door). The socket or whatever u want to call, it clicks everytime i move it clicks dunno why but it clicks, very annoying.

clearly im wasting my time :)

Ooooooooooooooo! What an angry frog :(

By the looks of this thread you haven't checked back in since you started it but if it makes you feel any better i to have an R32 with the exact same click noise from the right hand wheel as well!

I'm a mechanic and have been meaning to have a crack at tarcking this gremlin down but haven't had enough time to even start the car let alone fix things for months. I also have access to a skyline Guru so i might even ask him if he has struck it before and will try to keep everyone informed

On mine = when stationary engage the clutch for a brisk take off and straight away as if with the torsion applied to the rear a very quick "click, click" and also occasionally after a stong acceleration with a sudden off throttle, same thing.

Once i held the hand brake on and tried it = still there = rules that out

Possibly a CV but thats an awful big call when there are so many other things You'd check prior and without disassembling you car! also when ever i've had CV's clicking it does it all the time in many driving conditions.

I think a pair of chassis ears will be the go.

But my first port of call would be to really clean up the rear brake pads and apply brake grease to any contact surfaces and make sure they hve the shims they're supposed to!

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
