i didnt think they were legal but reading the new motor magazine states that they are, definatley gonna find out for sure since i have them and wanna know 100%... mine a so secure feels so safe, i guess if they rattle then they would be defected for but secure ones i cant see whats wrong

i cant see why the flush mounted ones would be additional hazard to pedestrians... maybe the ones with the wire over the front or the ones that stick up... maybe try checking in your state... like everything else the laws owuld vary from state to state... just ring you local rta they will tell you...

I was in that position with a Bluebird that had a much modified rad support panel (foreigh R32 rad and hooge IC) . The answer was to fit a plunger (or as suggested to me dog cock !) style catch from a Datsun 1600 . It works well but the fabrication to fit it to the bonnet is involved and may damage its paintwork .

Cheers A .

They are Legal in Canada :P

and for the ones that rattle.... they were probably cheep ones... get them from a good Canadian or Japanese manufacturer :P

I thought they were illegal for pedestrian safety too.

Anywya, for pins that rattle they aren't tight enough. Either crank the pins down or add to the support between the bonnet and the chasis

I have the larger ones on mine, with a latch, illegal in the ACT, wouldn't mind swapping them for the smaller ones. or putting blanks on the bonnet, as it looks bad atm with holes in the bonnet :O, anyone know if thats legal?

Can't comment on the legality of "bonnet pins" however i would see a car manufactures badge that protrudes the bonnet to be more of a pedestrian risk then a bonnet pin, but this is common sence therefore, it's probably the case that the pins are illegal in NSW. If they are, i'd just go flush mounted ones like someone already sujested.

I think it depends on the type of bonnet pin some cars come with them standard one that springs to mind are the old gt falcons which had flush fitting bonnet pins no protrusion above bonnet line so id say pins that protude above the bonnet line would become a problem for pedestrians i.e cause more damage to them .So if fitting bonnet pins try for something flush mounting

Cheers Peter

bonnets are meant to crumple when you hit a pedestrian or crash, this makes it safer for you and the pedestrian. if the bonnet doesnt crumple it can go straight through your windscreen and take your head off. bonnet pins would probably be illegal because they'd prevent the bonnet crumpling properly.

This was argument a cop had with me regarding lifting the back of the bonnet up two inches for enhanced cooling away from the rear internal clips, but I cant see how pins would be a problem as they would retain the bonnet to the frame better.

The pedestrian damage issue would be the main reason, if in fact it is illegal.

Then again if it's a :-

Skyline = Illegal

Falcodore = Illegal

EuroWeapon =Legal :(

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
