Car thefts are appaling especially when they happen to someone you know. Hopefully your mate has some luck locating the culprits or the car.

All the guys who have posted about him having a GTR and not affording insurance, re-read the original post. He didnt have it because of his age. This to me would say he is on his P's and no one would legally insure him. Insurance or not though, this sucks big time. :)

sorry to hear that the GTR was stolen .. unfortunately, they're desirable cars and worth a bit of coin, so people are always going to try and take them.

In my mind, if you cannot afford the insurance, you can't afford the car. If nobody will insure you, then wait till someone will.

This guy obviously didn't want to wait, and paid the ultimate price. He's probably sort of well off anyway, if the car was under any sort of finance, it would of needed to be fully insured.

how much is insurance on say an R32 GTR for a P plater, 3rd party to cover stolen?

it coucldnt be any more then $1000 per year, if it is around that then WTF are people doing with these cars? no doubt they play to spend that much on mods?

well as was mentioned above 3rd party fire and theft will only pay out $5K minus excess. comprehensive insurance for a p plater with a 32 GTR in a nice area in sydney will be around the $5K per year mark.

if the car was under any sort of finance, it would of needed to be fully insured.

Yeah but he might've taken out a personal loan to buy the car. That doesn't require insurance.

I agree, I wouldnt own a GTR without insurance but didnt want this turning into a thread about people not affording insurance on a GTR.

This is the third time in recent months that I've read such a tragic story.

While I really feel for anyone who loses their loved car I cannot but reemphasise:

GET F#$#%^G INSURANCE !!!!

If you can't afford the insurance - you shouldn't have the car !!!!

Sorry to be blunt - but really..... how many more times will we hear this story.

Anyhow - Good luck with the recovery (I really mean that)

idealy you should not need insurance.

but it seems there are too many c**ts here who like to steal these cars.

insurance for my age, 22 on a gtr is up around the 6000-7000 mark for a year..

its crazy i know i'd sure love to spent that 7000 on many other things

anyway best of luck finding the car..

p.s. where is griffith??

Damn.. that sucks big-time :D

I've noticed that all of the ones stolen recently have been un-insured. Is that just bad luck, or are there really that many people out there without full comp insurance??

I sure as hell wouldnt drive a car without insurance that is as powerful as skylines are for one, but are also as attractive to theives as a bleeding bull is to piranhas!! :

Anyway, thats hardly the point. Good luck to your mate, I hope he finds the guy(s) and rips their bloody arms off!!!

Ok the car was found lucky for ya mate NOW HE MIGHT GET INSURANCE.As i posted on another forum age has got jack all to do with it,i'm a young P plater with a modded 33GTR and i have no hassles paying the $4000 yr insurance bill, its a small price to pay for driving such a nice car.

Car theft is a part of life and it aint going to change. Im sick of reading all the sob stories on here about people with GTR's especially getting stolen and hardly anyone having any insurance.

NO INSURANCE = NO SYMPATHY

Man that is cold Bleach1.

I didnt even have time after the car getting into the country to get

my GTR insured before it was broken into twice and stolen on the second

time, although recovered plus one blown engine.

Dude how could u not have time?? you'd have the engine, vin no surely and have it registered before driving it anywhere, u do know all it takes is a phonecall and you're covered from the second you set the policy up??

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.
    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
