I am in the market for a new EBC.

OK – what’s the BEST Electronic Boost Controller?

I am in the market for a new Electronic Boost Controller (EBC) after the Apexi (series 1) died. I am looking towards the:

1. GReddy Profec e-01

2. Turbosmart EBC ‘E-Boost’ type 2, as I’ve herd good things about them. Don’t like the look though (not that important!)

3. Apexi EBC type 2 (type 1 that has just died!) Type 2, love the look, but side by side tests seem to be weak compared to the ‘Turbosmart’ type 2!

I am favouring the GReddy EBC, then the Turbosmart E-Boost Type 2, then the Apexi type 2. I prefer the Apexi, type 2, as I like the looks and readouts (yes, I guess I am vain) but I would probably favour the GReddy Type 2 at this stage because of the hassles of the Apexi Type 2.

What do you recommend???

:rolleyes::D

Hey, how yah doin` ?

This topic has been covered by a few people here but I have to say not nearly enough. There is no doubt almost everybody has an EBC yet not everybody knows how to set them up.

I use the Profec spec 11 but I would suggest any EBC would do the job.The trick is to figure out what your trying to acomplish with it.If you have a small combination like standard set up then you may not need something as complicated as the E-boost.

Yes it is true it can calculate boost for each gear but do you have enough power where you have to worry about the power you make in each gear? Most of us would be better off with something a little less complicated and more importantly, cheaper.Which brings me to my point.

Tuning it yourself will bring you much more pleasure than taking it to a workshop who may not do as good a job simply because they may not have the time or know the characteristics of your car.Yes it will take time, but; road tuning is the only way to get it right.

Perhaps a tutorial might be in order.

i <3 my greddy e-01, great boost controler and if you are keen enough you can rig it to do other things as well.

i run my widebands output into the e01 main unit to not only display afr, but also allow me to log them vs rpm and boost, great for when im tweaking the car.

also running the wideband into the boost controler allows you to set a boost cut should the afr's go stupid lean, while it wont go back past the base boost it may keep the motor together long enough for you to notice.

the auto mapping on the greddy can be a bit iffy at times, when its first setup it works fantasticly but overtime for some reason it seems to 'drift' and loose its calibration, however the manual mode is nothing to be messed with; once its set up properly on manual it will hold boost like no other.

i just got an eboost 2 a week ago...i knew all the basics function...but sat down with my mechanic for 30mins and learnt all the advanced info! i seriously reccomend the eboost 2...

GReddy PRofec B-Spec II, installed on Tuesday, a little complicated when trying to adjust boost using percentages but its a great little unit. A lot cheaper and more discrete than what your after though....

Do you have a Power FC? Have you considered the PFC Boost Adaptor Kit?

Im very happy with my Blitz duel sbc

As am i.

No unnecessary bells and whistles, just a good simple controller that does the job well. My only gripe is that my version only has one overall gain setting but this was changed to have adjustable gain for each setting in the later models.

Do you have a Power FC? Have you considered the PFC Boost Adaptor Kit?

^^Whats this?^^

I've got a pfc, i was thinking of getting a AVC R. Do they work with each other, like display/edit settings through each other?

also on my pfc commander i can't get a reading for the boost, all the other monitering functions work, anyone know whats going on?

(for a r32 gtr btw)

the powerfc boost control kit is a wiring loom, map sensor and avcr solenoid. you set boost on the hand controller under SETTING,BOOST and thats all you need to do.

you would be silly to buy the avcr if you have the powerfc already as the powerfc boost kit is half the price and gives the same functionality other than gear judge

if you have the AVCR its seperate standalone to the powerfc and they have nothing to do with each other. with the powerfc boost kit the hand controller shows boost pressure under MONITOR also.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
