Hey guys...

Long story short...

Its time for a wheel alingment before i scrub more rubber off my rear tyres after fitting a new set of springs and shocks. I have had many wheel alignments done before but its costlly and i have access to a brand spanking new wireless wheel alignment machine next saturday.

However this brand new fang dangled machine only has Holden motor vehicles programed into its data base. Probablly because its based in the workshop of a major Holden dealership in Brisbane. Anyways i need the numbers for an R33 GTS-T Skyline asap.

Spec on my car is lowered 1.5 inch's. I dont think anything else has a bearing on the numbers. So if you do wheel alignments for a living i would like to hear from you. If you have access to the standard numbers (settings) I would also like to hear from you. Its just i have a guy to operate the machine and he wants the standard numbers to punch into it so it can do its bit. As in toe in and so forth those who have the figures i am looking for know what im talking about.

Thanks Col

You have lowered the car, so the standard caster and camber settings are meaningless. If you haven't fitted adjustable bushes, you can't adjust them anyway. Actually you can adjust the rear camber 0.25 degree with the standard adjusters, but considering how much you have lowered it, that won't help much. From the R33GTST Whiteline and Bilstein Group Buy thread following are my recommended settings

Front

Caster +7.0 degrees or more

Camber -1.0 degrees

Toe Zero each side

Rear

Camber -0.5 degrees

Toe -2mm each side

Hope that is of some help

 cheers ;)

Thanks Garry

I just really need the tyres to stop scrubbing side ways down the road as my rear guards are always filled with rubber from just 100km drive...

Ill write em down... Try it on saturday...

Also i purchased a bush kit from whiteline pn: KCA347 but have been told they are useless and difficult to setup...

So i really just the wheels straightened to stop off centre scrubbing...

Thanks again

The KCA347 is a rear camber adjustable bush kit, very usefull. Whoever told you they were useless is probably not using/installing them correctly. Just follow the instructions.

:D cheers :D

There was no instructions....

I thought my rubber was wearing from just sitting on the inside of the tyre but i have founds out it is not the camber its that the wheels are not straight...

As is they are out of wack in terms of toe in/out...

So i like the camber but i dont like the chewing of my rubber...

If you want good tyre wear then get SK alignment settings as above.

If you want better handing, then go a bit more aggressive on the camber...

It's a sliding scale between tyre wear and handling....

Eitherway, go get an alignment ...

when getting an alignment is there any danger? eg them fudging the hicas or anything??? coz i want an alignment done soon but im worried the local tyre power shop might screw it. plus ive seen them do an alignment... whip out the old hammer and give it afew wacks till its right.

I'm trying to find Sks settings for a standard R33..GTST

I'm going to get a wheel alignment soonish so was hoping to get all the settings to give them for 95% street used car running stock gear.. I looked through the group buy thread but couldnt see them listed in a clear cut manner. Should there be a FAQ or tutorial.

ie.

Front

Toe

Caster

Camber

Rear

Toe

Camber

+ any other settigns needed??

Thanks

Umm, the same settings should be fine for an r33 gtst, personally I would go only -1mm toe on the rear but Gary knows what he is talking about :ban:

There is one trick I have found with wheel alignment shops.....make sure they follow your supplied settings (ie get a print out from the laser aligner). If you leave them on their own they give the tyres toe in to reduce the impact of the camber on tyre wear.....which is fine if tyre wear is your only issue - but if you want it to turn in properly and be stable at the rear follow the settings above instead

In my r32 gtst i run

Front

Camber 1.5 neg each side

Castor is about 6.5 each side (can i impove this? i think its pretty much maxed out)

Toe 1mm out each side

Rear

Camber 1.5 neg each side

Toe Zero each side

What do you guys think about this? Could it be improved?

Cheers guys

does anyone know a place in sydney that is good for a wheel alignment for skylines? trustworthy l mean, also mechanical work too l suppose.

Heasmans ,Sydenham

East Coast, Kirrawee

StGeorge Steering, Punchbowl

:P Cheers :(

hey,

i might have similar problem, just got the shocks and springs fitted today. but they didnt have enough time to align it. so will have to go tomororw morning,...but whats really bugging me is that...the height from centre of hub to top of guard are different on all four corners?.....is this what a wheel alignment should fix?

or should i be going back to the suspension place and ask wth happened?....

RHS front is 345mm but LHS front is 330mm

RHS Rear is 360mm but LHS Rear is 350mm

and its scrubing sometimes when going over a bump ont he lleft front, sounds similar to you Col-GtsX

is your height the like that too?

SK

With the -2mm of Toe on the back, does that mean the wheels are pointing outwards?

What effect does this have on the tyre were?

What effect does it have on the handling?

Thanks.

Alignment being done now, I just want to get the idea straight in my head.

    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
    • -10 is plenty for running to an oil cooler. When you look at oil feeds, like power steering feeds, they're much smaller, and then just a larger hose size to move volume in less pressure. No need for -12. Even on the race cars, like Duncans, and endurance cars, most of them are all running -10 and everything works perfectly fine, temps are under control, and there's no restrictions.
    • Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
    • More so GReddy oil relocation kits, sandwich plates, etc. all use 10AN fittings. And same, I've only used 10AN and my car sees track work (circuit, doing laps, not 10 sec squirt business).
