I've been looking at insurance in the last week and have some things to add..

Shannons were happy to insure my R33 GTS-T, however the guy flat out said they are not competative in that segment, and quietly suggested I try Torque or Unique. When I mentioned JustCars he said stay away, they have hidden excess's. Not sure what he meant by that, but looking at Justcars policy under the EXCESS heading they list "additional". Also, you dont get to choose your repairer, you can get a quote from them but Justcar will also ask you to take it to one of their nominated repairers for a quote, and cheapest quote wins... You also don't get a free windscreen replacement, you pay your excess and they will leave your rating alone.

For all that, Justcar would cost me $1,188 and $1,150 excess. Payments can only be yearly. 3 year guarantee on repairs./

Famous Classic Car quoted me $1,100 and $1,000 excess. That includes my choice of repairer, one free windscreen per year, agreed or market value, personal items (limits apply), hire car after theft.

So far it seems that Famous offer a better deal and at slightly cheaper rates, and they let you pay monthy, six monthly or yearly. The only thing i couldnt see in their policy was how long they guarantee the repairs for. I'll be ringing them about that.

Mike

ps. i'm 34 and currently rating 2.

Expect to pay $2000 - $3000 per year.

no chance mate. assuming a 21yo, in sydney, with 20%NCB you will be paying anywhere from $3500 to nearly $5000 per annum. not a chance a 21yo could insure an R32GTR in sydney for $2K. if so please tell me where and I'll insure mine with them too.

Fair enuf, I took a stab based on scaling up some what it cost for a modified GTST, but i didn't look at the location. I remember Sydney being something like 20% more than Melb.

I rang Shannons and they wouldnt insure my car ( 97 Skyline GTR ). I rang every insurance company that i could think of and they would insure it either because it was an import or a twin turbo. Then i rang suncorp and guess what rating 1 for $1400. I couldnt beleive the specialist companies wouldnt touch me.

I can only speak for Victoria but Shannons have been looking after most of the GTCC Members for the last year or so.......

GTCC = ???

im 19 and currently looking to buy a 32 gts-t (my first car *yay*), i have been quoted from just cars $2022 full comp, no accident history blah blah bla. im under the impression this isnt to bad considerring when i was 18 it was like $3000 a yr, but there is still a $1100 - $1800 excess deppending on mods

i havent really tried to get quotes from Shannons or famous or neone else because thy require u to prvide a chasis no. and so on, n since i havennt got the car yet i cant really give them a chasis no.

newayz so i jst wanted to kno how much it would b wit Shannons or famous or suncorp or neone else u guys can think of.

aslo if being an actual member of SAU Vic means u have a better chance of being insured wit Shannons??? and wat else can one do in order of having a better chance with the insurance companies such as shannons?

(Torque or Unique - never heard of em)

neways thats about all for now lol

Im 18 and Just Car are the only company that would ensure my R32 GTS-T. I have a premium of $2100 with some slight mods. inc fmic, air intake, coilovers, exhaust, gtr kit (live in brisbane). I think i got a very good price.

Expect to pay $2000 - $3000 per year.

There is actually a very big chance as i just turned 18 yesterday and rang Just Cars for insurance on a R32 GTR 1994 that im getting next week and they quoted me only $3756 but $2000 excess with 30% NCB, when i was 17 it would of been $4300 with 20% NCB.. so i believe that he pays 2k for it, plus im in sydney aswell Ahhhhh i'm soooo excited!!!!!!! :( B)

hey everyone, i have a moded R32 GTR, and i just got comp insurance from justcars with, exhaust, cage, turbo suspension etc for $1300pa. Excess for an accident is $2100 & if stolen, $1800.

im pretty happy since a year ago it was $2900!!

im 23 rating 2.

cheers

I went through JustCars cause I had my old car insured through them. If I remember correctly it was around $910 for full comprehensive for my 32 GTST with a number of mods. Intake, Ex, FMIC, boost controller, 18" mags, lowered, etc.

Also got a great agreed value for the car. Tip for people (since I know people in the insurance business) - If you ask for an agreed value (or they tell you what is will be insured for) tell them that you're aware most insurance places offer +5% over market value if the vehicle is in good condition. I told the girl that over the phone, and also offered to have the vehicle inspected. The original $14,000 value was upped to $16,000 after she "talked to support". They also insured my 18" wheels, which I never thought they did at JustCars, nice  I think the excess is around $1100, just because there is a non-removeable excess on the car of $700 or something.

Hi guys,

don't forget that Famous insurance is an off shore insurance company that are not bound by Australian insure laws. Plus they don't cover your car if you park it outside your house. Very dodgy.

20 years of age

$1,400 per year, inclused for zorst, pod bov, shokies, lowered, and they don't care what else i do to it, car insured for $25,000

Just Car Insurance in WA seems one of the cheapest

just wondering if they charge diiferent amounts in diferent states

Hi,

I'm buying a R33 soon and i'm looking at getting comprehensive insurance on it. but most sites i go to does not have skylines listed so i'm assuming they don't insure these. can anyone point me in the right direction, and an insurer who's affordable. there was one company which qouted me $5000 :).

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
