I Never Have Problems With Cops (regarding My Car)?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just wondering, ive never had any problems with cops at all with both my old 33gts and my current 32gtr.. Is it coz im just lucky or is it coz cops in the CBD area have better things to do than pull cars over and create a traffic jam? Cops dont even give me a 2nd glance. Thats why i found it a bit strange that everyone is usually saying how their modified cars always get canaries and get harassed by the popo. Anyone else who stays in the CBD realise this?

depends on what time of the day you drive around... drive during the busy times, then the fuzz wont bat an eyelid, drive around after 9pm and you fcukin knicked

apparently "hoon" status doesnt kick in untill they've got nothing better to do.... idiots

thing is im a bit of a night person (also the reason why im posting on SAU at this hour haha) and i always go out to get a drink or 2 wit some mates at this time. To make matters worse i stay 100m from a police station. hahah its common that when i pull up to the street where my house is that cops from said station just drive past me. maybe its coz im asian and they think im just some international student (i stay extremely close to melbourne uni). ive had a couple of mates who are international and when they get pulled over they just show their translated international license and the cops just let them off coz they cant do much like demerit points etc. true? =P

Well, I think you have been lucky. I was heading down Warrigal Rd (at the entrance to chaddy shopping center) - At the lights on the other side, there was a cop car. But here is the strange thing. The fool in the commodore next to us - had his passengers carrying lighted candles, he was changing lanes without indicators and he even ran the red light right in front of the cops. But as soon as the lights turned green, the cops gave us a long hard look. (this was the same night that the cops were following me down stephensons rd)

Maybe they were looking to see if I was gonna thrash it off the lights? Maybe they have never seen a sexier car like the skyline before

But there are 3 things that I experienced once I purchased the car back in Feb.

1) Cops have their eyes on it when it goes past

2) Idiots in lasers and barinas try to race me

3) Women keep eyeing it.

Its only a matter of time before I experience the 4th - and that is being stopped for a random check.

from what I've heard and experienced, you will get pulled over depending on how your drive, how your car looks, and where you happen to be driving. As you said, maybe cops in the CBD area have better things to do.. or maybe there are so many skylines and other modified cars around the CBD that seeing one is nothing new?

Never had any problems either. I've had a patrol car follow me off from a set of lights. There is no way they could tell I am as old as I am - I simply behaved myself (I knew they were there).

I'm convinced that all the complaints about "I wasn't doing anything" are a figment of the poster's imagination - the police don't nab you simply for the fun of it, you must have been doing something to attract their attention.

so true

i did a you turn and got pulled over for a random cheack on neapen hwy brighton??? was i being a hoon???No, first time to in my new car.

look out for a black vz ss always thier.

blind_elk what you got to say about that?

OK, I'm not sure what sort of activities are good for attracting police. Apparently accelerating normally up to the speed limit attracts cops.

Oh and my most recent activity was fully hanging it sideways out of a local side street onto an on-coming TMU car. Right......... :D

All I did was turn out of my local street to which a TMU car was heading towards me. As soon as he saw my attractive activity of simply turning my vehicle he did a swift U-turn in front of 3 cars with no signals or disco lights to come after me. When he caught up to me he didn't even bother with the "RANDOM" license check, just got straight to the point, "Your car looks a bit low."

This post isn't a whinge because I knowingly drove an unrwc vehicle but I don't like it when others assume we do this and that, your a hoon that's why the cops came after you, oh I'm so sensible bs. I'm sorry but this is the real world, police don't leave you alone because you're driving normally, if they see something that can add to their quota (which apparently doesnt exist ) they will come after it. Quit living in your I'm so sensible that cops don't trouble me and everyone else is a hoon dreamworld.

Sorry but I got a bit offended.

I got pulled over for the first time ever in Brighton about 2 weeks ago by a divvy van. Was driving along New Street and he was waiting to pull out of one of the roads on the left. Pulled me over and breathilsed me about 500 metres up the road.

He was pleasant enough but was driving an ML which had caught his eye. Checked my licence and explained about the breathliser before sending me on my way.

He spoke to me like a human, and I did the same to him.

closer to the CBD i feel safe from police apart from chapel st and its surrounds.

I never ever got pulled over in my R33 for the whole year I had it, on my Ps, big wheels, loud etc. NEVER.

the FIRST time, i decided to take it to chapel, on a fairly normal (pre cop block off days) night, i was leaving chapel right near princess hwy and the cop chased me down and just defected me for tyres.

I went through many RBT stations and I was always passed through.

My theory is, if you have a nice clean sticker free car that isnt lowered excessively, they just let it go.

Mind you, i lived in areas prone to cops pulling over ppl for nothing and I used to drive all the time.

I never get hassled.. not even in the uberloud 180.. haven't been pulled over for like.. 3 years or something.

Anyway be warned, it might be a case of 'speaking too soon'.. I think it's that time of the year again.. Roadworthy time!! woo!

Saw them doing it this morning on the Tullamarine.. luckily they were already busy.. and it's getting close to the end of the financial year after all..

I suspect you actually did a U-turn and got pulled over for a random check on Nepean hwy. And the black vz is always there.

When you learn to spell, you'll carry more cred with me.

I don't think that you necessarily have to be doing something to be pulled over. I was 100% driving like a nanna on my way home from the girlfriends place and was pulled over. It is possible he had seen me before but I usually drive quite well so I can’t see the being any issues. In the majority of cases there is no problem, I drive past many police and they don’t blink but I think TMU are more likely to pull a car like mine over. It was Pettett after all. He wasn’t rude or unreasonable but I maintain I was doing nothing wrong. Wasn’t very “random” :woot:

    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
