i asked just car about only diving on weekends, They said dosent matter weahter you dirve 1km or 1000 per week- same deal

Funny. Sometimes, it's who you know. I saw a friend at the WTAC Just Car desk. He asked me how often the car would be driven. He said that Just Car would insure my 'Line for 25% more Sum Insured and to pay 15% less Premium than a previous over-the-phone quote.

Hey all,

Just about to buy my first Skyline (yipee an R34 GTT) but having serious headaches trying to find insurance. It really seems as though the driver has little to do with the availability of insurance! So far I have tried

RAC/HBF/AAMI: No cover for imports.

Shannons: No cover if not garaged (I have a gated carport).

Suncorp: Don't have 99 R34 GTT listed so can't insure. They list the 99 GT and GT-R, and 98 GTT, though.

Just Cars: They want $1582 p/a! This was on-line, thinking of calling up to see what they can do. $22K agreed, $450 excess.

Edit:

SGIO(NRMA): $1008 to $1574 dep on market ($7K) vs agreed value (max $10K) and $550 vs $300 excess.

I'm 31 with no driving or insurance record. Seems crazy to me. Any advice appreciated!

Terry, when it comes to insurance... It doesn't matter who you know... it's how you word it!!!

^^^ Aah, well they certainly took note of the fact that my car was parked down in front of Iron Chef's tent if they'd craned their necks a l'il.

...and they did :)

I understand what you're saying though Lachlan.

Qs like, # of times it's driven, etc, etc

exactly right Terry!!!

I think it also helps if you have a broker as well.

I recently got a really good quote from lumleys, less than half what I'm paying atm. But I discovered in there pds illegal or non certified modifications will void insurance claims. Anyone know anything more about this?

Cheers,

Anthony

Section Four - General exclusions

(When we will not pay a claim)

"Unsafe vehicle

your vehicle being used in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition and such

condition caused or contributed to the loss. This does not apply where you

could not have reasonably detected the unsafe or unroadworthy condition."

Undisclosed and illegal modifications

your vehicle if it has any:

• modification which you have not told us about; and we would not

have agreed to cover your vehicle if the modification had been

disclosed to us;

• modification which is not permitted by law in the State or Territory in

which your vehicle is registered;

• modification which would prevent your vehicle from being

legally registered in the State of Territory in which you reside, unless

your vehicle is unregistered, you have provided full details of the

modification to us, and we have agreed to cover your vehicle.

Basically this in my opinion is in there to keep them safe. This gives them the power to use judgement to not pay claim to someone who clearly is a f**k and doesn't deserve it or to pay someone who has perhaps just slipped up you know? Fair play policy applies kind of thing. If they didn't payout anyone that had a single illegal mod whether the owner realised it or not they would instantly destroy their rep and lose market share.

JUST when you think you've found a loop-hole, you go and discover they've already got that angle covered off... sneaky bastards!

" The use, misuse, or existence of nuclear weapons or the

use, misuse, escape or existence of nuclear fuel, waste or

materials or ionising radiation or contamination from such

fuels, waste or materials, or the combustion, detonation,

fission and/or fusion of nuclear fuel or nuclear materials"

On a serious note, i too have recently got a LSV quote and it's about half price of Shannons, was VERY VERY surprised. Agreed value not quite as much, but if it seems they hang onto that value longer then i'll probably do better than with Shannons dropping it quite quickly from experience with prev cars.

I rang just then to query the 'modifications' exclusion and it sounds to me more like they would do the old "if it didn't contribute to the accident/incident, we don't care". Yes, the PDS specifically states...

But i believe that is similar to Just Cars, although they just say, unlimited legal mods, JC is obviously covering claims where say someone has an accident but has an atmo BOV. It sounds like there is a common sense type test applied in the assessing of the claim.

I'm going to double check again with the guy who has been quoting me for the car, but that's what i've got so far from the guys on the phone

It's a tough one...

Did you get any further with this?

as for the salvage thing, they said if it's written off i can buy it back, how is that different to salvage?

I just read the PDS and as far as I can tell it depends on whether the car was stolen or not, totally written off or not and if the car is 25 years or older. Depending on those you may either automatically get salvage rights (I think in the case of the older car because parts are rarer to get and so forth (hard for you to find, hard for them to sell)) If the car for example is written off they might choose to pay you out and recover some of the losses through selling what they can salvage. In the scenario that you do not automatically get salvage rights they allow you the first option to PURCHASE it off them for salvage. So you get to decide before anyone else if you want to buy it for salvage purposes.

That Lumley clause is really just putting into words what can and can't happen with regard to declining a claim for a modified vehicle, should the claim make it to the ombudsman.

Basically an insurance company can only decline a claim if:

1. The modification/accessory/alteration contributed to the loss; and

2. They would have declined to offer insurance if the vehicle alteration was disclosed.

The onus is on the insurance company to provide evidence on both of these. Keep in mind the first point can include a stereo or wheels making a car more attractive to a thief or target of being vandalised.

Source: I used to work in insurance but don't currently, it's not intended as advice, do your own research

Famous doesn't insure cars anymore? Or am i missing something.... The site only displays insurance for bikes.

That was discussed earlier on in this thread.. They now only do bikes;

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
