Thankfully, according to information any person who has their p's license before 1 july 2007 will have no restrictions.

ok, fair enough it may be common sense that these rules do not apply to those who already have a licence when they come in on the 1st of July next year, however, where does it state that it does NOT apply?

the thing bothers me is that are the young drivers the ONLY ones need attention??

this morning i nearly got run into twice by two stupid old blokes...one driving a 200gs Merc and one drives a falcon. they obviously do not understand the rules very well, especially that part which tells you not to pull out in front incoming traffic and give way to them instead.... ( if one of them pulled out 1 cm further, he would have ran into my passenger side door...that indicates how stupid he was.)

ppl look at me on the road and think im a hoon becoz i drive a skyline, and im 21. what about the old f**ks?????i did not do anything but travelled in my own lane on gympie rd...and if there were an accident, i am sure i would have been the one who gets the blame.....

so any actions taken against ppl who have had plenty of experience but still can not drive??

DESCRIMINATION!!!!!!!

people & the government especially like to descriminate against younger people because they feel that they have power over the younger people. they know the younger people wont speak up and have their voices heard so therefore, they make up whatever rules they want for the younger generation.

a cop will walk up and feel he can do and say whatever he wants with a young person (proven many many times with their additude). yet, if they walk up to someone 30+, they`ll just ask for a licence, either give them a warning or a fine and wont spit out any smart ass comments.

i personally was a bit of a hoon when i first started driving, and i do addimit it. and i got nothin but praise for ppl who actually take actions against hooning. it is for my safety as well as anyone else's.

but shoud the policy be pointed at on young ppl only????? this is the most ridiculous part.........and i do agree with John, it is DESCRIMINATION!!!!!!

These old people while may not be in accidents cause god knows how many and keep driving thinking they are in the right. Just a suggestion but perhaps SAU QLD should approach a local member 4 parliment and support the current changes and suggest similar licence conditions and changes governing old people and their licences - the current medical checks just arn't keeping road users safe from say people over 65/70

If your 19 then you cannot be on your opens...

Its impossible for you to be 19 and have opens.. I did it the fastest way humanlly possible...

I am not sure whether older people really are a menace on the roads, because you only have to look at the stats. Then again, stats can be made to lie to suit agendas.

At the end of the day, they'll be seen to be doing something, but better driving training is the key - not just getting in the car with your parents and doing 'xxx' hours. Because you can spend 'xxx' doing whatever, but it doesn't mean it's productive.

I think some of the moves will actually back-fire, especially the passenger rule - thinking back to when I just turned 18. You're at a party. Four of you get drunk, and the one sober guy decides to drive people home and be the designated drive. Ok, the other guys might make a ruckus and destract the driver, but that happens. At least you have a fair chance of getting home in one piece.

Now what happens under this new rule? Only one passenger under 21, therefore maybe another one of the drunk guys decides to take the risk and drive home instead, as his mates can't give him a lift?

Do all the states follow the same P plate time period as QLD? What if you transfered an international license to an Aussie one? Does that go direct to opens?

i think these new laws are a good idea

u cant stop young people being killed in motor accidents, but can make it harder for them

QLD Transport rules are...

*16 and a half to get learners

*Must have learners for 6 months min before driving test

(This means 17 is the youngest you can be to have a p plate)

*3 years on P plates before you get opens

(This means 20 is the youngest you can be to have opens)

*Motorbikes are different tho due to the Q ride system. A P plater can get their unrestricted licience after 1 year of P plates then doing Q ride. But this does not mean they can drink and ride. They still have to be 0.0 Blood alchol all it does is allow them to have a pillion and ride any sized bike.

As for international licicene i reckon they should all do a driving test. People should not be able to simply fill out some paper work and have a drivers licicence.

I just got off the phone to qld transport. I was talking to a worker of qld transport about the new laws coming in to affect from July 1st 2007.

I had a very interesting conversation with him. He told me that this new law WILL NOT AFFECT QLD p plate drivers who have got there p plates before July 1st 2007.

He also told me that he and his fellow colleagues did not no about these new laws until they had read the paper on saturday morning. He also told me that these new laws have only been proposed and have not even been looked at by the government yet so the new laws may even be scraped al together.

you need 100 hours of clocked time from a proferssional teacher...

Its interesting to mention that in nsw where you need to have 50 hours on your L's to progress to your p's that i do not know a single person who clocked them legitimentally - the same will happen in QLD - so why make a law that in not enforcable at all??

Another interesting point is how the driving test to get P plates is scored. - an example: Myself and my brother in law went for our p's at the same time in Bris - he went in an instuctor excel or somthing. I went in my 300ZX TT - instructor told me to perform a paralel park between imaginary cars and of course said i did it wrong - a complete set up. My bro veered onto the wrong side of the road at one point, stalled the thing twice, even locking the brakes at one point...

He got his licence, I did not... You should have heard the examinor stuttur and pause before making up buls##t reasons i "faild"

Exactly! They aren't even real laws yet although the media has been making them out to be. Seems like a bit of a publicity stunt to me.

I agree with most of the new laws. I am 24 and when I got my 33 GTST I had just turned 23, this means that if the laws come in when I was getting my licence then I would of not been able to get my skyline. This does not worry me as it means I would have to wait and save more money for another 2 years until I was illegiable.

I dont see the problem with "younger" drivers being forced to drive cars with a low power to weight ratio. If you really want a skyline, supra or silvia then get a non-turbo one. They still look as good. Power should be earned not taken for granted, if we were to earn the right to be able to own the car that we want, by driving safely and know that they have the experience to handle the extra power then we would have less young driver driving like bats from hell on our roads.

I know that it could have saved a few friends of mine when the young driver lost control of their turbo "sports car". Loosing somone who you love to a stupid road accident that could have been stopped if he had slowed down, makes you realise how important it is to abide to the raod rules and take car when driving. This is not to say that if he had of been driving a less powerful car that the accident would not have happened, but he would have been going lots slower when they come off the road.

My point from all this is, if we earn the right to own a "powerful car" by having more driving lessions, restricting use of phones, limiting passengers at night and making it harder for repeat offenders to get back their licences, then maybe we would have less young drivers dying on the roads. And if it doesn't stop the young deaths then it will make more of the middlle aged drivers of the future better drivers because they learned to drive not just got given their licences.

we dont earn the right to own powerful cars, We should have the right to. it called freedom.... It is our money, and should be allowed to spend it how we wish..

I dont like the new laws, restricting what we can and cannot own/drive.. but i do agree with the longer learners period....

When i learnt to drive i learnt in redcliffe and dont recall ever doing over 60, never learnt highway or night or rain. i did this after..... europian countrys have a law saying u cant get a license wtihput doing these atleast twice....

Yeah, we do have freedom, but in Australia we dont send our troops off to war with out the proper training and safety (anymore :happy: ) Its just my opinion that we should have to prove ourselves worthy to be able to be behind the wheel of a powerful car.

    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
    • Regardless of neglect or incompetence, fixing either is tedious and annoying. Most of the neglect on my car is definitely rust. I hope I can at least pass inspections later on and they won't fail the car due to slightly corroded hardlines. I was generous with rust converter and wax and it looks ok, most lines in the rear are hard to see properly anyways.  Definitely will test them though to make sure they don't rupture under pressure, in that case the car isn't going anywhere this year.
