PSI_GTSII
Well, went to check out the brakes and pricing etc today....and was a little bit more than I thought! First up you cannot get DBA5000 rotors for the Standard 296mm R32 GTR, so it looks like (If I can cover the cost thru work) I'll be going for the 355mm DBA 5000 Discs's with either Brembo or AP Racing Calipers, with Braided lines, fluid and pads it retails for $10400 for the AP Racing or $9800 for the Brembos.... tacker
Has anyone tried the G4 330 mm kit and i know its made in some where else land but does it work. think the price was 2300 or near that Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2462043 Share on other sites
sav man
i just got the 355mm dba 5000 disks to go with my porsche calipers. There ment to be for a Coon GT , I just need to get some shims made up as the coon has a bigger centre bore than the skyline, and a 5mm spacer. $10400 is heaps, that would be for all 4? My Porsche setup is looking to cost ~$3900 for the front, and i'm leaving the rears. FTR the guy at the brake place says the Brembos and AP Calipers are similar in Performance but the Brembos offer more W*nk value....?....Never really thought of them like that but as there so similarly priced I prefer the Brembos only because the GTRs came with Brembos. The 330mm G4 8 Piston Brakes sold by Just Jap for $2499 including Pads brackets and braided lines does seem like good value indeed Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2462131 Share on other sites

PSI_GTSII
Ok going down to order these brakes. So of the 2 Brake options shown above (AP Racing or Brembo) whats the general consensus on which is best, i'm leaning towards the Brembos purely to keep with the factory theme, but am not really fussed either way. Which do you guys reckon is the way to go...? Also the bloke down there wants to buy my old Cross drilled 296mm discs and factory calipers...what do you reckon they are worth as I have no idea!...? Cheers Edited September 5, 2006 by PSI_GTSII Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2464468 Share on other sites
gtr fan
I once drove a 33 gtr with that AP set up on the front and nearly creamed myself, I loved them! AP is just as much a reputable brand as Brembo! I think you need to upgrade the master cylinder on 32 gtr's when you have bigger callipers don't you? Sydneykid
Go round the corners faster and you don’t need to waste that sort of money on braking hardware. Spend the money on suspension and circuit driver training and I bet you do faster lap times. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2465079 Share on other sites
Beer Baron
well on my 32 GTR I have the following: DBA 4000 series rotoros front and rear Endless Carbon/ceramic CC-R pads front and rear cusco master cylinder brace nismo braided lines motul RBF600 fluid cut off the front stone guards and i'm still not completely happy. running on yokohama A048 semis on 17X9 inch rims. not sure what i'll do next. Ended up getting the Brembo's, they are slightly cheaper than the AP and the disk size was bigger 355mm vs 343mm although the AP Caliper is a 6 piston jobbie, and the Brembo only a 4, there is also a 3 week wait to import either of them. GTRsean
The ap calipers don't have piston dust seals so are not suited to street driving. Ronin 09
The ap calipers don't have piston dust seals so are not suited to street driving. not true - CP5555 are a road caliper and have dust seals... http://www.apracing.com/roadcar/caliper/da...p?family=CP5555 what is the thickness on the rotor on the brembo kit? it's not all diameter... my APs are 355x36mm - most 355 i've found are 32mm thick that extra mass (should) make a difference as you've got greater heat capacity Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2466166 Share on other sites

Have a read through it as its got alot of great advice Click Me! That was a good read thankyou Alot of you guys are very serious about your brakes and suspension setups! So in summary, for an R32 GTR that is to be street driven, has under 250rwKWs, and is occasionally to be used in short Hillclimbs, Club style Track days against the clock and Motorkhanas (And i'm Guessing the majority of 32 GTR owners fall into this catagory) The best brake upgrade would be: Motul RBF600 fluid DBA4000 replacement rotors (Retaining original Calipers) Ferado DS2500 pads Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2467733 Share on other sites

phunky_monkey
If your replacing your discs I'd also get a caliper extension bracket and run 343mm front rotors with your stock discs. For the sake of $220 why not. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132307-now-r32-gtr-brake-upgrade-discussion/page/2/#findComment-2467797 Share on other sites
GTRgeoff
Some detail that a lot of people forget....oh and I recommend you look into RS73s group but for RDA discs. Car & Driver did a test a few years ago ...Test Car was a WRX (US Spec which only uses two piston sliding caliper, not as good as Nissan 4 spot or later Model WRX 4 pots) So tested kits were, std car, std car with upgraded pads and fluid, Brembo F50 Kit, Brembo Lotus Kit (Similar to as fitted to GTRs, 44/38mm pistons), Stoptech it and Prodrive Kit (Alcon) Stopping Distances 70mph - 0 , 3 Stop Brembo F50;_____________ 185 / 183 (Average / Best) Brembo Lotus; ______________ 200 / 196 Prodrive; __________________ 198 / 194 StopTech;__________________ 187 / 186 Stock; ____________________ 205 / 196 Stck with pads and fluid; ____187 / 184 The above figures are all in feet, one stop difference between pad and fluid upgrade to crappy sliding caliper brake setup and massive Brembos is 1 ft...lol 30cms:( And over 3 stops the average is 2 ft...lol 60cms:) So you can see the one stop max of the upgraded pads and fluid is damn good when you consider the $$$ to % difference.
