Just got home from a long run through the night. Silly bastared left the keys in plain sight :laugh:

The thing is meant to be running std boost....but the gauge reads 1.5bar !!!! Is that std boost for an EVO? No wonder they go do bloody well, thats a lot of bosot for a std car

.... PS, i did go for a drive, but didnt take it without his permission. Im no low mongrel. But that is the boost it runs. And it is so very nice and tight to drive....seats, gearbox, clutch, all feels great

VERY nice james... Advan RS's are THE rims to get for an EVO 8 or 9.

So tempting... i was going to buy a GTR next year but decided i would save a little more and wait for the EVO X to come out... ive always loved the EVOs... I want one now.

Standard boost is around 1.1/1.2 bar

Kam - I stopped at the BP in Albury at about 7am, figured you'd still be snoozing

Matt - Yep, will be getting my backside trackside next year - and of course at DECA

Greg - yeah, he may not be as hard-corey assassin styles as THE Golgo, but I'll have the plates on there lickety split. Must maintain the illusion that I'm cool :)

Mav - not only a working heater, but aircon too. Woo!

Akeenan - OK, totally different machine to the R. Feels 'zippy' rather than powerful. Is definitely quick, but doesn't have that endless power sense you get in the Skyline. However, it basically has it's power whenever you want it, and certainly feels much more nimble and chuckable. Plus - it's practical. 4-doors, big boot, easy in traffic... In the garage next to the R32, it really makes the Skyline look like a low slung sports car. Is longer than the R32 - and in reality, quite big. Plenty of room for me to sit in the back, and I'm no Leewah.

Is more a 'practical' GT-R alternative, rather than a competitor. Is still fast and fun - but in a different way. GT-R is still the king of the track, but for a daily driver... Evo FTW.

Re: Boost.

I'll have to check for vacuum line mods, as there is no EBC and it's on the stock ECU. Has DEFI boost guage (sweeeet) that reads 1.5bar with the hammer down. Due to the different turbo setup on the MR, is factory boost different? Will have to do some learning...

Are you sure the turbo is different on the MR?

I was under the impression the MR is just the lightweight RS version, with all the goodies from the GSR..?

If they've bypassed the stock boost solenoid, it would be running off the actuator, which might be 1.5bar

You should check it out first, but the stock 560cc injectors should be able to handle 1.5bar fine

I know the turbo outlet on the MR is different to the GSR. It also gets a different exhaust, aluminium roof, oil cooler, swanky suede seats etc

This from Mitsu press release:

The well-proven 2-liter in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC intercooler-turbocharged 4G63 engine has undergone detail improvements. The power unit retains Lancer Evolution's trademark flat torque band that kicks in from low engine speeds but now generates gutsier torque in the mid- to high-rev band.

The turbocharger uses a larger turbine nozzle with matching cam profile to deliver higher output at mid- to high engine speeds.

The turbocharger waste gate now uses two solenoids. This optimizes boost pressure control to give more stable torque in the low to mid-range and helps the powerplant to generate class-topping torque of 40.8kg-m (400N-m) at 3,500 rpm.

Durability is improved through shape optimization and reinforcement of the cooling water channels, uprating from a 3-ply to 5-ply head gasket and the use of magnetic ion-coated piston rings.

Engine response is improved with the use of lighter silent shafts. Cooling performance is improved with the use of a larger oil cooler that features two extra rows.

Evolution 8

Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-9.8T (GSR / USDM E8)

TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T (RS/RS2)

Nozzle Area (cm2) = 9.8

Turbine = USDM EVO 8 & JDM GSR =Inconel (steel alloy),

RS/Rs2=Titanium alloy.

Compressor = Aluminium, 68mm wide

Evolution MR aka "8.5"

GSR = TD05HR-16G6-10.5T or TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (Ti Alloy option)

RS = 6MT:TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T or 5MT:TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T

Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5 or 9.8(RS-5speed)

Compressor = Aluminium, 68mm wide

All Evo 4-8 Turbos are twin scroll designs meaning that the engines exhaust is divided into two channels (see first pic). As the engine exhausts in pulses.. its supposed to result in quicker spooling. From the Evo 4 onwards, the Turbo spins in the opposite direction, i.e. Anticlockwise (hence the R in the turbo name). The Titanium Alumnide alloy used in the RS/RS2 and some GSRS (factory option) has less inertia and thus spins up around 500 rpm sooner. These Titanium turbos can be indentified by the A in their name.

James kisses boys and drives a Lancer.

Looks pretty sweet, We will see just how good it looks on the track with tyre smoke ripping off the guards and you driving it like you wanna break it!

Really needs the rims.

You suck

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
