well I have finally done it!! I'm sooo proud of myself!!!

It's been about 5 weeks so far and I've been through all the hard tests like drinking alcohol, and sitting around (at BBQs, pubs etc) while other people are smoking.

So, has anyone else here quit?? How long did you smoke for and how did you go about giving it up?

Congrats.........................you are [now] already a better looking person as well as healthier. And you won't get around smelling like an ash tray. Keep up the good work, stay strong.

Nothing worse than seeing somebody with a ciggie hanging out of their gob. It's an ugly sight.

PS I gave up so long ago I'm afraid to say, but when a packet of smokes went $1 I said nu hu too much.

Congrats!

I gave up about 3 months ago aswell. I smoked for 10 years and allways hated it but could never quit. then oneday they went in the bin and that was it!

I feel heaps better and am not ashamed anymore. but every time I hit beer number 7 out come the ciggaz...

it makes me feel sick to think about it. ewwww.

damn you Shell !!!! :)

everyone's bugging me to stop smoking, but i havent even attempted it.

i think i gotta make the desicion for myself, and then it will work.

congrats. good work.

I know your pain!

Everyone I know who smoked gave up, and whilst they are pressuring me to quit - the more they push the more I don't want too!

Best of luck Shell! I quit a few years back for about a year.... Then I went to Indy and the rest was history :)

well done shell congrats.

as for myself i never thought of quiting nor don't think of quiting, other-half hates it when i spark up, but she put up with it for 2 years so i guess she can put up with it for a lot longer, as she says she can't wait for me to 'kark it' so that she can have the gtr when i do.

I fully respect other people when they say they hate smokers so i make sure i go for a walk (or in a corner) when i do. As for 'other-half' after i finish sparking up, i wash my hands, and fill mouth with tick-tacks, that keeps her silent for a while until i spark up 10-15mins later.

thanks everyone!! :D

Veilside, I probably smoked about 2 packs a week (of 40's). I know it doesnt sound as much as some, but i'd been smoking for over 10yrs so it was still hard

The reason I quit was totally out of the blue... I just got the shits one night about having to pay $17 for ciggies at a servo (the only thing open when i finish work) and i was having a pov week and wasn't even sure if I HAD $17 in by bank account... so I thought fck it!

I'd never tried to quit before, I had always thought I will do it "one day" - so that night I decided that it was time!

i think i gotta make the desicion for myself, and then it will work.
this is SO TRUE... you gotta have it happen like I did where you actually WANT to quit and you're only doing it for your own reasons.

I didn't even tell anyone for the 1st week.

    • Jack the back of the car up, pull that wheel off, pull that sensor out, and put a bore scope into the hole to inspect the outer casing, see if anything looks damaged before you pull the whole thing apart.
    • Ergh... So I pulled the speed sensor out again and the tip was shiny so I think it's rubbing the bearing. The bearing contains the magnets for the speed sensor so I think when the first sensor broke it damaged the magnet ring on the bearing.  This is just a Google image, but there is a hole going to the bearing. So when the tip broke off the old sensor I'm guessing it fouled the bearing... As the magnet is only protected by a plastic cover it would be easy to damage it. So I guess I'm doing a bearing again.
    • My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.
    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
