Hi guys,

I am very worried, i have had my car in for a long over due 7 weeks ( ment to be 2) in a panel beater and i got it back yesturday, the guy told me it will run a little ruff because it has only been start and driven 5 metres and stopped for 7 weeks. It is alot worse than a little ruff!

The car idle is very ruff and cuts out when stopping. the car is blowing alot of dark black smoke. and when i hit turbo the car has a flat spot that last for ever and the car shudders if trying to accelerate but can't and poors out black smoke.

I have a apexi pfc had ben taken out and on the floor and avcr which the boost was on hi after i left it off. My car is out of rego cause they took so bloody long and i can't get a pink slip while my car is like this.

Guys i am very worried.

They could have even put standard fuel in it. Would this cause these problems?

The car will not turn over today could this be damage spark plugs due to the 7 weeks of hell it was put through.

Can anyone help me out?

hey mate,

few options here,

what was the original reason the car was at ythe panel beaters? if it has takin a hit you may be looking at things like a smashed afm, leaking cooler pipes etc.

option two is if they have washed the engine bay down after work and the plugs now have water in them.

start by checking things like plugs and that the afm is actually plugged in.

the excissive black smoke says the engine doesnt know how much air is entering or that it isnt being ignited in the cylinder.

see how you go

gc

Dont stress too soon. Mine wasnt much better. Billowed smoke out the exhaust as well. Just change the plugs, put some good fuel in it and dump the oil (it can get a fair wack of condensation in it doing cold starts all the time) ... and take it from there

check if the AFM plug is in properly..

if it's not connected properly the ECU will go into failsafe mode, not allowing you to rev is more than 3500rpm and cause the motor to run excessive rich

Mine did the same also..

Massive amounts of black smoke.. wanted to stall etc..

Appeared to come good then later discovered they hadn't reconnected the carbon canistor so I had a massive vacuum leak. I doubt that would have been related as a vacuum leak has it running leaner. But none the less..

Also ran out of fuel driving to the closest petrol station, later found out they ran up close to 100km's in it. :(

with all my experiments with the afm e.g mesh take out, how ecu copes with free flow etc etc it sounds to me ur afm is gone.... it stutters at acceleration as if its struggles to climb revs.. at idle it'd blow black smoke, going from 0.5 to 1.5 ( depends ) blowing huge black smoke, ..overall its CRAP

if so dats ur afm man but check vac leaks n all just incase but yeah clean it with some wd40 the afm, and da ensor inside especially n see wat happens!

cheers

panel beaters..scares me to put my car in

Check your plugs! I reckon thats what ya problem will be.

A mate couldnt get his car to turn over after been at panel beaters, changed all sorts of things, didnt fix it, changed the plugs and bang, problem solved!

the wrong AFM setting in the powerFC will do this - a f**ked afm will do it also.

Why did the powerfc need to be removed?

Also, make sure your AAC valve is connected properly - thats another thing that will kill idle and blow black smoke.

Can't think of anything else. The 02 sensor has nothing to do with it - Mine is turned off, and My car runs perfectly.

If those assholes took it for a joyride, I'd be taking a few 0's off the bill.

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I highly rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
