Well its christmas time and I had a free day to stick my front mount in!

The install went pretty well. I bought a cheap Just Jap R33 kit, and suprisingly everything lined up pretty well.

I had to make my own lower brackets that were longer than the ones provided, and dropped the intercooler 30mm to ensure it would fit under the top of the front bar. Other than that it all came together much quicker than I expected!

Now it has brought up a few little problems!

I had to remove my windscreen washer pump and bottle to make way for the piping! So now i cant clean my windows! Has anyone had this problem, and know of a good solution? like a smaller bottle that works?

It now hits boost cut all the time too! so i had to put the standard little brass restrictor back in the vacume to the turbo. Will an SAFC II be able to overide boost cut? I understand the ECU takes a value from the AFM to determin the cut off...

Also I cant run the intake feed for the standard air box because it fouls the new piping...

I dont really want to run a pod, because they are loud and i want to keep this thing as sleeper and stealth as possible, but it looks like i have no choice, does anyone know a quiet pod? (haha a weird question i know!)

Any help here would be awesome! thanks guys!

Same place mine is, nice and hidden, well done! Although my wiper spray bottle is still in the stock position....... A couple of mates have relocated it to the other side where the stock smic was and just run wiring and changed the tubing to suit, works well.

I've seen a 180sx washer bottle swapped into an R33 to clear intercooler plumbing.

R34 bottle will do the job as well most likely. my S2 has tonnes of room under the rails on the driver's side. I've moved my A/T oil cooler over there as my front mount uses the std piping run.

last,pods aren't that much louder,and do flow more air than the box ever will.

The kit, id assume, hey. U can pick up a GKTech intercooler (same as mine and Andys EGA41T) for about $400 delivered. Polishes up beautifully, and after a run u can burn urself on the turbo side and see condensation on the other side.

What sort of boost were you running before the cooler? What was it peaking at after to hit the boost cut? I've just been messing around with my boost a bit but have reverted back to standard after I was seeing 1.1 bar at only 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. Made it difficult to drive somewhat

I'm looking for a fmic ...leaning towards a JJ kit but im concerned about having to relocate the washer bottle...did all u guys have to do the same thing?...if not...how did u modify the piping...would be great help if you could post some pics...gives noobs like me a better idea of what i should/not be doing.

im sure thats with the blitz lm and arc kits....but they're expensive....was going to get a china cooler or jj kit...its cheaper...but wondering if its really neccessary to relocate the washer bottle and cut the front support bar....can anyone who's installed one of the HDI copy 600x300x76 kits care to explain further?

plazman do a kit for the stageas so there is no need for new piping. i looked at it myself but it wasnt cheap. a bit over 2 grand i think. cant remember the web sit but google it ,shouldnt be to hard to find. I went for a hybrid r33-34 gts fmic, cost $780 and $400 to fit and it came out really good will post some pics when i get mine back from the transmition place.

yea...saw the plazaman cooler on one of the threads on sau....but too pricey imho. if i wanted a cooler that routes back to the standard piping...would rather buy an ARC or blitz LM...from recollection they have the return pipe feeding back to the stock position

for the price u paid...u could've got the blitz cooler and installed it urself for just under a grand.

from what i have heard the return pipe to the stock position restricts the air flow ... was going to do the install myself but wouldnt have done a good a job as the shop did. One good thing i found though was when i was trying to chop out some of my bumper for more air flow into fmic. started with my dremel grinder but it was a bit rough so tried wit my stanley knife and it cut through the plastick really easy and left really neat cuts. the plastic in the bummpers is quite soft

Not sure why it would "restrict" flow in any way, unless the pipes were too small or had too many curves/bends. If there are some tight bends for the air to pass through, then my understanding would be that you'd try and spread that bend over a greater distance so you keep air velocity up. Fair enough that there may be some increased lag due to the longer pipe lengths with a return-feed FMIC, but a standard FMIC would probably have similar lag issues too.

Got any photos, Jerome? I'd like to see the results (and I'm sure I'm not the only one).

    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.  
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
