A true champion the way he has dealt with the weekends disappointment. Hope Webber learns from him by not alientating the team... http://www.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/new...416115412.shtml

Nect few GPs will be itneresting for RBR. Webber needs to keep his mouth shut and get on with the job. Talk has the new seamless gearboc giving them 3-4 tenths so they will have the chance to be at the heels of BMW. In fighting by pointing fingers wont help the team achieve its goals

Why was Kubica so much slower that Heidfeld?

Experience, car setup??? Hiedfeld seems in inspired form.

Inspired my ass. More like contract renewel is up so its time to put on a good show

Rumour is that Toyota is a possiblity. Dr Mario is keen to get Vettel into a seat and Kubica is his prodigy in progress, so the pressure is on. Be interesting to see how this pans out because I dont see who they'll drop. Heidfeld needs to keep this sort of form up to retain his seat.

Hopefully Heidfeld stays, and if Kubica doesnt pick up his game by the end of the season he can gtfo and give Vettel a run for a year... then keep the guy with more promise. Personally i dont see Vettle doing much, so i cant see what the big rush is?

Speaking of engines, I was reading Jack Brabhams biography/autobio last night. When he was casting (get it, casting. anyway) around for a V8 block that Repco (Now ACL, not technically the Repco shops) could turn into an F1 engine he went to Japan in 1964. He viewed a small V8 motor with an aluminium block & cast liners. Unfortunately he formed the opinion it was too fragile for the basis of an F1 motor.

The interesting bit is that the block was made by a little car company called Prince......

I find it strangly coincidental that the MASSIVE fine that had been handed out to the organisers of the The land of goat sphincter rings GP was recended, fortunately enough, in time for Bernie Ecclestone's buyout of the track. He has personally guranteed its future until 2021 which im sure will make even richer... Nice to see theres no conflict of interests there

Former Ferrari employees in jail

24 April 2007

Two former employees of the Ferrari Formula 1 team faced trial on Monday and were found guilty. The duo stole Ferrari's software and brought it with them to their new office in Cologne at Toyota F1.

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport the two Italians will be taken to jail. One will have to go behind bars for nine months, the other for one year and four months.

LOL

Heidfeld revels in Nordshleife glory

29 April 2007

BMW wrote another chapter in motor sport history on the legendary Nordschleife at the Nürburgring on Saturday when a modern Formula 1 vehicle was driven round the 20.8 kilometre race track for the first time in 31 years in front of a crowd numbering 45,000.

BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld was extremely enthusiastic after three laps in the F1.06: "This drive was simply incredible. I thought it would be great to drive on the Nordschleife before I started out. But it was even better than I had expected. This racing track is the best in the world. I'd really like to have emptied the tank. It was a very special moment when I left the grand prix circuit in the direction of the Nordschleife. I was really shaken up at the Bergwerk section and on the Döttinger Höhe. I'll never forget today as long as I live. Another particularly special experience has now joined the many fantastic childhood memories and racing successes."

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said: "We wanted to give fans a special treat. And I believe we have done this with the entire BMW motor sport programme. The BMW M3 GTR that Olaf Manthey presented today was welcomed like an old friend. The car is actually much too athletic for the museum. Naturally, the high point was Nick's drive with the F1.06. We had implored him to be careful. The day was a homage to the fans and to this unique circuit in the world of racing. For once, the lap times were a secondary consideration."

Despite unusually hard demonstration tyres and short transmission ratio, Heidfeld notched up a top speed of 275 km/h on the long straight called the "Döttinger Höhe". The second lap was his fastest lap and took 8:34 minutes.

McLaren have been testing a new front wing at barcellona (couldn't see this mentioned above)

the new wing extension connects to the end plates and goes over the top of the nose of the car

not sure how much this will flex though with our any central support and small amount at each end

knocking off Renaults idea.. in an albeit less elegant application

It was such a beautiful car upto this point aswell

They're probably the last team in the paddock to not be running this setup... look how long it took them to get those sidepod endplates into a race prepared car. I heard most of their devlopment centred around the rear of the car. Anyways, i cant wait for them to explain this one

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
