Why go back in years???

I voted downgrade... As nice as a GTR is, id prefer the comfort and the modern bits and pieces the R34 GTT has to offer...

However if you question was should i get a Series 2 or 3 R33 GTR then it might be a different story...

tiptronic is tip-crappy... Manual is 100% better.. Drove both now own manual ...

Drove a GTR and didnt have the same handling or feel as the GTT.. abit of a let down in the R32 .. R33 set me straight tho!

having driven heaps of both, an r34 gtt, is a nice new car, which goes well. 99% r32 gtr's show their age, its the little things that count, paint fade, squeaks and rattles, a/c not working, dash bubbles, if you can afford to get a really good one then they are a better car by far, but the running costs, maintainance and repairs(remember its more than 10 yrs older)will be 10 times that of the gtt that probably just needs servicing and tyres. Both great cars in my opinion.

sorry dude definate downgrade as col-gtsx sais as nice as a gtr sounds r32 are a bit to old an r33 gtr would be a wise value money decision even better stick with r34 and go the gtr can pick them up $55000 on the road, why not spoil yourself.

------------------remember smoke tyres not drugs-----------------

Any GTR is better than a lesser model in my opinion. If you pay the right price you will get a decent example in good condition. People expect to get a great 32 GTR for nothing. Just wont happen, you gotta pay for such a great car. I wouldnt own any other model of skyline other than a GTR. There is something about the R32 GTR that gets me in, aside from the facts on paper, potential, and the visual appeal.

I had the choice and went a 34 gt-t, the 32s are just too old which presents in everypart bein that old which means problems everywhere. If you can find a built one they are worth a look, but the 34 was the best choice in my case. Much nicer car to drive, look at and much newer in age.

seeing i own both.

uh the GTR kicks its ass in accel, turn in, exit, grip, braking, comfort.. and head room. i also prefer the GTR driving position. as the GTT is sitting higher. wher as the GTR is low seated and has proper buckets which support.

GTT is a GTST in a nutshell. no way near the same power levels no mater what it says on paper. and thers something about an RB26DETT reving to 9000rpm...

Id disagree on the brakes of a 32 gtr bein that much better than a 34 gtt and CERTAINLY comfort. The 34 is all over the 32 in that regard, no competition at all, the 32R is much more of a race car while the 34 gt-t much more of a cruiser.

u serious about the brakes..

hmm Group A racing machine Vs comfortable old mans car.

believe me when u own both and drive them. ull realise what a shit box the R34 is compared to something real.

in regards to comfort. i like the seating position in the R32 GTR. its far better. its lower and seated better. feel like ur in a car rather than on top of the R34. :) the steering wheel on the R34 is better. but nothing flash. the dash and surounds are PLASTIC. and the door handles are cheap and nasty.. 47000kms and they are peeling. GTR 100,000kms perfect!.. the interior is also more flimsy.. the passenger window switch is uin a akward place. as well the center console is higher than in the GTR.

the seats in the GTR are far better quality!..

and please dont get me started on the rears.. a plus for the GTT is the 5 seat belts..

THE RB25 is inferior in power despite claimed 206kw

the rear diff is a viscous compared to the 2 way mech in the BNR32

the gearbox is good. the auto is shit. the tip is a step up. but is laggy and quite dull.

and they mounted the battery in the engine bay again..? why? the R33 was in the back?

the boot is deeper but smaller in the R34. and gas strut boot is wasted weight.

the aluminum guars and bonnet on the GTR is far lighter. as well as the standard GTR suspension is far stiffer.

GTR sway bars are thicker. blah blah blah.

i still fail to see anything that stands out in general appeal.

206kw please.

also a XENON headlamp dip on the R34.. who they hell uses that.. wasted weight..

GTT dnt look as good bore like a boxy KE70

the BNR32 is a fat machine and the best looking skyline ever.

enough said.

have fun in whatever u do.

whats funny is my 1991 GTR is 8years older and shits on it still.

GTR POWAH

well despite both being skylines and both being around the same price they are two very different cars. for the money a 34 GTT is excellent value. good RWD chassis. nice engine. modern (if somewhat bland and boring) interior, cheap maintenance. BUT a GTR is a lot of car for that money. RB26DETT. AWD. flared body. lightweight panels. much more racy looking interior and exterior. huge amount of brand cache. and an amazing driving experience. the catch is you MUST get a good one. if you get a bad one you will be stuck fixing things on a car that may never be right. with a 34 GTT it's a little less crucial. they are not so complex. not so exotic so buying and fixing one up is not out of the question.

Personally I think a GTR is a much better choice for a real enthusiast. in fact they wouldn't even need to ask. it's a much better car than a GTT. BUT for average joe who just likes skylines and wants something fast, and looks nice and doesn't want to spend shitloads looking after it a GTT may be a smarter choice.

so my answer is: "it depends..."

for once u havent disagreed with me. lol

u also have to be weary of the GTT in aus. i got mine 3.5grade. and i went to yards looking for the right GTT and saw a nice claimed 4.0G and look underneath to find corosion galore and rust everywher. :) lefted that import yard.. one in springwood that sells dodgy things and offers silly 15k for a real GTR.. wtf..?. PM me and ill let u knw.

but generally its easier with the GTR as u wont hardly find a real one with under 100kms. wher as GTT fall in the 10-120kms bracket.

and if u judge by condition rather than paper work ull find the best. :)

in my opinion:

r34 is an upgrade in comfort etc

r32gtr is and upgrade in performance and handling

i prefer performance and handling over comfort. the r32 gtr is a pain in the ass to drive as a daily driver, but when put your foot down around a corner its all worth while. (assuming you dont loose it :))

steve

i voted 34's

dont' get me wrong 32 and 33's look great but i like the look of a 34 it's more rarer

in ma opinion the GTR's are just one of the nicest street performance cars aro und but yeah age does show on them a bit and with the 34's they're newer so prob wont' need as much attention to them

i had a choice to go 33 Gtr or gtt went for the gtt as i found that there were alot of 32's n 33's

but choice is urs dude:)

took the words out of my mouth. if your willing to look and tke the time to find a good r32gtr it will be alot better car, faster, handle better plus 4wd. in my opinion look for a good and i mean real good 32gtr and youll be surprised...UPGRADE TO 32GTR

Gtr all the way the original godzilla, better in everyway except maybe a touch of comfort but thats what you get in a budget supercar.....who cares about a bit less comfort when you have the gtr driving experience....

Each to their own i guess, i wouldn't go back to an r32...

The things like traction control, abs, airbags etc then theres the hoses are aren't splitting and electrics that aren't falling apart due to the approx 15 year age of the cars.

Plus every rb26 that hasn't been built tends to pop in the older r32s when pushed at all, again due to them bein race type cars they are used that way! And ive seen this time and time again, if it isn't built or absolutly factory mint condition i wouldnt touch it.

I agree performance wise the gtr will out-do a gtt, thats obvious thats why its a GTR not a GTT (or GTST) but take the whole lot into account and im glad i chose the 34 gtt. After ownin a 300+hp 32 gtst the awd and few extra's of the gtr didn't seem enough of an upgrade to stay in that age bracket esp not when in WA you can drive down the road and see 10 sh*tter 1989 gtrs cruisin around... im not sure what its like over east but 34s are alot rarer here.

Im only 20 but ive still gone the "old mans" choice hahaha :)

    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
    • Welcome to my 2004 Toyota Mark ii IR-V Fortuna (series 2) With a 1JZ-GTE powerplant under the bonnet (hood) it'll give me plenty of scope for power upgrades. For those who aren't familiar with imports, the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5L 6 cylinder VVTi engine with a single turbocharger. This has the factory R154 5 speed gearbox, along with a aftermarket 2 way LSD differential (brand unknown). Under the arches are a set of CST Zero 1 alloys, 18x9 +30 225/40 up front and 18x9.5 +15 265/35 on the rear. The car was quite low in Japan and there's evidence of the wheels catching the rolled arches/fenders. The tyre's aren't great so I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the tyres and put up with the wider wheels on the rear. The car still uses stock brakes with the addition of some braided hoses. The exterior is stock with the exception of a BN Sports front bumper and a replacement Fortuna grill  Moving to the interior, the steering wheel has been replaced with a dished MOMO steering wheel (which will get swapped for my Momo Tuner for the time being) Defi Link Gauges are mounted above the climate controls and on the A pillar, the Oil Temp,Oil Pressure,Water Temp and Boost gauges should help with spirited and track driving  The stock seats have been replaced with some retrimmed Recaro bucket seats. Being a larger build these are a little snug, unfortunately the orange isn't for me so I'll look into replacing these down the line. Other modifications include a twin plate clutch, Blitz intercooler, Evolve alloy radiator, a stainless exhaust with decat, HKS EVC-S boost controller and coil overs
    • Apologies for the long read My R34 GTT was up for sale at the beginning of spring due to a few repairs creeping up. The strut tops needed replacing, roof and bonnet (hood) painting (yay for 3 stage pearl) and the underside stripped and treated. I sold the car which allowed me to be in a much better place financially. Leading up to the sale I was already thinking about the replacement. In an ideal world it needed to be a good all-rounder. Something I can mess around with, modify, do track days, do the school run, go on long drives etc.  Options included but not limited to... Laurel C35, Evo 8/9, Civic FD2, Impreza Hawkeye, Aristo and even an Audi S4 Avant (I've already got the Mazda 6 wagon). But there was always one car at the top of the list The Toyota Mark ii JZX110 I found an advert on a Facebook group for an example in Japan, from a seller called Jon at Rising Sun Exports. A few messages back and forth and Jon calls me from Yokohama one morning (or afternoon in his case). He briefly explained the import process, the costs involved and a repeat of the advert. After much deliberation, the price was agreed and the sale was locked in. I've never imported a vehicle so I jumped into the unknown head first. The money transfer was completed through wise.com (fees apply), very easy to use and the money was with him within a day or two.  The car suspension was raised for the vessel and the car dropped off at the port. It was 7 weeks later when the bill of lading was received and the freight invoice sent to me, followed by the export certificate a couple of days after (both digital copies) In the mean time the port had been in contact. I needed an agent to deal with the NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) along with the tax/duty invoice, this was £75.00. The port also had a fee of £100, I'm guessing to cover the cost of the 10 day 'free storage' and for moving the car off the boat etc. They need a copy of the vehicle invoice, freight invoice and export certificate to allow the vehicle to pass through customs. The vessel arrived on Tuesday 5th August, the tax/duty invoice was generated and sent over. This is generally tax 20% and duty 10% of the vehicle value. Although the invoice came in at a higher amount than I had calculated. Once HMRC had received the payment the vehicle could be released from customs. I thought once the tax/duty was paid you could collect at any point, that's not the case. Your agent will need to book a collection slot, I requested Thursday 7th which was accepted, with a 9:00am slot allocated. It was a 5:00am start from Norfolk heading to Southampton. We eventually found the compound, upon presenting the bill of lading and some ID they released the car (they drove it out of the compound to the front ready for us to load up). The email from the port stated each slot had a 10 minute window, which seemed abit farfetched but the staff said it's not a strict rule. We were there for approx. 30-40 mins in total. A week prior to collecting I contacted my garage and explained the situation, I was able to get an inspection slot that afternoon. For the registration, DVLA require the car to be insured, for this I used a company called Adrian Flux who can insure the vehicle using the VIN number.
