I dont pretend to be mr Tech head when it comes to skylines and add ons/components/computers, but from what i have read on the sau forums the apexi FC is one of the most commonly used and easily tuneable computer out there for skylines, i was just thinking of buying one of these units for my car when i discovered they are discontinued... the problem is that im very limited to who can actually tune the fc/car as i live on the north west coast of tassie, so i set my mind on a apexi fc, but now... well we all know whats happened now! can anyone make some suggestions for some other engine management systems without paying an asaloute s#@t load??? and some places to get them tuned in the north of tassie? cheers :D

Bite the bullet and pay what you need to in order to get one. Still will work out cheaper than many other options, especially as you are in a remote area with few tuning options.

I just brought on for my R34, brand new one for $1400. A lot of money compared to six months ago, but whats a few hundred dollars in the scheme of things?

cheers guys preety much thinkin along the same lines... but the last one avalible i can locate is looking like costing me a bit over $1700... ouch, but i guess if you want the best all round/performance/tuning you gotta pay  id settle for a second hand one , but thats wishful thinkin, unlees someone knows where i can get my hands on one somewhere else?????

Check Ebay, there was another brand new R33 one on there going for around $1400.

hehe good luck with it. those people selling are sneaky buggers, the one before mine (another 34 one) was starting at $1200 with a buy it now at $1300. Then mine was starting at $1350, with a buy it now at $1400 (which is what I payed). Now they are selling this R33 one, starting at $1350, with no buy it now price... Hopefully it wont go as high as $1700 for you though!

yeah thats because the sr20 model is still made

the ecr33 and er34 model are no longer made

i mean there are still thousands of units in circulation, just no new units

paul, at the moment apexi are not producing anything, or filling any new order so no PFC models are still being sold new *except for what is in stock in peoples shops.

I do alot of EMANAGE ULTIMATES with great success (in total about 50/50 with PFC) the emanage is let down by poor workshops and installations. If you buy a plug and play harness it works out easier as you dont have to rely on the workshop to wire it up..... i spend a lot of my time bouncing from workshop to work shop inmelb trouble shooting emanage for TRUST and 99% of the time it is poor instalation.... frustrating to say the least.

What's the upper limit on the Ultimate?

depends really on the users knowledge of the system and the car, i have tuned a few 300rwkw plus ultimates. My missus runs one in her RB26 powered S13 (soon to sport twin T517Z) so again it will be a mid 300rwkw car.

Apexi is not officially bankrupt.

thanks for correcting something I didn't say. read it again. what I said was:

"at the moment apexi are not producing anything, or filling any new orders so no PFC models are still being sold new *except for what is in stock in peoples shops."

it's quite possible they will re-commence production and sales of some (or even all) apexi products in the future either after a bail out or buy out. but as I've now said twice. at the moment they are not producing anything, or selling anything. so unless you can get a hold of a shop that has current stock you wont be buying a new one for the moment, and you may, or may not be buying them in the future either. that is anyones guess right now.

================================================

We have heard preliminary reports of Apexera, the parent company of Apexi, declaring bankruptcy here in Japan. The reports suggest Apexera is seeking government assistance but still operating as normal, with the divisions other than Apexi being the largest contributing factor.

We will continue to offer all Apexi products for sale as we have confirmation of availability at the current stage and do not expect this to change in the short term. As with all of our products, we will keep the website updated with any changes in availability, so there is no need to send additional enquiries.

With large world wide support, including Apexi USA, we do not anticipate there will be any long term impact into the availability of Apexi products.

anyone know anything concrete to the contrary

there are a couple of Pfcs on ebay for 1400

there still good value even at that price

Im a huge power fc fan but i think on this forum in particular they are a bit over rated. I have one in another car and think its great however.

Im going for a LINK G3 with R33 adaptor loom and wasted spark setup. The downside is they only run 4 coil drivers so unless you want to wasted spark your coils you need to run a wasted spark setup. The stock coils suck anyway so replacing them never hurts. You get lower temps, better life, and more spark so win win!!

1269 AUD including a loom adaptor. Add in a wasted spark setup (if you want to) for 200 and you have an incredibly good computer for 1469. More mapping points, dual fuel and ignition maps. Take into account the fact you also dont need an AFM and its a great deal.

    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
    • Yes they do. For some maybe. But for those used the most by abusers, ie Skylines, the numbers are known. The stock eyebrow height for R32/3 Skylines is about 365/375mm or thereabouts. The minimum such heights are recorded in adjacent columns in the database.
