Autosports "ultimate Control" Skidpan No#1, March 24th Oran Park

Recommended Posts

Autosports Australia and Ian Luff Motivation Australia are proud to announce the first of what we think will be the new trend in skidpan days.

Welcome to

Autosports "Ultimate Control" skidpan.

(No#1)

Saturday March 24th

ORAN PARK, SYDNEY

These events aren’t not just a skidpan event; these events are designed ultimately for fun and to challenge your driving ability.

It isn’t up to who has the most horsepower…it isn’t up to the latest breaker… its up to who learns the most and who has the combination of finesse and skill to win and overcome a challenging situation.

The basis of these events was to create a one day “mini Dutton Rally†style event where people with no experience can get in and find out what all the fun others are having at these styles of events is about. At the

same time experienced drivers who want to learn more and maybe get the edge over their competitors.

So if you want to be apart of a motivating and challenging fun filled day of ripping it up on the skidpan, get your name down for one of these events.

You will learn more about driving technique in challenging conditions than you will on a full race track.

So come along and meet a bunch of fellow motoring and motorsport lovers and some new friends. You will have fun in your car like you want to be doing and not just talking about it and I promise go home with a smile on your dial. So get in and have a go…

The days event will be run along the lines of the following;

Format for the day:

Guests arrive 8 am,

sign on and registration (tea, coffee served)

9.00 am

Driver Briefing. Note Drivers that arrive late and miss the safety briefing will not be allowed to participate and will forfeit full payment.

* Drivers divided into groups.

9.30 am

Introductions to driving disciplines individual challenges include:

1.) Clover Leaf

A timed activity that incorporates power slides around the plastic markers. The wet surface will really provide lots of challenges.

2.) Super Slalom

Again competitors run against the stop watch to see who will be Top Gun. Touch a soft plastic cone and a timed penalty will apply.

3.) Autocross

The ultimate driving test where too much power will see you sideways. Smooth is fast and the stop watch will determine who is the best driver.

4.) Drag & Drift

Gas it out of the start box flat out onto the skid pan. Two laps around the wet circle without spinning out. Back through the mini slalom and stop in the garage.

THE FASTEST 3 DRIVERS FROM EACH OF GROUP ENTER THE FINAL ROUND

5.) Khanacross

A combination driving activity where acceleration, braking and change of direction around he plastic markers will see all drivers living on the edge. Any mistakes incur a timed penalty.

So not just bragging rights… there will also be prizes on offer on the day and the Autosports Crew will be on hand as well having fun with you guys. This together with everyone cheering each other along or paying out on each other, outlines how we will bring a new dimension to the fun factor at our Oran Park…

    • Maybe it's time for a M3 F80 LCI, and leave it stock.  Drive it to a shop, sip on your latte with nutmeg whilst it gets serviced and on the way home swing by and grab some chai mix for the evening.
    • Great work! Thanks for documenting the process.
    • How would you even adjust the clutch if the pedal already has the correct free play? The operating cylinder has no adjustment in mounting position or rod length. On pull style clutches there is also no ability to adjust the bearing carrier. Push type I can see how adjusting the carrier height makes it all work.   If this is the twin plate clutch did you verify that your friction disks were oriented correctly? It's not mentioned in the directions at all you just have to notice that one side the friction disks have a part number on the hub fingers and a subtle coning to those fingers. Another thing that I noticed was if you put the friction disks in backwards the pressure plate fingers will not be even and flat when the clutch is installed.
    • yeah, mechanically, it is probably do-able, off the top of my head, there would be the transfer case, which I believe will bolt up to the rear of the RWD transmission, the shorter rear tail shaft. A front drive shaft, front diff, engine upper sump, front drive shafts, front hubs and front AWD struts (they are shaped around the front drive shafts), LCAs (at the very least from the front suspension) oil cooler.  You might want the rear diff from an AWD too, so you can be certain the front and rear diff rations are identical.  Who knows what brackets and mounts you might need.  So a whole doner car might be the best option if you need to maintain RHD. Then actually making it work, that would be a whole different story.
