Hey guys atm i am sorting through a few things and may end up moving to Melbourne, I will have a job just not sure what yet. I am more concerned about the living costs over there

i am 22 and still live at home and don't get it easy but a lot easier than living on my own. I don't have much money hence the possible move and will have to set my self up from scratch (one of the things holding me back)

what are some good areas to look at for reasonable priced (rental) apartments / flats closeish to the CBD?

I don't know anyone in Melbourne so any help will be appreciated

cheers

maybe try clayton? Blackburn/Nunawading is not bad - and u just take the eastern freeway to the city (no e-tag required). Id stay away from places like dandenong and springy (but thats just my opinion) - just in terms of general safety.

"just in terms of general saftey"

LOL! you make it sound heaps bad.

but i agree, nunawading is good.

haha...well..yeah they are not the safest for people or if they got good cars. A friend of mine (who is a lawyer) worked at a springvale law firm for work experience. One night when he was leaving work, he noticed that there was someone going through his car - so he yells out...and the guy doesnt run, but just calmly gets up and walks away. My friend goes "did u take anything??????" - the guy replies "nope" and just keeps walking - all this happened when there was a police station just down the road. Now thats dodgey i tells ya :ninja:

You want to get close to the city with public transport you need to head into the inner east. Good suburbs with a good transport system and its relatively cheap... but a budget would help

i would recermend the northen suburbs, something like bundoora as it got public transport and is close to the western ring road. and is a growing suburb soshould be cheap.

good luck mate

and oh yea stay away from the eastern suburbs (my advice) cops dont like modefyed cars or young kids (myopinion) over thier. (noble park riots)

Bundoora is okay, but your starting to move closer to the shit suburbs like Lalor and Reservoir. I know that area well and i wouldnt be moving there anytime soon... especially if i had a nice car

LOL @ lalor and reservoir...

what about western suburbs? no sunshine...no deer park... no st albans.. oh f**k no western suburbs lol

yarraville, seddon, footscray... they is good :P

Another thing to consider is the availability of rentals, me and the missus ar elooking for a new place at the moment, and the inner city has f - all rentals, aside from schmucklands which are all shoeboxes. Not sure on the outer suburbs and how they go? Like what's been said tho, I play footy out in the western suburbs, then get out as soon as I can, you couldn't pay me to live out there!! North, or east would be the go. Get a look at a melways somehow and get yourself near a train or tram stop, publis transport can be real handy, esp later at night!!!

at the moment i'm not really sure on my budget ect.

to explain it more,

I have worked for John Bowe and have bneen mates with him for the past 4 years. I have been stuck in a low paying, abusive job for the same amount of time (met him through work as i work in a ford dealership) he has helped out on my resume and is even a referee for me. Currently i also work for 3 companies unpaid and can work up to 18hrs a day. I have been applying for jobs for around 12 months and not even getting any interviews, which i find odd as i am applying for everything including general retail work.

he has now said to me that i need to get out of adelaide and move to melbourne if i want a job as he has contacts in the motor / motorsport industry over there.

i am still undecided on whether i want to move ( i really like melbourne) but as its my best opportunity to get a job and life i am strongly considering it.

i am still waiting to hear more about the work he has proposed before 100% confirming a move

yeaa AI... fookray roks! :D

anyone says nefin bout fookray i'll beat your bitch ass :D

EDIT: seriously dude... if you wana just start off look in footscray...

benefits of footscray are...

2 train stops to city... i.e. < 10mins

drug problem has dropped f*kin heaps from like 10yrs ago and its only getting better :(

apartments/units arn't expensive (considering alot of people come here to start new lives... from o/s etc.)

people are friendly.. (anyone says oh asians n africans... its the f*king bogans that are the cockheads!!)

its close to EVERYTHING except mt waverly :) f**k i hated working there....

its an outer city suburb and its quiet considering how close to the city it actually is...

theres heappps of factories around the laverton area if thats what sort of job your after... heaps of motor vehicle places aswell... if you have the expertise its good... unless your a tradie go to queensland & make some $$... 4 of my mates are moving there for a bit to make some cash from the tradie shortage "supposed"

dude its a start.... i was born n raised in footscray... and i never wana move :(

if you need more help pm me... more than happy to assist

what about broadmeadows? i don't know why everyone makes it out to be so bad i lived there for over 3 years and loved it, everything we needed was close by etc. never had any problems there. meh...

i think there was someone here looking for a flatmate can't remember who it was in the preston area though...?

but yeah north western suburbs ftw! :D

You guys are a bunch of weak sauce muppets :D

Ooooh........the west is bad, i'm scared.................

Lived here for 25+yrs and have never had any issues.

If I had the choice of mugging you, I also wouldnt bother you!

I vote for Port Melbourne where I live. It is a 15 min walk to the tram and a 15 min ride to the city. Bay St with all the shops is less than 5 mins away and everyone is mid twenties. Plenty of nice people and the beach is 2 blocks away. Lots of pubs and a cab ride the city won't kill you if you do need it.

We own our place but rental would be typically $300pw for a 2 bed apartment I reckon.

Melbourne is a great place so you won't go wrong moving here. Other suburbs mentioned are nice but if you are looking for CBD work, the commute would drive me stir crazy!

f**kin Amen! 22+ years for me, and when I buy a house, it will most likely be in the west aswell.

For the wimps that always winge about the west, there are some REALLY scummy suburbs over your side too, don't forget. I can name heaps.

i like melbourne i have only been to melbourne once acouple of years back when i went over for the Sandown 500.

however when i came over i ony had acouple of days and after doing some shopping i didn't really get out of the CBD. The public transport over there is a lot better than here, i never catch any public transport here but was riding the trains, trams everywhere there

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
