that's a good point. but I bought the following:

a set of 34 brakes (included 4 X calipers, 4 X rotors, all pads, all brake lines).

out of that I'm going to throw out the lines (re-use my 32 GTR nismo lines), throw out the brembo pads (switch to something more suitable for me), and machine the rotors (they are about 50% worn).

and I needed 4 heli-coils (bought a pack of 10 for $15).

and I bought a 33 GTR master which cost around $120.

now an AP or Brembo front and rear kit for 32 GTR is up around the $8000-$10000 mark depending on which particular caliper and what size rotor you want. It will be better, no doubt about it. But so far I have only spent less than a third of that $$$. and that includes

savman, the 33 master I bought second hand. Think it cost me around $120.

good point :) but you seems to get all your parts from japan surely you could have found a cheap ap racing kit over there lol

Hey Beer Baron, i was hoping you could help me out?

Im looking at putting R34 GTR Brembos on the rear of my R33, what needs to get them to fit? are they like the front and need the 14 to 12mm bolts?

And where did you see them? (yahoo auctions??)

Cheers Michael

btw, one trap I fell into. it seems the R34 holes are 14X1.5 NOT 14X1.25... d'oh.

can anyone tell me off the top of their head is the R32 bolts 12X1.25 or 12X1.5?

12x1.25 richard.

So there is obviously 1 difference between the 33 and 34 brembos, the 33 ones come with 12mm bolts not 14 they went straight on our car once we removed the backing plates.

But I haev exactly the same problem putting my old gtr brakes (12mm thread) onto the volvo to replace the crappy silvia single piston calipers - the volvo has 14mm like the 34 so I need to drill and tap out the gtr calipers to take a 14mm bolt too. I need to check if there are x1.25 or x1.5 before I tap it now I guess lol

Dave I'm sure you're right about the helicoil working but it scared the crap out of me on brake bolts......

thanks duncan. that's what f**ked me. trying to stick a 1.25 pitch heli-coil into a 1.5 pitch hole (well i had run the 1.25 tap through but it didn't remove all the old thread).

duncan, if you want to put the 12mm bolt calipers on a 14mm hub, check one of my posts earlier in this thread. you can buy a kit with 12mm bolts and small sleeves so no need to convert the calipers or the hub.

Ps, I was at nathans the other day and picked up some nice cheap 33 brembos. i told nathan to tell you thanks... all jokes aside I had a look at your bremos sitting there and they are definately a coarser thread than 1.25. it looked like 1.5 or even 1.75.

lol at least they are still there - I figured it was time they got rebuilt they have had a hard life....

I don't get yahoo japan....where can I get some of those bolts - do you know who makes em or if someone imports em?

Or I might talk to nath about machining up the sleeves here, the right bolts are easy enough to get.

Hmm look like 12mm bolts with a sleeve to me... Have you taken that picture to coventry to see if you can get something off the shelf?

^^^^maybe try there Duncan

Could someone tell me if the rear calipers of a R34 Vspec11 bolt on to a R32 Gtr?

I know they run a bigger rear disc but I dont know if the caliper has a different PCD..

Thanks

(dont mean to take over your thread Barron but it is sort of related )

well a little update.

I bit the bullet and got some timesert steel inserts put into my 34 brembo front calipers. and I can confirm 100% the thread on 32 GTR bolts is 12X1.25 and 34 brembos are 14X1.5. The steel inserts are a good idea. much stronger than helicoils and probably even better than the original thread cut out of the alloy. now I just need to get my discs back so I can put them on >_<

Reviving an old thread here, but can anyone confirm this statement with regards to vspec2 brembos?:

Duncan Posted 3 Jun 2007, 08:26 PM

"the calipers and rotors bolt straight on to the 32"

Reason being I read on gtr.co.uk that the late model r34 gtr's (which im assuming a vspec2 is late enough of a model) have rear brakes that are the same as 350z ones, which dont fit?

I'm pretty certain beer baron mentions a difference in the DBA rotor cracking thread. Found it. Page 5 if it doesn't link straight there

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
