a new paint job?

hard to say really, the amount of money you put into mods your not gonna make it back when you re-sell it. your lucky if you just break even. thats why everyone takes em off and sell them seperately. also the amount of cars now for sale already have mods so the next thing if not first for people to compare is overall condition of car and engine.

Adding performance mods won't really increase value, well, at least not in a way that'll make a profit. The money you spend on the mod will not be recovered.

The reason being that people want to buy a car that has not been thrashed..... Usually because they want to be the one to thrash it.

If you're looking at increasing the value of the car, you can either make it more pristine, or you can go the dodgy and cover up faults.

You may get the money back on highflowing the turbo, because people generally don't like ceramic turbos, and it's only about 1.5K

other than that, replacing the leather boots and tidying up the interior will add value, also any body rust that can be removed.

It's really only neatening up, not really modding.

Having said all that, it's really depending on what people are willing to pay.

Only if its in the factory colour, or you strip the car down and get everything painted (and even then you won't make a profit on it since that kind of paint job is going to cost you a fortune).

Otherwise, if potential buyers find the exterior paint a different colour to the interior paint (like the door sills, engine bay, etc) they'll assume its been resprayed due to an accident repair....and there goes your resale value.

I'm just wondering what parts or modifications can add value to the car?

A history. Some people will pay well over market for a car that's been owned by someone famous or something.

Or if the car becomes a cult classic. Look at the Takumi tax on AE86s - ever since Initial D came out the price for those nuggets have skyrocketed. Same with classic cars like MGBs, or old Monaros, XY GT Falcons, etc.

Aside from that, you've got buckleys of improving resale on a vehicle.

Simple rule when it comes to cars. Any money you spend on upgrading them is essentially lost money. So unless you do all the work yourself fitting up whatever you will certainly lose money.

Best bet is to get it clean & neat. If you have to spend a few hundred dollars on panel & paint then so be it. Beyond that & fixing any glaring faults, just leave it alone. That is pretty much what the car yards do - which tells you all you need to know.

    • Welcome back mate ,I also joined in the early 2000's , since then I have been in and out a few times depending if I had a skyline in the garage.  I have the another one now , so signed up and back with the SAU team.
    • I used "different strokes for different folks" quite pointedly as honestly, there is no wrong when it comes to choosing what you like.  I always day dreamed about flappy paddles with fast shifts in a sporty RWD Turbo and to me the sound and feel of it cutting through gears in a steady stream is exciting, engaging, and keeps the car better balanced - I *also* like h-patterns, but I find them more engaging and fun in a nice hoonable peaky NA thing.  Type-R Integra/old school NA rotary, things that are raw and need all the rpm where picking the gear and getting it sky high is part of the engagement of the whole thing despite the fact that they probably need closer ratios and faster shifts even more than a 3l turbo thing haha
    • If I wasn't allowed or really had the desire to visit China it would probably fit in my carry on, but I have no desire, Japan would be nice during Cherry Blossom time though I might need to chat to Jackie about that, that should actually be an easy conversation though as she is currently talking about another cruise, cruise ship to Japan, a week in Japan to see the sights, then cruise home I may even be able to find those OEM NC Recaro seats over there that I cannot find here 馃
    • What do you mean?  In between the two I shared?  They're the same boost   This will be insane.   A mate has a GTSt with a 9:1 RB30/25 with Tomei 256 cams and a Borg S362SX-E that is already a beast from the basement but has a stock 5 speed and will probably get a ZF8 one day.  After the G35 900 RB26 setup I'd be lying if the topic of "Wtf would a divided G35 be like on this thing?" idea hadn't come up - you'd definitely want a wide boost control range setup with it, as even with the less responsive and potent S361 we're having to ramp boost in from very low levels in the early gears.
    • ZF8 is faster, wider ratio spread, better in every way. I do not dispute this. But I have brain damage and I want the feeling of shifting gears. To me the extra work is fun, but I daily an automatic and in the US like 90+% of cars are automatic so a manual transmission is an "exotic" experience. If I want an automatic I've driven an F80 M3 with DCT more than a few times and it's incredibly capable but it's emotionally vacant to me.
