bought a 180 with the front smashed in witch we will be converting to a sil80 and dropping an RB into.

some people believe that they can be a bit front heavy for drift but gonna give it a crack anyways.

it will have FMIC, pod and probably bigger fuel pump. and will be running higher boost on stock turbo (about 12 - 14 pound)

will be getting coil overs and strut braces as well.

how do you recon it will handle and what sort of power do u recon i would get???

My drift car is a Onevia with a Rb20 in it and a RB25 box.

Completely stripped interior just a RB25 highflow, remap, 3" exhaust, front mount, Tein coil overs, welded diff and a 5 puk button clutch. :)

No problems drifting whatsoever.

Do it and have fun :P

The Cefiro cross member is the best to use as it will sit the engine a couple of cm lower then when using a R32 GTST cross member.

Just get your suspension sorted out and it will be easy to throw around.

A 1 piece tail shaft is fine and most big truck shops like Gibbs can make you one up relatively cheaply.

I think what people are trying to tell you is how much effort and cash is needed to make it a reality . A long heavy motor thats no torque mountain in std form - for drift . No competitive engine is going to be cheap regardless of if its in the car or on the floor . I think you'll find in this day and age more factory and aftermarket goodies for SR20's than RB20's which means greater availibility and lower cost for the right bits . I can partly understand why in the US there is this S13/RB20 craze - no R32/33/34's or SR20DET USDM cars . If they'd had the R32GTST they wouldn't bother converting S13's . When you can have 400 ft/lbs of torque from a half serious SR20 at 4500 rpm why would you plonk an RB20 into it ?

One more time , said this last time .

Search FreshAlloy.com Forums - Twin scroll question .

Cheers .

Putting a RB20 makes zero sense.

...except they are cheaper, stronger and possibly make the same/more power. Im yet to be convinced that a std SR20 can make the power and response a sorted RB20 can. I think its more to do with the fact that there are so many ppl spending money on SR20s its easy to find a good one. The same cant be said for RB20.

They arent the best engine. But if dollars are tight then i think the RB20 should be on the radar.

...except they are cheaper, stronger and possibly make the same/more power.

id say that is more a tuner fault, SR's are far more det prone than rb20s for sure and 90% of sr's failures are ring land and the rest are big end...... due to det. i have only ever lost one SR and it was a dodgy HKS injector that stopped working.... killed number 3.

sure they are cheaper but by the time its installed 2500 goes quite a way to making pwr on the sr. if it is NA to start with then yes probaly makes sense.

i see SR packages from 1500 regulary you just need to look.

as slide said im using r32 gtst cross member and i needed to lift the bonnet a bit to fit the engine under it

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
