Hi all

Just thought id post up for thoes of you whom are aware of what was going on with me or anyone wishing to know, I have concluded my activities in the brisbane magistrates courts today with the return to me of my lisence, the overturning of my suspension and the full restoration of all my points.

In total I was suspended from driving for aproximatly 14 hours.

The charge was failure to give way when entering the road from a road related area, 3 points, $105

The suspension was for accumulation of demerit points while driving on a good behaviour bond.

Other fee's included $170 in legal advice which was 100% useless, they told me I couldnt, wouldnt, win, unless I hired them. Damn lawyers, the judge told me in court today that he hopes I have fired them.

Thanks

Ian

i was once told i needed to plead guilty by my lawyer for speed, represented myself and walked away free

Ahhh nah some lawers i swear they get their 100 bucks and they tell you thier "legal advice" and when you toddle off to the court thier laughing in thier wads of cash that they got money from telling you completely stupid legal advice.

I dunno if i were in the same situation that ian was id do the same, i might go for legal advice, but in the end the best thing to do is go with your gut feeling then you wont regret it as much.

Congrats.

Watch for them now... once they black list your plates you'll forever get bothered by them.

Luckily I haven't been black listed, sure I've had tickets, some I didn't agree with but I paid the fine and took it for the sake of avoiding courts until I really need it.

Good luck, and maybe you should look into another set of plates, just goto the transport department and get replacements, will help the whole spot you on sight, unless they do a plate check :)

I was in the extact situation last year accumulation of demerit points while driving on a good behaviour period, i hired a lawyer cost me $990 they did my affidavit etc represented me in court, the judge read through my affidavit typed up by my lawyer showing hardship caused if i lost my license.I had a lady judge she basically looks at my driving history and said it wasnt to bad, but the affidavit didnt have good enough reasons showing hardship but my lawyer explained more in detail that i needed my license back etc etc, at the end i ended up getting it back restarting my good behavior period. I think i was lucky 2 people who went before me in the court room both had lawyers with them didnt get theres back, but one of them has being in there for the second time so that was probabaly why he didnt get it back. So at the end of the day it was worth the money hiring a decent lawyer if you got the money.

Well thats good news there Ian... :D

I guess just put that money to "charma" the lawyer will get his own one day :D

Anyways, makes me pat my head and think there is a dollar to be made in all this... Hummm

Anyone who wants useless legal info please donate $100 to "Happy Dude law advice" care of Col and ill supply you with the most pointless info that will give you no help at all. Look at it like your giving the money to the devil you know :D

It came down to a few things, I had a string of good luck, the guys before me had 5 and 6 page traffic histories, I had half a page and they were well spaced out, I had done advanced driver training with a recognized school and the offence wasnt for speeding or hooning - additionally I rocked up early, I was dressed properly, neatly and profesionally, whereas alot of the younger blokes there were not (man you should of seen what they were wearing)

I typed up a pretty profesional affidavit myself as well, and I had photos of the location of the offence and was able to sucessfully argue against the lawyer(Im not sure if he really was a lawyer) representing QLD Transport with these. There were a few other things I argued but id prefer to keep some details private.

My car will not be blacklisted, This happened around 8 months ago and was in my last car.

MFC05, I will speak to you more about it on MSN as per your PM dude.

I once hired I legal guy, then fired his useless butt in front of the judge,

walked out with a very small fine. I then got a 'court appearence bill' from the fired legal help.

I wrote back and said, 'I'm an old fashioned guy, i beleive, a hard days work gets a hard days pay.'

I sent him $20. he never wrote back!

Stand your ground. Its your life, show some pride..

stick it to em!

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
