Sandown Sprints This Sunday - June 10th - Driver Training Only $90!

Recommended Posts

Ferni...I remember from the last round and the vid that jack posted up that he had his IR receiver on the passenger side door which would suggest that the transmitter is on the other side.

I had left the transmitter on that side from the previous track day (Winton), so leaving it pointed towards the infield resulted in no times.. After the next session I changed it to the drivers side and then it worked.... :/

Haha, gotta pay that.. . . it's totally Valid!

My car is broken though. (will be going wednesday I hope, shall report on stainless exhaust manifold's usefulness)

How's the Commondore trukin' on Budge? I've got a VH awaiting V6 transplant completion in the backyard.. . . :/

It's going ok, but like anything you tend to measure it on what you want to do not what you've already done.

So in that case I have a long way to go :)

Suspension... Brakes... Exhaust leaks... Oil leaks... :/

There you go Anthony :/

Awesome Snowie....if you can do mine at the same time that would be great....just let me know when and where :P

Ferni....I didn't have a close look....if thats the case why can't we set one up on the drivers side of the circuit and just run the IR receiver to point through the drivers side window?

Just read Snowie's and your post. If you want me to have a look at the possibility of extending the cable, just let me know. And if the device is rated to 12V, it would be easy to hook it up to your cigarette lighter. Even the 6V devices would be simple to convert to 12V

Well Suspension & Brakes get fixed by stripping weight.. . . not sure where from tho, the ol' Commo's already fairly light!

Exhaust leaks need pipe & welder, and the oil leaks are standard fitment on all pre-1990 commodores ! ! :sorcerer:

hmmm.. . . wanna take a gas-axe & gut the rear door frames? fit some 1mm lexan for side windows, dodgey carbon/Fglass bonnet&bootlid, ummm, You've stripped the dash already, haven't U??? geeez, I'm running out of ideas ! :(

After that, U gotta get craazzzzy. . . Maybe replace the entire floorpan with space-frame tubes & alloy sheet? ? :woot:

Ahhhh damn it i wish i didnt have exams like a day after, otherwise id be in (soft i know).

I want to give it a go being timed, seeing as i wasnt allowed last time :P

Goodluck to all, but especially do-luck and thebuzz, previously DT last time!

Im in come august tho.

Thanks Al. The cable we are talking about is the one between the unit and the IR reciever not the power one. It sounds like Snowie might have a fix as well as the fact it sounds like we don't need it for the next round, but if anything changes I'll be in touch :worship:

Hmmm....looks like i will be doing this day with the same bruised and hammered tyres and nursing the little brake pad i have left. Maybe only get two or three sessions...but that will do me. Resprayed bar and repaired bodywork is going to cost me more then i had hoped...and likely to get a bit of carbon gayness to go on as well.

We have now secured a guy to run the timing using transponders in the cars and the loop in the track.

This may take a little extra time in the morning to fit the transponders into the cars so please get there as early as you can for scruiteneering etc..

Yay...

Trent you can bring any car down. Cats car would be fine on the condition it doesn't breach the noise limits (but it'd have to be LOUD to do that)

sweet, i better get may ass into gear and send in my membership.... i paid a month ago but forgot to send my details in :worship:

best thing is we can drive there.... 2 whole blocks.

Yep, i knew which cable you were refering too.

I mentioned the power, as it sounds like the units are ment to be portable (ie:runs only on batteries), and i was refering to modifying the units to run on your cig. lighter.

Hmmm. Its kind of annoying knowing theres a track day coming up some times. I know how the car went last time and I don't think I can beat it atm but I really want a 1.23. It just sits on my mind until the day but can't wait. Should be fun!

Bris. Don't fix the body work. Just make it go faster. Isn't that your first priority? Be a real race car driver  There's a 1.20 in it isn't there with good tyres, brakes and no traffic?

I know what you mean, i wouldnt be surprised if i cant get the same time as i did last time out. Worse tyres and pads and i am probably a little gunshy after the accident. Will have to see how comfortable i am in the car. Its important that i am confident as if i get freaked out by how much it moves around i will end up being slow. !:22s are the target...but will be over the moon with a 1:21.9

As for the 1:20. LOL...i wish. Hey, anything is possible. But i doubt i could do that time with the current suspension and brakes. It also depends on the boost Ben has the car set at. its set at the "should be right" level at the moment. I have no idea if that 260, 230rwkws or the boost thats in it until i get my data logger back. If im already running 19psi and 260rwkws then im not going to get much more out of it engine wise. Though there is a guy in WA on a std RB20 making 285rwkws at 23psi  Yeh shits and giggles. Would love to be able to get new tyres, pads and brakes sorted...but dont think i will bother until the new shocks arrive.

The Jinx is Broken! :PBJ: :PBJ: :PBJ: :PBJ: :PBJ: :PBJ: :PBJ:

I finally got through my 1st full track day since Oct 05 down at PI yesterday without drama's (well except for a cooler pipe in one session). And boy does it feel great to be back.

So Sandown here we come! :P

    • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
