Hi guys,

I am just about to rebuild my Rb26 from my r32 gtr and i am just getting prices and considering other brands.

If there is anything else i need please let me know.

What i have in mind so far,

CP piston

Includes rings, pins, locks

Eagle RB25/26 H-beam Conrods

ARP 2000 bolts

ACL

Gasket set

Conrod bearings

Main bearings

And i intend on upgrading my oil pump at the same time, Not sure what else i will need from a 93 rb26?

N1 Oil pump

Jun Crank collar

I was also woundering how much power the standard crank and block can take?

Reason for rebuilding is my current compression,

is as follows,

Cyl 1 138psi

Cyl 2 140psi

Cyl 3 15psi (no typo)

Cyl 4 140psi

Cyl 5 190psi (with oil in cyl)

Cyl 6 138psi

All readings are with an egine that hasn't been driven in a few weeks with the exception of Cyl 5 that had some oil placed in the chamber to see what the compression would be like.

Ok questions to begin

What power are you aiming for?

What turbos are being used?

Who is doing the build, have they builts RB's before?

Whats the intended use for the car?

Why not just purchase a new crank? $1100, cant go wrong.

Not aiming high hp yet the engine will have stock heads.

its got hks turbos ATM not sure of type.

I am just making sure i have all the (major) parts i need.

So you intend to aim for big power (400rwkw+) or not?

Cause you dont really need rods if thats the case, undue expense that can be put somewhere else :)

Whos doing the build? Thats a crucial part as building a decent long lasting RB isnt that easy.

as far as power i will be looking (in time) for the 1000hp fly wheel power, Thus the rods. So i am woundering how much the crank can take reliably?

For now i will just have standard cams and heads so i am not expecting much. 3 to 400 rwkw would be nice

haha i remmeber thinking i "must" have 350rwkw (FD3s) when i got it..... i wished i had what i had before i started.... 300.... too much power is more a pin in the ass than it is fun... shit is forever breaking.. power will always be pub talk and pub talk always raises the bar higher and higher :)

back in my day my old v8 clunker with 280rwkw was a weapon now i do a quick edit on a stockie and pull this :( but 400rwkw.... f**k me where do you drive such an animal and what would you use it for?

The only thing that makes an engine bullet proof is tuning and engine monitoring. You can have all the best internals in the world.(and there is no way what you have posted would go near supporting 650rwkws) and an engine die a sad death because it was poorly tuned. Or the minute it htis boost the oil temps go through the roof, ditto the coolant temps. Ditto the loads through the gearbox and driveshafts. Not to mention the shear volume of air your engine needs to flow at that power, meaning you will need a big high flowing intercooler and a well thought out exhaust system... You are talking major engineering work for the car to work well as a whole

So getting back to your "happy with 400rwkws", provided you have a solid foundation then it is achievable. But be careful, not many places you can actually enjoy such a powerful Skyline...and just be sure you have oil temp and coolant temp under control for basics. But ensure you have sufficient oil flow and pressure in the engine. Ensure you have good fuel supply, and robust. Nothing like a faulty/clogged injector that kills and engine. Ditto a fuel pump that doesnt get lazy at the flow you require.

Sit down and have a serious conversation with an owner of a 400rwkws GTR, i think you will be surprised its nto as easy or cheap as many think

I will be happy with around 250awkw's, if money permits building a bigger motor later i might do that.

Seriously, what is it, 250kw, 400kw, or 1000 Flywheel HP? - There are massive differences in these setups.

If you intend to be able to produce 1000 HP down the line, then you need to build the motor correctly now, or be prepared to build it again later. I would suggest sourcing an N1 block as the base if you are *really* going to be chasing such HP levels.

There are a number of areas you haven't mentioned yet that are going to need attention

- Injectors & Fuel system?

- Camshafts?

- Sump/baffle setup

- Headwork?

Basically, for anyone to properly advise you of what you do and don't need, you need to more accurately identify what power you are going to chase from the get go

Short answer, yes - You will need a new pump and for high horsepower reliability I would be looking at a JUN or equivilent pump.

Theres another $1200 + right there.

Agreed.

First 1000hp @ the fly, then 300-400rwkw, and now 250rwkw.

All different costs, all different builds, all require different responses.

You should listen to some of these guys as they are giving you good advice. 1000hp is a rediculous amount of power, and you'd be throwing well in excess of $50k at it initally to do it properly without on going running costs etc

400rwkw is a boat load of power for a street car that sees track use occasionally.

Ditch the N1 oil pump, they are shit at high power levels and get a JUN item like has been recommended above, also fork out the money and get a crank while your at it and the engine is apart. For the added cost forget a sump baffle kit and go for a sump extension.

    • To expand on this to help understanding... The bigger/longer the block is, the more it's going to work to sit on your far away high areas, and not touch the low stuff in the middle. When you throw the guide coat, and give it a quick go with a big block, guide coat will disappear in the high spots. If those high spots are in the correct position where the panel should be, stop sanding, and fill the low spots. However, using a small block, you "fall off" one of the high spots, and now your sanding the "side of the hill". Your little block would have been great for the stone chips, where you only use a very small amount of filler, so you're sanding and area let's say the size of a 5/10cent piece, with something that is 75*150. For the big panel, go bigger!   And now I'll go back to my "body work sucks, it takes too much patience, and I don't have it" PS, I thought your picture with coloured circles was an ultra sound... That's after my brain thought you were trying to make a dick and balls drawing...
    • Oh I probably didn't speak enough about the small sanding block for blocking large areas.  In the video about 3 minutes in, he talks about creating valleys in the panel. This is the issue with using a small sanding block for a large area, it's way too easy to create the valleys he is talking about. With a large block its much easier to create a nice flat surface.  Hard to explain but in practice you'll notice the difference straight away using the large block. 
    • Yep I guessed as much. You'll find life much easier with a large block something like this -  https://wholesalepaint.com.au/products/dura-block-long-hook-loop-sanding-block-100-eva-rubber-af4437 This is a good demo video of something like this in use -    You have turned your small rock chip holes into large low spots. You'll need to fill and block these low spots.  It's always a little hard not seeing it in person, but yes I would go ahead and lay filler over the whole area. Have a good look at the video I linked, it's a very good example of all the things you're doing. They went to bare metal, they are using guide coat, they are doing a skim coat with the filler and blocking it back. If what you're doing doesn't look like what they are doing, that's a big hint for you  
    • The odometer does go up when driving.  Does this tell it is an issue with the speedometer itself?    Where can I look for replacement cluster? Or speedo? I can likely do the repair.. Will ER34 cluster work on HR34? Or do I need a HR34 20GT S2 specifically lol   
    • Mine's a bit bigger at 70x150mm roughly. The spots are flat, just can feel the edges if I dig my nail into it. I did fix some other other ones by both using my finger to sand that small spot (I'm a bit wary of doing this and creating hot spots and a bigger mess) and I also did sand over it flat and others, but this also worried me a bit because if I create an overall low spot on the panel on paint that is good.  Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as it's flat even if I can feel the edges, I can put filler because it will all be level once I sand it? I can see myself going in a circle after sanding guidecoat with 320 grit if for example the panel is flat with my hand but because I sanded the guidecoat I could have created a low spot again somewhere. Unless where I'm going wrong is what I mentioned previously where I didn't go low enough on the grits. It's 1 step forward and 2 step backwards here haha. I'll probably need to experiment with it more. Last time I go back to bare metal lol.
