Geez I need to read these forums more often.

Ill begin with a big LOL.

Anyhow...

Chi im amazed you bought an engine based on someones word. I dont care how "cool" he is to SAUWA, he doesnt know what compression his motor posseses, and you have just believed what he told you. Id get my own test done ASAP! Especially when you payed good money for that motor... im stunned you bought it on word alone.

You then fitted this motor to a car without an oil change.... WTF! If you did an oil change, how the hell did the change happen... guesstimation? "shell be right, thats a full tub of oil in it"

Still doesnt answer what happened to the dipstick.. dont think Nissan did any limited edition R33 GTST Dipstickless models? It was obviously there when the motor came out to get built... so where did it go?

Broke it, and tight-assed and didnt buy another? Forgot? Borrowed and not returned?

AD4M, im sure you can fill me in on the bits you know.

I look forward to the giggle.

some very sound advice here. I would be getting a compression and leakdowns tests done asap. never listen to the person selling to the motor as to how good it is. of course they are going to say it's good.

and always change the oil before you start using a new motor.

i did change the oil when i first got the car, i poured around 4.5L or oil into it....mmm i will get the compression test done this week, and i will get the dipstick thing unblocked...i just hope mitchy and kylie didn't lie to me about the compression :? because TJ is right i did pay good money for the motor...so yeah will get tests done this week

Cheers

i bet your wishing you paid that extra lil bit of money for the motor that was lined up for you in the first place now... wouldnt have had any of these issues which is now going to cost you alot more to rectify

sure do AD4M...but it may not be dodgy compression? etc...so i gotta get it checked out still i just hope mitchy would lend me a hand if there is something wrong with the engine...but atm i see there is nothign wrong with it until then i can only do a compression test on it.

Cheers

If you have a rooted motor, and you only find out its rooted 2 months after purchase, your screwed anyhow dude.

How are you going to prove it was rooted when you bought it? Especially if its been running aftermarket turbo... and i presume ecu injectors etc.

Your not.... so pray that it isnt screwed, and for crying out loud, go buy a dipstick assembly from Nissan asap. It wont be that expensive.

Weirdest thread of the year, in this section at least.

I agree 100%..

I have lebo friends who are less dodgy than this!

uleh? rofl

This thread is a crack up. I have a spare dipstick assembly, but the Dipstick handle is cracked. Definately usable though.

car is pretty much stock just gota fmic and a pod, still stock 25 turbo and stock injectors ecu etc

mmm so if my rings for my pistons were gone it would blow smoke out right from the exhaust? oh well guys mitchy has stepped out and confirmed that my engine has 165 compression for all 6 cylinders then the engine should be fine....im goin to go remove the stud and fit a dip stick in there problem solved thanks guys for ur support sorry to create a thread that was kidna like days of our lifes :D

You didn't ask a thing about the motor chi.....Had you inspected the motor prior to purchasing it, you would of seen that it had no dipstick. Even I picked that up... You were told there was no dipstick, you were told that there was a stuffed turbo 'sitting' (NOT BOLTED) onto the motor and were given a good turbo separately. You didn't pay for the stuffed turbo you're trying to flog for $300-$200...

has there been an explanation as to why the no dip stick?

There was no dipstick when Mitchy bought the motor, that is why he got the compression test and leak down test done!

no there has not been an explantion for the lack of dip stick from the previous owner of the engine and no i havne't had it tested myself...

Cheers

Chi

NO explaination because you've never asked, and we don't know why either... only that it was built by Ray Ferrari (look him up and ask him yourself)

Mitchy does know what compression his motor possessed...as said earlier, he got it done because he had no dipstick.

Can you please not post when you don't know what you're talking about... As Michael stated its a stock motor running stock turbo ecu.

Look, instead of farking wasting time waiting for people to speculate, TAKE THE CAR TO A COMPETENT MECHANIC AND GET HIM/HER TO SORT IT OUT.

FFS

Agreed! And advised he did this how long ago Chi?? 2-3 months now. Left it a bit late I think!

I know you only came here to ask why do people block off dipsticks, you were given the answer, you've been given the guys name who built the motor, call him and ask him. While you're talking to him, ask him if he can do a leak down test for you... but as you've left it way too late, there is no liability that lies with Mitchy anymore. Mitchy is a trusting person to buy from. His trader rating shows that. The motor was running perfectly before being rear ended. No reason why it would be stuffed now unless you ran the stuffed turbo on the motor with no gaskets, no copper washers, and no oil.

Kylie....i was not told there was no dipstick...i am well aware that i was not told....it doesn't matter now....if it was in good condition when mitchy got rear ended then good....ill go get some tests done etc...im sure mitchy's a honest trader im not saying his dishonest etc etc....im not trying to make it hard for yous....just tryign to ask why tehre is no dip stick but now its all good i will get the dip stick plug knocked out and run a dip stick thank you..and also how did u check ur oils kylie ? answer that question ? lol cause every time i bloody check the oil its just drop the oil and go from there.

Cheers

Chi

What we know is that the dipstick was taken out at some stage and replaced with a bolt. This is likely to be before the rebuild took place and the reason why the rebuild was done. The person that did the rebuild probably forgot to give the mechanic the dipstick and when they got it back did not put the dipstick back in. We know that after the build was done a compression test was taken out which turned out fine. If oil changes are performed regularly and the motor is fresh then the chances of the oil level dropping between services is minimal.

I think you have a perfectly good engine, however you just need to get the bolt out and a dipstick back in.

    • Keeping in mind that I am currently getting flat 10 L/100km on my RB25DET, which means >>500km/tank. I would test this car for vacuum leaks, check codes and AFM signal with NissDataScan as D says, check plugs, do a compression check while they are out.
    • It is hard to be specific half way across the world...but it *seems* like it might have a minor issue. Is the idle stable and does it rev smoothly? I would not expect any pops out of what I am assuming is a standard ECU, standard tune, standard exhaust. You can use Nissan Data Scan to find out exactly what is happening when it runs, the cable/software is reasonably affordable if you are not planning on changing the ECU (which hopefully you are not with an NA skyline) BTW your mileage may not be that far off, these are heavy old tech cars, and being NA might mean you use a heavy foot to keep up with traffic....
    • Hey guys! Y'all are the masters so figured I'd check in on a few items here. - My engine sounds ever-so-slightly more raspy than the other NA RB25s I've listened to. It's barely noticeable but definitely a slightly different sound. - When I back off the throttle at high RPM, I will sometimes get a pop out of the exhaust, assuming this can be diagnosed as misfire. Some history on the car: - Had an exhaust leak in auction sheet but was claimed to be fixed by seller (bought from USA importer).  - Car's coil packs and sparks were replaced when it was sold to me, but unsure on what the gap is and whether the coil packs are correct.  - A prior mechanic had misdiagnosed a pilot or throwout bearing sound as LSPI/detonation. Had played with timing a bit, pops/raspy sound of engine just got worse. Got timing reset. - Had failed emissions a few times. First time went in as is, failed. Second time, replaced cat, still failed, running rich as hell. Third time replaced o2 sensor, passed. Car still smells gassy though. - Timing belt and valve cover gasket also replaced.  - Gas mileage is... low. about 350-400K per tank.  Any idea if I'm having any serious issues here or does this all sound like normal old NA RB stuff and I'm fine to drive it with the pops/slightly raspy engine? If it'll help, I can get drop a video of the sound of the engine.
    • So....to find any R chassis part number, get your VIN (will be something like ER33-xxxxxx for you) and go to: https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan and enter it. From there you have access to a web version of Nissan's part system, FAST. It is a bit tricky to get used to, so maybe have a shot and post up what you think.  You can also search by general model but note in some cases your car might have different options so VIN is safest.  On diagram 211 I got 14075-75T16 for Connector, Water Hose If I search for part 14053‑21U10 that you posted, that is also a water hose but not the one bolted to the plenum and 14075‑04U00 is the fitting where the water hose goes into the block.
    • Yeah now we are talking I much prefer coolers in the front middle because it lessens the chance of a small bump to a corner stopping the whole event. I was thinking the AT cooler can move out of the radiator, delete the AT/engine coolant interwarmer and mount a separate cooler with a thermoswitch somewhere further back as is common in racing, that would be one thing. Beyond that, the engine oil cooler is an obvious one to move to the wheel arch, potentially one on each side, but unused space is an issue. I did have a earlier pic with the bumper off but it doesn't show how busy the corners are: DS is full of the auto driving sensors and PS is totally fully of windscreen washer fluid reservoir But ultimately I was hoping to keep the AC, and the water/air heat exchanger is fundamental so it is not just the radiator that needs to be in front BTW here's airflow to the rad as it ran at the track (one horn is gone now and I'll remove the lights next time):
