Chris,,,your as bad as Duncan,,,he wants me out again this weekend but I'm happy just to go over the car and get it ready for this years racing. Can't wait for the SAU day though. I did give it a run before christmas (Santa said I could)so that will do till late February.

Baron Baby,,,It won't be as quick in a straight line as the rotor infact I fully expect modded gtr's to be gobbling me up. But under brakes and the corner grip of this car is unbeleivable,,,like nothing I have ever experienced. Coupled with a straight cut gear box and sequential shifter it will be very quick, just hope I am. Oh and as an added bonus it has a flat shift kit fitted. I'm keeping the sports sedan and will build it as time permits. I love that car.

Ben,,,funny you say that,,,I work with a bunch of bike nuts and yes S & R is on my "to speak to list". Bonneville Salt Flats ROFLMAO.

Nick,,,Yes I am planning to race it. I'm going to do all the NSW supersprints and some NSW hillclimbs but the problem with some of them is the car is so low I'll break the front splitter. I will be doing some interstate track days as well. I want to do Phillip Island/Calder/Sandown/Adelaide Raceway/Simmons Plains and maybe Queensland raceway as well.

I'm chasing another motor at the moment,,,so I can build my own. That was always the problem with the rotor but now I can play with what I know best. Bring on the slipper clutch.

no chance a gtr will catch you, well no road going car at least ( giant excepted ) I have driven these beasties here and a good SR3 are a good 8 to 10 seconds faster while the SR8 is another 5 seconds further down the road.

My mate here has the lastest carbon fibre SR3 and its a pure weapon.

Our 89 GTR Tarmac Rally spec, the last event was the illfated Mt Buller Nov 07 where we finished 11th outright, also got a 3rd outright at Lake Mountain last year and fastest outright stage time. Off to Rally Tas next month.

91 SSS Pulsar.

Cheated - was boght with a full 7pt cage, race seat and belts, suspension, tyres, B&M short shifter etc.

Interior is fairly spartan but is the whole idea. Car came like this, ready for track.

This is the new engine we've had built for it - Scat rods, Arias pistons, high volume sump, bigger oil galleries, shaved deck height, ported head, bigger valves, balanced crank etc built by PLR, good for 9,500rpm. $10k.

Should do well in its class. Its just for top gear meets and hillclimbs plus random track days etc.

jorg - well done. how did you enjoy those events? they seemed a bit pricey to me for the numbers of runs you get. What mods does the car have?

stagecoach - you've done things the smart way. All the time and money goes into prepping the car, buying someone else's car is a great way to save money. Just need to go over everything carefully and make sure they've done it all properly.

Chris,,,It's all good mate,,,Radicals are the best thing to come out of pommy land since the Spitfire. Mines an older 02 with 06 upgrades so it's chain driven. Theres a lot of "HAHA" street GTR's around that are bloody quick,,,GTR Jason is one. I'll keep them in check just hope everbody sees me,,,this car as you know is very low.

Yeah pretty happy with the car. Picked it up for a very good price and it has all checked out okay. My neigbour is a motor mechanic and weve gone over it with a fine tooth comb.

Going for a Top Gear meet soon, should be interesting. Interesting to see what the limits of the car are, used to have a 92 SSS as a daily up til a couple of years ago. Will be an interesting comparison.

I can appreciate that a lot of the work is done, but the downside of that is that i lose the knowledge and learning process that is the trial and error of setting up a car. Meaning that it will take a while to see what adjustments to camber/caster/toe/spring rates etc etc as well as tuning and such will bring to the cars handling.

Going to be a long process so if you see me out there just cruise around me haha

BTW screamin' (right back from p1), I was looking through your thread on "some other forum" the other day - good work there, lots of effort has gone into the lightening and prep.

How have the alloy doors lasted? any troubles with them or anything you would do different? Did you just change the skins or internals as well?

interesting pic of the non-chain one tacker, the rear end is quite different, it even has the same wierd way bar setup as the front. the earlier cars had a traditional style sway bar

BTW stagecoach - stagea has been a brilliant and comfortable tow car, even lugging a GTR around. And the 4wd can really help on any sort of marginal surface even wet grass etc.

Only problem is the fuel consumption is apalling, even with new 02 sensors, tune, manual etc etc etc So if you are doing long tows you may have to look for something else

I saw that you had a stagea, was wondering if it was your tow car.

Im looking to get rid of the mazda and pick up a stagea (black S2 5sp) as not just a tow car but for my daily as well. Maybe a few long tows. But i have a bike to zip around on from day to day so it cancels out!

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that 
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
