i agree with mad082 here, we don't really know what happened...

even if the cars were 10km over the limit the media is gonna say that they were involved in "illegal street racing"

why?

because it sells

crash investigators at this time must have an idea how fast the cars were going.

Dont forget - if there was a slight crest just before the intersection ,and the cars were going double the speed limit ( just for the sake of the argument ) then the 71 yo lady would have f00k all time to react !

I mean even if a cars doing 80 in a 60 zone it still gives you a little less time to get across the road etc.

i'd say there is every chance that the old lady was to blame and the commodores weren't racing. the police just assume that because both commodores were side by side that they were racing. how many times you you been driving through the city and had another car next to you?

and the driver of the third car has come foward.

this has got to be the stupidest thing ive read so far .....

noooooooooo the commodores werent racing and yet 2 people died..hahah sorry but if they werent racing do u think 2 people would of died i think not!..as already clearly stated speed was a factor look at the police site!..jeezz

maybe u should stop going down george street on a friday nite so u dont get the same type of car next to you...

im not going to bother if u reply it would be a waste of time to respond...

definately a chance she could be a fault,

BUT the damage, and the fact the old guy was thrown from the car, don't really suggest that the commodore drivers were putting along at a leasuirely pace.

Sadly, there's no simple solution, cause morons will continue to do what morons do. You can provide driver education courses for free every day of the week, and put a track in every suburb, and you can bet your a$$ some d1ckhead will still go and drag someone on a public road.

well captain cumstain, i don't live in the city so i couldn't go down george street, but considering that there are a shitload of commodores out there i don't think it would be too hard to have 2 next to each other at the lights.

secondly, the damage isn't actually that bad. if they had been going much faster the cars would have disintergrated. i have seen a few cars that have been in high speed accidents and they looked a hell of a lot worse than that.

thirdly, old people are frail. they can get killed much easier than a younger person, especially when the car is hit from the side.

now i am not saying that they weren't speeding. i'm saying they may not have been racing. sure they may have been speeding, but does that mean they were racing?

but at the end of the day, if the old lady pulled out in front of them and they still hit that hard they must've been close to the intersection when she pulled out. even travelling at 100kmh it takes you 4 seconds to travel 100m (as opposed to about 6 seconds at 60kmh). and the impact point on the camry was only on the nose so she must've pulled out just as they were entering the intersection. so at a guess (not taking into account the ability to brake earlier) if we assume that they were going 100kmh, if they were only going 60kmh the old lady would've been hit in the rear quarter of her car by the silver commodore.

Maybe it means that banning sports cars, whose tyres don't "explode when they brake", or banning multiple occupants in cars after hours, isn't the answer to stopping people from hitting other cars so hard it propels an occupant out of it and kills them instantly, leaving the other occupant who wasn't knocked clear of the vehicle to die a far slower death.

Edited by scathing

the media hit one of the guys pretty hard... something along the lines of "a man dressed like a racing hero"

The guy got charged this morning so i heard on the radio and was refused bail.

allot of emotional responces good stuff

if they were racing they were stupid

if the old lady pullexd out infront of people well hey accidents happen eh ? bs

most people are stupid

most people are even stupider on the road.

i dont drive to work becuase I will come close to an accident driving normally and calmly either on the way home or on hte way in due to someone's incompetence, impatience or anger. yes I live in sydney and I live an hour out of the city... hmm... see lots of people drive faster out west but driver dumber closer to the city... most twats trying to race you eastern / southern suburbs eh.

    • You're not the first person that's said that about this car lol. A Touring wagon GT in Spark yellow mica would be the dog's danglies 😆 I will keep an eye out for a future purchase for sure. The seats are almost like the OEM Recaros... electric adjustment for fore/aft and tilt movements except reclining.
    • Yes!! I love these! It's a shame its not the wagon though!   Thank everything that's holy that it doesn't have the interior of the Aussie delivered ones. Those seats are so much nicer.
    • I'm both sorry and thankful that you do that.
    • 2001 BE5D Subaru Legacy B4 RSK (3rd gen) EJ208 (pink injector) Twin Turbo 280PS 5-speed manual Full time 4WD "RSK" grade which means all of the above LQC option which means stock rear spoiler  I got it primarily to export to someone outside Japan who was interested. These BE5 Legacy B4 RSKs are going through a bit of a resurgence right know in Japan as they are one of the few cars from the "turbo, manual, RWD/4WD, 280hp gentleman's agreement era" cars that don't require stupid money to purchase. Which for some people might be a good opportunity to get as a base for restoration. If I can't find anyone to purchase it I will certainly be doing that myself over the long term. Why? Because it's properly fast in stock form, handles well enough for a GT sedan, there's still enough aftermarket and (if you can wait a while) genuine part support to make it a restoration candidate (<-- that will only get worse over time so it's a case of do it now or choose get a BL5 4th Gen). Mechanically it's fine, has only 89,200kms on the odometer. The problem with this car is that the body and exterior trims are weathered from at least the last 10 years being parked outdoors. I'm the 3rd owner, the first owner was the one that had it for 14 years and barely drove it, had a low-speed front impact (which didn't damage anything behind the radiator support) and got it fixed and sold it. The 2nd owner put most of the kms on it and parked it outside for the last 10 years, hence the door rubbers have seen better days but if you overlook those cosmetic details, it presents pretty nicely. There is some minor rust on the LH rear wheel arch which I'll have looked at too at some stage.  Also as you'd expect from a car this age, the clear top coat is gone, leaving a satin finish on the roof.  Mechanically it's fine (as you would expect from a car with less than 100K kms) but the steering does feel slightly vague around the centre position at higher speeds. So first on the list is to get the steering rack bushes looked at. There's also the Lock button on the remote which doesn't work, but the Open button does.... it means that the anti-theft system thinks it's always open? It seems like if you open the car and don't start the engine within 3 mins or so the anti-theft kicks in again without any beeps or signals. So if you got to start it after that, it won't. You have to push the open button again. That's how I understand it anyway. Just a small irritation but not a big problem to sort out. There's only one mod, the Wangan SPL muffler. Just a tad louder than stock. It's a really good mod for those who don't want to wake the neighbours but still want to hear a more prominent unequal length header EJ20 sound. Anyway I hope to get all those things done eventually, that is unless someone wanted to import it to their country from Japan (where I live). I'm open for negotiations as I really would like a Skyline... but this will definitely suffice in the meantime 🙂 *Disclaimer: This is how I picked it up from the dealer, minus the stuff on the back seat. I haven't cleaned the engine bay or done a thorough exterior clean, aside from spray painting the wipers.
    • Wow, even with the Audi logo centre caps. I love OEM wheel mismatches.
