Hey guys,

I got a speeding fine yesterday in the mail on a camera which i think i know it's location.

Bugger, only low as in 70 in a 60kms, 3 points $79..blah blah blah

Today i got 2 more on the same camera !

Different day than the first but both on the same day, one to work, and one on the way back.

70 and 72 in a 60kms zone,

Question is, is that allowed (probably)

If i'd got pulled over and booked the 1st time, you think you'd learn a lesson, but not 3 hits 3 weeks after :(

Had a look around but can't fine any similar occurances.

Maybe tomorrow I've lost my liscence with another 2 fines when i check the mail ??? :( :(

Thanks..

Birnie

i think there used to be 2 speed cameras on the spit bridge in mosman, sydney, right next to each other, and they took 1 away because people were getting booked twice for the same offence. but if it's at different times of the day, i don't like your chances of appeal

i don't like my chances either, just thought i'd ask.

Thing is, i've been commuting on that stretch for over 3 years and never been booked there.

Now i change jobs, now commuting down Castle Hill way and 1 week before my last day.bang bang F*&^*&^ing bang !

Hopefully that's the last one.

I got down over the years up to 11 points..

Behaved really well back down to Zero.

Now, about 3 months after hitting Zero, i'm back on 9 !!!

Freeeegan el !

and i guess the angle i'm trying to come from is....

They could book you on camera over a year and you wouln't know, then 12 months later send em all in the mail and say, oh by the way, you've lost your licence cause you've racked up 45 points.

But if you were booked by a real cop and fined on the day, you might take it a bit easy after that.

Maybe a stupid arguement but anyway :(

i really don't know?

I guess i must zone out a bit when commuting :(

Also think, i'd resigned and was waiting out the 4 weeks to get the hell outta there and start the new job.

So my mind was elsewhere for a good month or more.

So i am seriously worried i'll get more

hey mate trust me i know how you feel hey. i got done by the same speed camera 3 times in 15 minutes, yep didnt get the fines until a month late, all fines were 130 bucks. i was so pissed,

got dont in a 50 zone doing, 55, 55 and 54

There's a speed camera near where I live that has become a bit of a media issue.

A heap of people have had multiple bookings and since it hit the media dozens of people have come forward claiming the camera is inaccurate.

Some of them are very credible like a woman who hasn't ever had a ticket in 30 years gets booked six times in two weeks.

The RTA has sent a team of experts to examine the camera and claim it's ok but the issues not over with people calling for further investigation and talk of a class action lawsuit.

yeh i wasnt very hapy when i copped them fiines, was fairly pissed off, they were the last fines that i got. that was bout 3 years ago. all in 15 mins to, left me g/f went back there to get somethin then left again. and yep got all the fines a month from the time it hapened

Do you live in Wollongong?

If you're talking about the camera in Fairy Meadow, it's accurate

Birnie, that absolutely sucks man. Where abouts in castle hill is it? is it near the koala park thingy?

I know that there are a couple cameras in castle hill. I don't go there often though so I can't pin point exactly where they are.

Believe me mate, i'm on your side. Totally get what you're saying about if a cop pulled you over. 70 is hardly speeding - even down a hill it could roll up to 70. I mean if you said you were doing 100, then that's intentional, but 70 is hardly intentional.

Was it a fixed camera? shoulda been 3+ signs before it. Or was it a porta-revenue-raiser?

Were you actually doing about 70? e.g. could the camera be wrong?

Some of them are very credible like a woman who hasn't ever had a ticket in 30 years gets booked six times in two weeks.

Well if she's managed to not get a ticket in 30 years then, statistically, she's due. :D

i got done 3 times in 45 minutes because i mistook the speed limit for 60 when it was really 50. 3 times in 45 minutes, hows that.

First was my fault, i really was doing close to 70, but after that i adjusted to what i thought was the speed limit and got nabbed with another 2 fines. Fortunately, it was my first offenses an it was quite clear that i did adjust my speed; so they dropped the last one. Ended up being 4 demerit points rather than 5.

Just thinking to myself, i know for sure if i was stopped by a cop car and fined for doing 70 and told what the actual speed limit was, the other 2 would not have occurred. The area wasnt even built up; it is clearly a potential spot to allow for 60km/h. Sign frequency and visibility is poor but now that cant even save youl theya re too cheap to put up 50 signs so they have this campaign saying if theres no sign its 50.

perfect proof that speed cameras (the system) don't work in reducing speeding on the streets; because their system isn't entirely bulletproof.

like you have pointed out the whole idea is about sending you a fine (which should hit home) about the speed limit in a certain area. you're not really aware until X amount of days later are you? a hypothetical accident could have occurred in the 2nd and 3rd speeding event, and you would still have been none the wiser about the "aware'ing" that the camera should have been doing.

i would look into getting the last two dropped, go see a solicitor and see what your options are.

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
