the only downside to Nistune is that it doesn't have any "real" inputs for engine protection such as wideband feedback for lean out, or pressure switch inputs for low fuel pressure and/or low oil pressure

Other than that, it's 1000000000x light years ahead of PowerFC

Has engine protection ever actually "protected" a engine from failure though?
Referring to adaptronic/haltech and such.

My thoughts would be....it would be to late anyway...maybe it could stop "major" damage but at that point...you should know already lol
I guess it depends on the point of "failure"

Fyi, im at about 440hp atw with z32 afm
Pretty sure it can do over 500hp with a correct afm

Yes. I have seen video of an RB30 with a Link cutting the power when the oil pressure gets too low and no, the car did not spin out and crash in a ball of fire.

yeah ive seen many cases where engine protection has stopped or at lest reduced damage to engines.. if your paying top dollar for an ecu youve probably got alot of cash sunk into your engine too.. it wouldn't be used if it didn't work. theoretically

also my nistune has been flawless..even with the flex tune..definitely recommend

Whats the max hp the Nistune type 4 can handle. Is it suitable for a 30 25 neo with gtx3582r freddy plenum 1000cc injector hpx1 airflow meter.

Will it be up to the task

made over 600rwkw, airflow meter is the key, if you can measure the air your good to go. The new HPX in a 4" tube will go 1200 plus hp

  • 2 weeks later...

Would you be able to tell me how? Either through this thread or PM? I cannot find it in the settings.

Pretty much two options from my personal experience.

1. Set the AFM to Z32 and click on half value (if running 2) and adjust k value till your car hits stoich with o2 feedback disabled

2. Leave as is and adjust the k constant till you hit stoich on idle with the O2 feedback flag disabled

The beauty of the Nismo or Z32 etc. Is that the curve is nearly stock so there's no fancy calibration need like the HPX afm which I've yet to use.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
