Always 95ron+ If you use regular, try not to boost your car. The minimum you should use is 95 octane fuel.

Edit: I remembered you have a NA Skyline.

seeing as my line was designed to run on 100RON, i'm not gonna be a tight ass and run it on 91 or 95RON. it's only a few dollars extra for decent fuel ffs

bp ultimate or vpower racing :)

I just want to add that running your car on 91 octane fuel could give you less km from a tank than if you're running on 98. The money you save by running on 91 octane fuel is not all that much if anything at all when you're filling up your tank more.

In other words, you could get 300km out of a tank of 91 octane fuel, but you could get 350km out of a tank of 98 octane. Your engine is tuned to 100 octane fuel.

The BP up here (karratha) dosnt sell ultimate 98 they only have premium. Premium is the highest octane we get  so i might have to get my car tuned to that. . . . or add tollune (spelling) every time

These cars were only ever built for the local japanese market. Japan as far as I know isn't aware of fuel lower than at least 95RON so none of their cars are made to run on 91RON fuel. Especially skylines and related cars. I believe japanese fuel is above 100RON so I'd recommend 98 as its the closest you can get in many parts of australia. Some states have 100RON (lucky ppl) although that comes at a higher price too. 98 is quite safe.

Depending on how your car is tuned, you may have trouble even with 95RON - i know my stagea pings a little on it. Its BP Ultimate98 for my stagea. Have tried shell vpower but wasn't as happy with it. Each to their own.

Offtopic a little - I often wonder how many people who buy these new hot hatches and other new aussie-delivered cars realise that they need to run on 95RON or higher??

Many of us are only vaguely aware that 91RON fuel exists, and yet most people out there are unaware there is anything OTHER than 91RON... :)

It doesn't matter who sells it, if its cheap, people will put it in their cars.

BP ultimate in my GTR, although i run boost 98 in my civic.. and it sure feels real peaky lol and gets more km per tank, so i might try run that in the GTR and see what i get on dyno to see if theres any difference

I only ever run BP Ultimate. I've found it to be the best fuel for me.. Never really tried Shell optimax though.

Previous owner used to use Caltex Vortex - he filled up my car with it prior to handing it over, car would ping occasionally at higher revs. BP Ultimate has not done this.

Seriously, how much do you really save filling up with cheaper fuel.... a few dollars. Then take into account less k's from the tank of cheaper fuel..... if you need that $5 you saved that badly, maybe you should buy another car.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
