Yo Roy

Mate of mine how had a ceffy (Softy on NS) with all the mods

ap pfc 256 cams 2530 gtr inj etc etc

told me the other day that his car came on so much more aggresively due to the cams than all other rb20 wt 2530 fitted he'd driven

which I know would be atleast 2 others

he now has a standard motor in it after the old one died and bits were sold off to pay for the stocky

he has fitted a 2535 and is on the hunt for some cams for it

I told Sam that you tried cams and made less power than without - he suggested that perhaps your "wrecker" motor might have reground cams without you even realising ;) or are you convinced that those 'stock' cams really are stock.

Well it was a warranty motor from EKW after the original one they supplied me died because of a bent oil pick up and damaged sump the day after i drove off with it. The warranty engine needed plenty of parts off the other RB as it was incomplete and pretty oridinary looking. Inlcuding grind marks on rocker covers/manifolds from being removed from the original car . So hey, anything is possible...but i woudl highly doubt it. Im mor elikely to win Powerball tonight....or they are the best blokes on the face of the planet for giving me a motor from a modified car rather then a stocker like 99.9% of wrecker motors. Perhaps i should try buying an RB26 off them :(

I am respraying the cam covers in the next week or two, i will grab some verniers and measure them. I will bet money they are std ;) The mechanic who did the cam install didnt make any comment about the std cams that sat on a bench for over a week. The car idles like a stocker? Rather then having fiddle cams etc i had thought that perhaps they had supplied me an RB25DE but all the engine numbers say RB20, the torque it makes etc suggests RB20. Other then the power it makes and its reliability there is no reason why anyone would question it.

Dont forget i am also running more boost and have a good manifold....?!?!?!?!?!

1400r. There is still that sceptical part of me. Your friends car's comparison is comparing different cars, different engines, different ecus, different tuned etc etc. Possibly different gearing and gearboxes ????? Too many variables. Im not saying he is wrong...just its not a very good comparison.

LOL...i want to see same tuner, same engine, same ecu with cam gears...then cams ....???? :)

..i will add. I suspect if ppl took their cars to their tuner and said "lean on it, i dont want it to go bang...but so what if it does" then more ppl will be making numbers??????????? I think its a case of most tuners thinking that RB20 equals fragile so dont use too much ignition or boost??????? And dont want the rep of blowing engines....lol i agan dotn want it to die but i have promised it a warriors death, maybe rods out the side of the block through theguard and damaging a pesky GTR that is overtaking me :)

ahahah that would be awesome

bit off topic but how are you planning to paint your rocker covers? sand, primmer, heat proof spray paint?

or are you getting it done by a pro?

full boost should be around 3200rpm but i haven't really looked - just got this 32 recently.

mods are the usual:

z32 afm

GTR injectors

PowerFC

full exhaust

cooler

Bosch 040 pump etc

I'm pretty happy with it so far - but buying a skyline with a mechanical LSD tends to do that

At this stage the GTS4 GTRS is quicker but that might change....GTST has a huge weight advantage....

Yeah but the GTS-T has RWD disadvantage and @ 17 psi it struggles for traction in the 1st 2 gears.

haha, mine struggles for traction in second even on 14psi with the stock rims/crappy tyres and huge midrange of the mighty 2510

i'll update everyone once Sam has played with the tune & increased boost - should be interesting to see if it can crack 200rwkw on Sams dyno....

Cant say that has to be the case. This is my car on slippery semi polished concrete running over 230rwkws. On the street it doesnt struggle for traction in 1st or second gear at all.

Im planning on getting to the drag strip in the next few weeks so will see how that goes with regards to traction and 260-270rwkws from 20psi

Mine with 300rwkw and 700nm or torque was all over the drag strip in third. Amazed at how I got off the line.

Had to drop the pressure out of the MT's from 14psi to 12psi.

Held pretty good traction then but also started to create a bit of drag (cause the tyres are now a little flat)

Interloper...didn't you have a GTRS on the car previously?

for those who say its wheelspin city (mine is like this too, well in 1st it was);

what tyre setup do you have

what about suspension and diff setup

how does the power curve look - linear or lightswitch ?

Lolz...2 rb20 R32s eh? Man...1 of them is enough to burn a hole in my pocket...can't bear to imagine what 2 would be like...but yes...it is nice to be in a position to choose which car to drive to work...espacially when both are fun cars to drive...

which do u find better for everyday driving? the HKS GTRS or the 2510?

if we're purely talking about power/acceleration, then the 2510 is easier to keep up with traffic as i don't have to rev it more to get decent boost/speed. and combined with the lighter weight of the gtst, makes it drive more like my dads stock S15 :P

its nice, but your set up using HKS 2535 & cam gears to get that 217 on Sams dyno makes for a pretty sweet package - certainly something i need to aim for with cam gears :P

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
