I was just told that as of yesterday Famous are no longer insuring anybody under the age of 20.

Will any performance car insurer count ratings accumulated by being a nominated driver? I'm a rating three with the RAA (who do not insure R33s or late-model Supras), but a rating six driver everywhere else - or so it would seem.

:P

Edit: Just Car's prices are as follows.

1996 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS-T - $4,200.00.

1994 Toyota Supra (non-turbo) - $3,300.00.

Im about same same hippy - I'm 20, rating 2 and I'm paying $1,800 with Just Cars.

My wheels are insured for 2k, cd player $500, exhaust $600 (even though its probably worth more!!) and car agreed for $22.5k.

My excesses all added up are probably about $2,000 - $2,500 which sucks, but don't have a choice!!

In case you guys wanna know i am 18 and have my Silvia SR20DET insured with famous for $2000 a year but i have a $900 excess to pay if i have an accident.

Just one question my policy says my car must be garaged at like 11pm to 7am does taht mean if i'm driving in that tiem and i have an accident am i covered.

No, it just means that you have to park your car in the garage at the end of the journey if you get home in those hours or it won't be covered if stolen. You are allowed to leave it in the street if not within 500m or whatever it is of your home.

This is just to stop lazy bastards not bothering to put their cars away and then getting them stolen and making a claim, thus making it more expensive for all us poor sods who actually love our cars :)

I'm insured with famous, when I rang them they didn't appear to fussed regarding where I leave the car between what ever hours as long as I didn't go to bed some where wake up the next morning and go collect it.

If I were to do that then I would have to park it in a driveway or garage some where NOT on the street.

Not like I would leave the car on the street over night anyway. Thats one thing I have never done even with my crap old Cortina. :)

Famous are ok for any legal mods. So if they are not ok with your lowered height it's because it's too low :)

Joel, be wary of whatever they tell you on the phone. Check your policy book to be certain. I think there may be a copy on their website.

AFTER READING THE POSTS REGARDING FAMOUS INS. I HAVE NO DOUBT THEY ARE GOOD BLOKES BUT I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE ACTUAL INSURANCE CO. HOW MANY MEMBERS HAVE MADE CLAIMS AND ARE THEY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS . AS I WAS THINKING OF CHANGING TO FAMOUS AS MY CURRENT INS. IS NEARLY UP AND I AM ALSO BUILDING A PROJECT CAR WHICH WILL ALSO NEED INS. AND I DONT WANT TO LOSE THE HOUSE IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND MY INS.DOESNT STAND BY ME .

ANDY32, SPEAK UP, I CAN'T HEAR YOU.

Aren't all insurers in Australia regulated by APRA, and have minimum capital adequacy etc etc?

Has anyone made a claim with Famous and HAD a problem? I bet ppl have had problems claiming frmo the big companies (eg NRMA), especially if they have mods.

Famous are doing a great job making imports almost affordable, not to mention giving a further discount to club members.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
