wasnt planning on registering this one, especially now that i have sold alot of the interior parts off, also might be a little hard to engineer when you have upgraded fom 2 litre too 5.7 litre engine & 8 point roll cage. Ive also purchased a seat, harness and window net that dont really lend them selves to street driving. i was just planning on using it on the track. Between supersprints, hillclimbs, powercruise, drags and maybe some sliding, she'll get plenty of use.

As 4 another one, w'ell see how this one turns out first. but i cant see why not.

do you plan on registering for road use?

And when your finished, think you'll be up for another 1:)

  • 2 weeks later...

I think an alloy indy maxx mopar block is more respectfull, twin turbo'd one of those in street trim does low 8's in a 69 dodge charger / sherman tank. Drives to and from the track for good measure. I am trying to convince my brother to lean this way with the 69 charger we are restoring at the moment, admittedly it's a few dollars to do.

At least the alloy V8's like the LS1 and above are lighter than an RB block.

Absolutely. Only it's going to be one of those very long builds, it's slowly getting there at the moment.

No probs mate. If you can grab me some high res in the build type shots i'll run them in the appropriate section of the mag.

I've been after some WA in the build stuff for a while.

Thanks mate, just read ur thread, it gave me that added confidence in the decision to put the v8 in. Im keen to drive it and do a few passes but more keen to throw it around the track. Just got my hands on some fly-cut pistons as to run a more agressive camshaft grind so looks like im splitting the engine. Going to deck the heads and block to get the comp up to around 11:1, just clean the heads up a little. New set of valve springs and roller rockers and shes ready. Purchased some 42lb injectors from the States recently, probably look for an intake aswell seeing that our dollar is so good at the moment. hoping to make high 300kw at the tyres.

Buddy ur my new best friend!! haha, sounds awesome, bringing it to the bank when its done be good to go down the strip together, really turn some heads :)

The first problem in making a reliable skyline is the use of a Chevy.

To do it right you need a Ford.

A turbo happy enigine that with the right spark can run 1000 street hp bone stock. Thoes are the 96' up Ford Modular 4.6 and 5.4 allong with their new Boss 302 block rated for over 1000 nitrous or boosted hp. Though i dont have the same respect for the brand new motors as their aluminum and we all know why we hate the R35 and sr20's.

Atleast it's being modified. I live in a muscle car town with no improrts you'll ever see. The word Corvette and Mustang mean an embarasement for their displacement when an stock boosted 89 japanese 2L whops their LS1 or other small block ass. I've gotten allot of pissed off looks from guys as a jam it into 3rd and start making distance with a 4" exaust tip laughing at them. Best race i've ever had was with a 78 firebird running a freshly rebuilt 400ci with all the bolt ons, i just crept by from mid 3rd gear and he laughed at me saying "it took enough nitrous to run a hospital to get by me(him)" and i also laughed and said that was just a bone stock 2L on stock boost. He never said a thing after that and is always eyes ahead every time i see him.

The Ford blocks might be capable of taking 1000hp but the rotating assembly and heads sure as shit wont. At least not "1000 street hp bone stock"

    • I read this and thought "ah! I will do this scissor jack on the tow point thing!" I just use my floor/low profile/costco jack and lift the car up by the tow hook itself, then slide jack stands under. Never thought about using scissor into floor jack combo :p
    • Well, my new WMI system took much longer to finalize. I actually missed my dyno appointment last Friday and lost my 150$ deposit. I'll be going back in the next week or two.  To sum it up. I only kept the AEM tank from my old setup. I replaced the AEM pump with a higher flow/pressure ProMeth 30GPH pump. I also swapped over to a 6AN low pressure feed line to the pump from the tank. There's also a pressure switch you cannot see on the pump high pressure line.    This is feeding 6x 200CC direct port nozzles and 1x 500CC Pre Throttle body nozzle. All fittings are Swagelok, because well why not. I also have a 300PSI pressure sensor up front.    I now have my Haltech ECU controlling everything. I start my pump with a basic relay at 5PSI and deadhead it. I then PWM a 3000CC methanol Injector to control flow starting around 10psi. The pressure switch in the trunk, along with my tank level are safeties before I ever get to 10PSI, and then I use my pressure sensor upfront as a secondary safety to cut the WMI and corrections in case the injector blocks or a line ruptures.  Wish me luck on the dyno!
    • So, I'm back with bad news. There's no jack long enough on this planet that will reach the front subframe. If by some chance there is, it would weigh 200lb's.  I purchased a long reach jack... The damn thing weighted 120lb's and was massive. Didn't even come close, was still short at least a foot. It was a pain, but I brought it back. Next I decided HA! No problem, I'll get an Extra long reach jack. Well, I couldn't lift the box... It must have weighed 160LB's and luckily there was an open box in store. I took measurement and was still nowhere close.  Sadly I've lost hope and have accepted defeat.
    • Thanks for that tip, niZmO_Man. I think the battery is OK. It's quite a new one, but I'll check. Last time I needed a new battery, everything electronic was fine, except that there wasn't enough current to turn over the starter. I decided to order one of the partial AV system translation CDs from Car Audio Workshop in NZ. That might have some effect, or help me diagnose the date problem. 🤞
    • I suppose it was relatively stock too, the JZ motor handle most mods thrown at them without even breaking a sweat
