Actually not really a scoop, just an update on some questions floating around atm about the GTR. :)

Spoke to my dealer today about the GTR. The following info is what I was told. Its not 100% definate, but take it as you will. Whether you choose to believe it is up to you.

The guy is from Tokyo Prince Nissan and someone I have dealt with inregards to my personal car.

So he knows Im not just some gaijin off the street asking 20 questions. After speaking to him about a different matter, I asked the following questions and got the following reply:

*These are almost word for word so pls excuse the broken English*

Me: I have question about new GTR, now only auto. No manual?

He: No... Ken-san. .One year before (meant after) release date. V spec model.

Me: Honto? (Really), why you say?

He: Yes, yes, dealer meeting information.

Me: Manual Mission?

He: Yes.

Me: Ok, mmm No V Spec.... Spec V??

He: No no, V Spec.. V for Victory.

Me: How much?

He: ahh.... mmm... (japanese) maybe about 10 million. Not confirmation.

Me: ah ok.. Will have bayside blue?

He: I dont know... sorry.

So basicly, a manual scheduled to release a year after Dec 07 around 10million Yen but not sure about blue.

Again, Im just passing on what I asked for those who wanted to know.. Dont shoot the messenger.

Thats interesting and it totally contradicts what the DSG engineer at the motorshow told me. I cant say why exactly but i can tell you that i expressed interest in purchasing the GTR and was led to an area where i could talk to someone and ask a few questions about the car.

Obviously a visit to Ginza is in order.

im going to have to confirm this myself.

In Japanese, too.

Im sure we will let you know the info as we get it.

Sounds like they're testing the waters to see if the DSG is widely accepted before making any decisions.

Unless they will release a faster LIGHTER version with 6sp manual seeing manual is lighter then DSG (correct me if i'm wrong).

You've noticed the DSG is locate at the REAR of the car. The gearbox is not attached to the engine.

If it were, all that weight will move to the front of the car, thereby drastically changing the handling characteristics of the car.

Unless they can think of a way to mount the gearbox over the rear axle of course but i highly doubt thats going to happen.

Why would they make a V spec that potentially wont handle as well as the original version?

by the way, i would have thought after 3 years here, your Japanese would've been better. :)

You can put a manual gearbox at the rear in the same way you can put the DSG back there.

Porsche have been doing it for years - atleast they did when they built front engined cars.

I can think of plenty of cars off the top of my head that use a manual rear transaxle. look at most 80s afla romeos. front mounted engine, extension housing, rear mounted 5 speed box. if you can put a DSG there you can put a manual there. no way would they be moving to a conventional layout. IF they introduce a manual (and that's a big if) it would be a manual transaxle for sure.

I know about the alfas ( and their dodgy brake disc placement ) and the porsche but for Nissan to re engineer the drivetrain this early in the game would be folly. The DSG is made by HAND which means its going to take longer to deliver. Theres no way they would be able to keep up with demand considering the backlog of orders based on that alone if they were ever to introduce a manual.

I need to clarify that thats what i was trying to get at.

i also need to find out more on what ken posted.

Let say it is in the works by what ever means...

Purely from a sales perspective... If people knew there was a manual in the works it could possibly hamper sales from the perspective that people could be possibly willing to wait for a manual... Slowing sales on the DSG Model.

Just food for thought... And my opinion... Who knows whats gonna happen.

We have to take into account that N/A@ may not have a good grasp of the Japanese language and that there is more than a chance that things got " lost in translation of transmission " LOL :laughing-smiley-014:

nothing dodgey about inboard disks. it's a great arrangement. reduces load on suspension, keeps weight in near the centre of the car etc. very innovative, much like a rear mounted transaxle was.

anyway I was only replying to your post below. your post implied we were all talking about having a manual box mounted off the back of the engine. no-one (including ken) suggested that was the case. we all naturally assumed that if you replace one transmission for another it will still be mounted in the same location as the whole car would require re-engineering if it's location was moved. and it's never been done in history I can recall. if there is a manual it would of course be a transaxle just like the DSG currently is. and there is no need to think of a way to mount it, they already have with the DSG.

Good point there Sam! Exactly my thoughts. That happens for every product.

He was clear that a year after the current one is released, a manual V-Spec will be introduced around the 10 million mark. Remembering, this is from someone from Nissan to his current previous/customer. Im inclined to think he would give a better answer.

Again, Im not here to say there will be or wont be one...

I dont really care either way, but trying to ask YOUR questions from Tokyo.

Btw Adam, dont know why you keep mentioning Ginza Nissan. :) there is no Nissan Dealership in Ginza. Only a showroom. ;)

just don't know who to believe these days, a guy who actually had input in developing the car or someone on the dealers showroom floor selling the end product.

it's all "hearsay, he said, she said, i've heard" till you actually see the next model in a brochure on the the showroom floor

Jaguar E-type has inboard rear discs. Oldskool.

Aston martin V8 Vantage uses DSG rearmounted gearbox, and offers a rear mounted manual gearbox too. Its not impossible and Nissan wouldn't be reinventing the wheel if they had to offer it. Think they were just rushed for a release so they didn't have time to refine it... that or they wanna push as many DSG models out of the showroom as quickly as possible before moving onto manual sales.

    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack. 
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
    • OK, if it idles at 1000+ with the AAC, its not an idle airflow problem. The cold start valve just gives extra air when the engine is cold, but you have enough air without it to idle at 1000. I think you are back to a fuel problem, sorry. Can you see the fuel pressure staying constant or does it drop as the revs drop to a stall?
