With all the recent thefts in sydney, i thought id post up some simple methods to hopefully save your skyline!!!

1. Comprehensive Insurance - I know not everyone can afford this but its definately worth it with the stealing going on.....

2. Good alarm, im not talking the dodgey non black wired one that came with the car from japan, a good 2-3 point immob, loud siren and internal screamer...pager alarms are also a bonus!

3. Clublock + Window Tinting + Sun Shades!! - this is a strong visual deterrant, takes time for the thieves and is a pain in the ass + it makes looking inside the car much harder, as most skylines can get away with 5% tint and a sunshade on the front window makes it impossible to see inside the car!!

4. Kill switch, weather it be on your ignition source, or fuel pump power.. it would cost all of $5, mount it in a custom place, under dash, glovebox, under seat, under ashtray, in door, centre console, passengers side - pretty much something that will disable the car even if you try and start it with a key, its so simple and easy to install, do it properly, hide the wires, put the switch somewhere where no one would look, (this is also a good way of playing a trick on a mate, give him the keys and tell him to go for a drive... goodluck in starting it though!)

5. remove an engine component, coilpack ignitor, unplug afm, anything that will stop the car from running or running properly...

6. Think about your parking, park somewhere that people are, near an entrance to a Mall, near a resturant... not in a dark corner or alleyway...

7. Add an internal screamer to your alarm, yes hook it up to your normal screamer outside the car, paint it black, put it under the dash... i did an install in a car and added this, 120db inside a car is not pleasant.. i found it unbearable to sit in the car with it going off, there was no chance in hell of sticking my head under the dash where the actual alarm was... this would cost all of $30 from tandy or dse and is simple to install...

8. Any valuables or headunits or gauges or whatever, hide them or mount them in non obvious look at me fully sick places... if you can see them from outside the car, then someone will want them...

9. Steering wheel direction + Parking attitude, if all of the above fail then your car might be stuck onto a tilt tray, turn your wheels towards a kerb, get a mate to park you in, previously ive parked a trailer in the corner of a carpark with a motorbike on it and a car diagionally across the front of it to secure it... aint no one moving that torana to get to the commodore to move the gemini to steal the falcon..

10. A tracking device, not everyone can afford quiktrack but for about $400 you can get a tracking device that uses a simcard and the mobile phone network... you can track it online, up to a few seconds & m of where the car is, cheaper than alot of options and you can pinpoint the car!!!

If this fails, makesure you have people in the "KNOW" to track your ride down no questions asked... but not everyone has that bonus.. :<

I hope that I can atleast save one car, if anyone has anymore questions or needs someone to install any of the above into their prized posessions let me know, some are simple but ill also put you intouch with some trusted and qualified installers... otherwise ill work for beer!

If anyone has anymore pointers stick em down!

This thread bought to you by HAYSEY SECURITY CO

Thanks

Put kill switches under the carpet somewhere, preferably where it's not going to stand out as a lump and anyone looking at you starting the car isn't going to think you're up to anything unusual.

Ultimately there isn't any real way of stopping someone from stealing something they really want, however the longer you delay them, the more panicking and chance they'll bail if look like they're going to get caught, 'cause the only thing they really don't want is to be pounded in prison more than your car.

I'm starting work on an internal screamer system, once it's worked out I'll chuck it in the fabrication forum.

I'm aiming for 150db and under $200 with it's own backup battery... yeah, I want permanent injuries from this bitch :P

Screw a screamer, ill just leave my sound system on.. close or over 110db and at full blast with the four seasons on. will scare me shitless when i get back in tho :S lol

Good thread someone needed to make it with all of the missing cars. Hopefully mine is still parked when I walk back to it

Nice write up dude.

Now come over and do all that stuff on my car :P

Like i said bro, you saw my car, i did alot o f the above to my car so feel free to bring it over and ill slap some more security on..... just bring some more bundys!

I do try, hopefully i help.... feel free to sticky it!

ADDING ANOTHER POINT - Use you old address when rego your vehicle, don't ever let anyone in RTA know where it's registered. Like I said in the other thread, you never know how many dodgy c**ts are in there searching through the database and giving them away to crims for $50 a pop.

can you explain this point a bit more champ? what if they send you a letter?

Yeah, it doesn't work so well when you have fines that are 6 months over due because you don't know about them, you drive a modified import, and a friendly Highway patrol officer decides to run a random check while following you down the freeway.......

yeah thats a crappy idea.

a good idea is to pm me with where you put your kill switches. ill eventually let you know if they are effective.

nice write up Ed, hows the beast????

i like to put 2 kill switches in series in different places makes it 2wice as hard to find them both to start the thing.. also if they find one the car wont start and yeh again they wont be looking for another switch once they find the first :) i mean if you put it under the dash somewhere, which most people do coz of reachability, then it will be easy to find... hence have two!!!

i didnt read all the replies....

but ffs buy an r31 as a daily and leave the "insert GT whatever skyline here" in your LUG with all the advice Ed posted :)

And remember, LUG, not a communal, carport, carspace, LOCK UP GARAGE!!!!!

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
