there's S (Street?) Tune, R (Race?) Tune and finally Z Tune, which is meant to be the "ultimate tune that won't be bettered"... so it'd be in your best interest to not put out a Z Tune a month after the car's launched in a possible 5 year production run.

  • 3 weeks later...

Nismo will DEFINITELY want to TUNE an R35 to CAPITALISE on the tidal wave of it's popularity.

They're going to have an international consumer pool, many of them fat Americans with heavy pockets.

A Z-tune, or whatever they will call it, is as likely to be built as mammals need to breathe.

They'll also want to have a hand in adding art to engineering beauty.

I don't agree at all. I would wager there will be no R35 GTR Z tune. The Z tune was made for a couple of special events.

they commemorated nismo's 20th anniversary by building 20 special cars

they commemorated the ceasing of production of the LAST SKYLINE GTR by producing their FINAL tuned version. the Z tune.

I'm sure they will make parts for the new GTR, and they will almost certainly produced a lightly tuned version or versions (small power upgrade, slightly different body kit etc) like they currently do with the 350Z and like they have done in the past with the skyline GTRs, but I would highly doubt there will be an R35 GTR Z-tune. it just doesn't make sense.

Nismo don't make any S-Tune anything anymore so there will be no light tune R35 GT-R from Nismo. Nissan make all the S-Tune stuff now but will unlikely go much further than stickers and aero parts to retail at dealerships.

That does not rule out an R-Tune version and I'm guessing this is already in development. Nismo have a lot on their plate though developing the SuperGT car so I think this is not a priority.

Agreed there wont be a Z TUNE. But im 100% sure there will be some other special model to come few years down the track.

33 - 400R

34 - Z tune

35 - ??

I'd hazard a guess that the racing development team and the consumer product development team are seperate... and once the former collects enough data on parts then the latter will set about making products for consumer use.

    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
