Odd how so many people are pessimistic about its performance. I definantly think it will make the top 10 without a doubt. at best I rekon it will make 5th provided its not raining. I have faith in the GOD!

Its even more odd how deluded some people are about this car. The Carerra GT crapped all over the GTR's Ring time and yet you somehow think that this 1800kg car is going to be faster than it around a racetrack provided its not raining!?

Excluding the Atom - all the cars in the top 10 make more power than the GT-R (some LOTS more) and are lighter. And then there is the other factor.

As mentioned already tyres will play a huge role in where it finishes. The top cars are all running either Pilot Sports Cups or P Zero Corsa's I'm pretty sure (except the Atom which ran DZ02's - so even better). I really don't know how good the RE-01R's are but the RE070's aren't much chop and could result in upto 2s difference in times based upon tyres alone.

The one thing we can get excitied about though is that fact that on the TG leader board it should be in the top 5 - hell even the top 3 of cars we can actually get here in Australia.

Don't know about that snowman, the car seems quite capable of shaming some "on paper" far superior cars. I agree top 10 is not likely however :). I am fairly confident that it will place a lot better than many cars with "similar" specs.

Ok I was stuck at Perth domestic aiport today with my flight to work delayed by 4 hours and picked up the January edition of Top Gear magazine which has an excellent write up on the R35 GTR (apparently the Skyline logo has been dropped from the GTR) They took it for a bit of a fang on the "no limit" German autobahns and matched it up against a 911 turbo, plus the Stig jumped in for a fang too :ninja: . If you can get hold of the mag grab it as it's a pretty good read.

What rock have you been under since 2001

haha probably should have quoted the whole post:

9 - 1:20.4 – Koenigsegg CCX [5]

11 - 1:20.9 – Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

14 - 1:22.3 – Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale

15 - 1:22.3 – Porsche 911 GT3 RS

20 - 1:23.7 – Lamborghini Murciélago (retested)

As fond as I am of the V35.. its got stiff competition.. even at out of the top 10

It has its work cut out..

The R35's Nordshleife time is fractionally faster than the Z06 / 997 Turbo. Considering the Z06 made it into 16th place and the GT3 RS is meant to be as quick on the track as a Turbo (the Turbo time was in the wet so it doesn't count) I think it'll struggle for anything above the low teens.

And since there's the regular street tyre option (Bridgestone RE070) as well as the optional "sports" street tyre (Bridgestone RE-01R) it'll also depend on what setup the Top Gear guys eventually drive the car with.

I was reading a Wheels mag article on the GTR just today..

Apparently the tyre choice made no diff in lap times (so the japanese test driver of the 35 said).. the option is there to reduce road roar..

but that begs why buy softer tyres that are crap in the wet and chew quicker if there isnt a real performance advantage?

LOL.. wer't they calling it the V something?.. lol.. meh.. dont I look like a dick right about now? :nyaanyaa:

  1. 1:17.3 – Ascari A10
  2. 1:17.6 – Koenigsegg CCX (with "Top Gear Wing")
  3. 1:18.4 – Pagani Zonda F
  4. 1:18.9 – Maserati MC12
  5. 1:19.0 – Ferrari F60 (Enzo)
  6. 1:19.5 – Ariel Atom 2 300
  7. 1:19.8 – Porsche Carrera GT

  10. 1:20.7 – Ascari KZ1

That is the top ten fastest times. now I dunno why this is playing On my mind so much, Not really a big deal, but remember that test video they did with that guy in japan, who let a team borrow his car to get some stats. His R35 did a 0-100 in 3.3 seconds, and if i remeber they said if it had been better conditions if could potentially have gone quicker. not to mention the superior handling. What dazzles me is that it is quicker than a ferrari Enzo. and a porche carrera GT. all im trying to say in short, is that i will be soo surprised if its not in the top 10.

I rekon we get a Betting pool going?? or some sort of ghey prize for the person who can guess what time its going to pull. what do ya rekon? make things interesting.

Quicker then the Enzo and GT to what exactly? 100km/h? Big deal!

Keep dreaming if you think it will make the top 10.

If its not in the top ten it wont be too far off me thinks, This thing by everything i have & can read is one serious machine and althou it has a bit of weight we must remember it has nissans famous levels of grip and well balanced handling x 10

Top Gear won't allow the GTR to whoop Ferrari's, Porsches, Koenigseggs, Lambo's etc etc.

The show's producers will be cautious of tipping the scales- and turning potential buyers away from these expensive cars toward a cheap Jap supercar.

Top Gear could be sued (ok, i'm speculating) by these automakers. There's a hierarchy of sports cars and although someone like Jeremy Clarkson will toss off about how awesome GTR is, he'll never say it's better than an R8, or an F430.

For example, read the recent review in TG mag, where they pitted a 911 turbo against an R35. They tossed off there about the GTR there too, how balanced and powerful it is, but they said it just didn't have that 'magic' and sheer overall quality of the 911 as a driver's car and as a racing machine. They said GTR came VERY close to equalling the STANDARD in sports cars, but just missed the mark.

Sometimes i question whether the TG lap times are fabricated for this reason.

 How's the tinfoil hat working out for you?

If Top Gear was afraid of being sued, they wouldn't say the things they did about Rover (the guys at Rover even blamed Top Gear for their demise), or when they reviewed those Korean econoboxes and panned all of them, or what they say about Americans, or the French, or Australians.

someone like Jeremy Clarkson will toss off about how awesome GTR is, he'll never say it's better than an R8, or an F430.

Top Gear's picked the Vauxhall (Holden) Monaro over a Jaguar S-Type R on Top Gear before. Clarkson hates Australians. He hates Americans. He hates Vauxhalls. Yet he still picked the American engined Aussie car from a povo manufacturer over one of the classic British gentleman's marque.

The R32 GT-R also made Clarkson's Best Cars Ever Made list. I think it even came Top 10.

Clarkson also has weird tastes in cars. He likes cars with "soul" and "passion" and is fun to drive, rather than the technically more superior one. If you watch Top Gear, he rarely ever takes the better value for money or faster car if he finds it "boring".

You think that because it runs a better short spring straight line time, that its comparable on the track?

    • Yeah, plenty of air flow, there is a dedicated path that feeds the air in to the OEM intake tube behind the bumper As for a "tangible effect", maybe, but getting the pod/intake air out of the hot engine bay is worth it psychologically to me, even if it gives no performance difference, so the tangible effect in my Lizard brain saysss yessss  In the end, to me a tangible effect isn't always about performance, sometimes it a sound or a look, or even a...... feeling  Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
