VE Commodore Sportwagon To Tackle Bathurst 12 Hour

pdf_button.png printButton.png emailButton.png Monday, 28 January 2008 GM Holden will be showcasing its sleek new VE Commodore Sportwagon when it tackles Mount Panorama for the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on 8-10 February.

Holden Motorsport will field a 6.0L V8 Sportwagon SS backed Jack Daniel's for V8 Supercar drivers Shane Price, Cameron McConville and enduro specialist Nathan Pretty. The production version of the VE Sportwagon will be unveiled at the 2008 Melbourne International Motor Show, starting 29 February.

GM Holden's Executive Director–Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Alan Batey, said, "Holden has a great history of success at Mount Panorama, so what better place for the new ultra cool Sportwagon to be showcased than on the track at Bathurst?"

"The 12 Hour is a race for production cars so is an ideal event for us to spotlight new models in the Holden range. Last year we ran a pair of Astras – one an SRi Turbo Coupe, the other a CDTi Diesel.

"With Sportwagon due in Holden showrooms across the country in the coming months, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to underline the sporting pedigree of the latest model in the VE range whilst highlighting its great style and handling."

A concept version of the new VE Sportwagon made its world debut at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney last October.

The car takes VE Commodore's award-winning design and engineering advances and integrates them into a stylish and practical wagon that appeals to both families and businesses. It is the third VE derivative after sedan and ute ranges.

VE Sportwagon will be available in the full range of VE Commodore variants including Omega, Berlina and Calais, plus the sporty SV6, SS and the range topping SS-V and Calais V models.

I've got free tix to the 12hr, I'll take a few pics of it on the mount :P

That would be beyond awesomeness.

but I hate you for being able to go :P Living in WA really sucks sometimes.

Sooooo, how much do we want to see a 260 go up against one of these?

Agreed - I like the look of them too. In general, they look very European. There's something about the way the Euro's style their wagons that I love too.

Hmmmm, Audi. If I was ever to swap my RS-Four for anything, it'd be an (Audi) RS4 estate.

personally I'm waiting for Ford Oz to release the Mondeo wagon... such an awesome car. Wins hands down over the VE when it comes to practicality, features and price.

Being dragged of by what your fairly sure is a volvo with mags....priceless.....lmao!

LOL!^^

In the town I grew up in they were reffered to as "clitorus's" because just about every c**ts got one

A guy up the street has an old Kingswood ute. It has a large decal on the back window. Ute R Us.

Ford's 2.7L Turbo engine's got enough go.... keep in mind we're talking Ford Euro design here, not the neanderthal Ford US or Ford Oz stuff. It looks better than a stag, is newer than a stag, has more torque than a stag, makes more power than a stag, has more interior space than a stag, has better trim than a stag, and better fuel economy than an RB25 (M35 stags are a different matter).

Just a Volvo in drag :(

the commo sports wagon looks like a softened version of a 300c wagon.

At the end of the day tho, its still just a commodore wagon. Same as a vl, or a vb, or a vn. Its just the next incarnation, next one in a line. At least with a stagea it shows youve thought outside the box, gone something a lil different. not just bought what you neighbour, and THEIR neighbour has.

    • Given you're running a 2.8 and my 2.5 is not really like for like, I suspect there could be a bit more timing you could give it. What is the kW yield per degree you're putting through it? Here's my E85 map to give you an idea, where it was I could still get another 3~4kW per degree thrown at it.
    • It turns out that Setrab make a fan specifically for the oil cooler which is great and I've installed it with minimal swearing. I removed my 2x 12in push fans from the front of my aircon condenser and wired them into this. My main thermo fans kick on when I use the aircon anyway and would effectively already be working as puller fans through the condensor which is infront of the rad. The push fans (understandably) didn't really do much in the config they were previously in so now they're out. Now we're on to the "Oil fan doesn't really do much either!". Yes I'll duct it next if it does nothing in heavy use which it shouldn't. But hey, the object exists and fits great and is cool. Let me have this. The car is still in the "do my fittings leak oil now? do my wheels actually rub?" phase. I did a spirited drive on them and didn't hear or feel anything. Then I got back home and noticed there were grind marks on the inside of the rims, though I couldn't see where they were touching I got out the grinder and attacked the suspects. Note: I do not know how to use a grinder. Then I realised I had dragged my new rims across my concrete driveway before I did this drive. I didn't think I had damage at that time when I briefly looked...... but remembered this occurred after I did all the angle grinding. The grinding on the wheels in some very specific spots. It's not around the whole rim for example, which lines up with dragging it across concrete more than hitting a suspension component for even 1 full rotation. So everything is currently painted and taped up and I need to test it some more to see if it really IS rubbing, but from inside the car it doesn't feel like it is. In other news I attempted to do a before and after comparison of the heads/cam upgrade thing. Dynos lie, everything is in different measurements. Here is the data from the sandown back straight. Car go faster than before. Vroom vroom.
    • Here's my base ignition. +3 correction to redline when shooting water/meth which is always on. Looking at my old ignition table, I should be able to add 1-2 degree's next time I'm on the dyno.  Let me know your thoughts.
    • Given what I know now - same haha, but this was 12 years ago with second hand 740cc Nismo injectors in my S15 daily, I was too busy hunting elsewhere for the issue to even look at the injectors, running through some cleaner was a happy coincidence haha
    • Not a terrible idea. But if I ever had concerns that my injectors were sufficiently dirty to be causing me a problem, they would be out of the engine and onto the actual injector cleaner/testing bench.
