have you recieved the GT-R ? Prestige tend do edit the auction sheets allot.. dairyboy is by far a great importer.. but doesnt give refunds if you have put a deposit then changed your mind :D

Congratulations... you have posted the most moronic and plainly stupid thing I have ever read on this forum.

Prestige does not alter auction sheets: its not in their interests to do so since they recieve a once of fee regardless of the car purchased. Furthermore, if you had actually used Prestige's service you would know that the auction sheets are hosted by the Japanese auction house website, not by Prestige.

Get a clue before you start making accusations like that.

LW.

guys, we've had this thread reported for defamatory posts about certain importers (Prestige and J-spec). If you have praise, go nuts, but we don't wanna be on the recieving end of lawsuits because of your opinions.

Please feel free to edit your posts (before I go thru em n edit them n get you all upset) and remove any negative comments you may have about any importer. And refrain from doing so in further posts.

sorry. but its what i heard about prestige.. not from myself.. maybe hes wrong? (the guy)

so you are slagging a business over hearsay? nice work!

I appreciat where the SAU are comming from and I appologise for what I wrote if it up set them!

HOWEVER I do not appologise to J-Spec at all, what I wrote about J-Spec was true. If you want to know what I am talking about PM me and I will fill you in, in detail.

Apparently its ok to slag on Geoff but not the "other" dodgy companys.. Do I see some Bias here???

read... i said don't slag geoff or j-spec. i suspect the reason PranK didn't delete what LaL said is because it was completely discredited a couple of posts down.

re deposits, you are buying the car from the auction, the broker is just helping you through the process - at no stage does the broker own the car...you do.

So if you buy a car then change your mind....you just gotta sell it again. not the broker's issue.

I can assure you that there is no bias, having never bought a car from either of these organisations.

I can also assure you that if J-Spec, Prestige or any other company wanted to take legal action for any slander posted on these forums, theres only 1 dude who they'd come and see... and I'll let you work out who that is. :D

  • 1 month later...

Hi new to forum thought I would post here rather than make a new thread.

Im planing to spend 10 to13g on a 1989 gtsts skyline + $2000 for compliance regoetc within the next two months just gotta get my new job sorted. I have been looking for a while and think I will get quite a reasonable gtst for that money i just want to know if you guys think I will I dont want to kid myself as I have never imported a car before.

Thanks in advance James

how many other cars have you owned before the one you importing?

i reckon if you've owned a few cars and have ****ed around with them a bit previously will help.

if you don't like tinkering with cars a import could just piss you off.. Dunno

Gotta stand up for Prestige. Bought 2 cars in 6 months from Geoff (nearly a 3rd too), and he's been a pleasure to deal with. Been getting busy lately, but Geoff is always available to help out in any way that he can.

I don't usually get into threads like this, but if you haven't personally dealt with someone, I don't think you should be making assumptions about their service. Of course there'll always be someone who may have had a bad experience, but if so then let THEM post their tales (in a non-defamatory manner).

Geoff has always been straight up with me, esp. with the Yahoo cars. For this reason I can't see any reason not to import any other cars through him in the future.

jimmy, with that sort of budget you should be able to pick up a very nice 1989 GTSt. In fact with that budget you can even buy a post 1989 GTSt in australia these days. However keep in mind that 1989 GTSt's were only released in August (even tho production started in May) so you may need to keep the car in Japan till its 15 years old.

Also between 1989 and 1991 certain production batches of R32 skylines were recalled 3 times for various problems, for a car that old to still be on the road it usually would have been fixed up, but there are the odd one or two that may have slipped thru without the changes, and there's no way to tell until you get the car. What I'm trying to say is that a 1989 GTSt is not as good as a post August 1991 GTSt, but for the difference in price you ca usually to a stage where its far better than the second series R32's.

At the end of the day, a Skyline is a sports car and no person in their right mind buys a sports car to drive it like a pansy (no matter what country they're in), so as long as you are able to accept that fact and trust in your broker's abilities and gurantees then you should be fine.

Oh and you gotta have a LOT of patience n trust, some brokers will give you a step by step breakdown and reciepts the whole way thru requiring payments as each step is completed, others will get a deposit, do the whole thing for you and then get a lump sum. The method you get depends on the brokers you go thru. Either way problems may arise and delays are to be expected.

Thanks for the replies I am aware it is a 15 yera old sports car. I just dont want to be told its has good mechanicals/great exterier then receive the car and be let down. I also have another 5g on top of my stated budget if there is something wrong with the car. Basically the question im asking is for 10 to 13g will i get a nice r32 gtst with no major mechanical problems (eg require engine rebuild after 1 month of receiving it can pay for it if it happens though) and good exterior small dints scratches to be expected. From what i heard j-spec and prestige sound honest and I am deciding between on of those for my car.

Thanks James

James

Yeah I though about that but on the web sites you can get nice moded one for about 11g and and similar in australia cost heaps more in from what ive seen. So im prepeared to take the risk thats why I have 5 g spare incase something stuff up.

    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
