I Got Caught Speeding Today

I was driving along the Monash Freeway (Vic) a bit spirited (late for church) doing 105 in an 80 zone (damn roadworks should normally be 100) and was caught by an unmarked cop car.

It's my first ever run-in with the cops since getting my license. I'm still on my Probationary license.

The infringement carried a $292 fine, a loss of 4 demerit points and a suspension of license for 1 month, effective 28 days after the incident.

My question is, if this has happened to you or someone you know, were they about to get out of the suspension?

unless you had a very good reason to be speeding then no....cop it on the chin and move along. you could always argue that its normally a 100 speed limit and was caught out by roadworks but im sure they would have put up 80k signs durring roadworks.

i think its fairly obvious the reason why its reduced....for the safety of you, other motorists, and those who are working on the freeway.

As said earlier, just cop it. You wouldnt have a good enough reason to avoid the suspension anyway.

I have worked on freeways and its amazing to see the number of idiots going through a 40kph or 60kph section at well over a hundred. When we were working on Calder once, we requested to have the police there, and a guy got caught doing 110kph in a 40kph section. So be thankful it was only 80kph.

Unless it has changed recently or different for p platers then if yo were caught doing 25 over, they take of 2k's and that makes 23k's which means you dont lose your license.

If you ever get pulled over in a construction area ask to see there engineer certfied tape measure, in any construction zone, before they start doing radar work they have to get the plans of the area from vic roads and measure with an engineer certified tape measure where every sign sign has been placed, if one of then is out that cant do any radar work, they need to do this every day they do radar work in the area, even if it is one of the constuction zones with permanantly fixed signs.

No good behaviour bond in victoria? I know in QLD if you lose all your points while on your Ps its a 3 month suspension or 12 months on a 1 point good behaviour license. I'm not sure if the laws are the same in VIC though.

You can always appeal it anyway that will get you atleast another 3 - 4 months driving. I appealed a suspension n it got me another 6 months driving. When i went to court they made me pay the fine + the court fees but they didnt give me the points.

If you cant afford to lose your license for the month do a little research because generally there is always a way around it.

Take my advice.

Like me and my Skyline owning mates, learn to drive like a p*ssy in busy metropolitan areas. It's relaxing to know that even if a cop sees you they can flash radars all day, follow you for an hour, and you aren't speeding.

I drive like this now since i got fined.

Cops can still pull you over without you speeding (warning:defects) but this makes life SO much easier and it makes older people change their opinion of import owners being hoons.

Oh BTW, leave home on time :whistling:

Out of curiosity, did he mention power/weight laws?

And its 3km/h off until 100km/h, then its 3%.

That section has been 80km/h for a year now i would guess, so no chance on that front.

mate if its ur first offence, ide be inclined to take it to court and state just that. also say its usually a 100km zone and u simply didnt pay enough attention to d road works sign, hence thought it was still a 100km zone. Than remind them again of your previous clean driving history, and how it was a simple mistake etc etc. You might also wanna explain to them how you need a car for work and personal purposes etc etc

mate if i managed to convince the NSW RTA to exempt me to drive my turbo skyline (on my RED P's may i add), than im sure u can get off a first offence speeding ticket. Anyway you got nothing to lose. Just my 2c :cheers:

just deal with it... drink for a month and take taxi's... that's what i dodo and i had a blast...

but if you do take it to court remember to wear your best blouse

haha my friend had the opportunity to go to court in the place whre he was found drink driving (byron bay i think) but got it transfered to maclean whre we live BIG mother f*king mistake as the local courts judges' daughter was killed by a drunk driver it wass his first offence (like never even been fined police for anything let alone a road fine) and he was givin loss of license for (5) f**kin years hahahahahahahahahahhahaha that man is evil i tell ya u should she the way he peers over the bench hahahahaha have any of yous seen the movie (the dark crystal) he reminds me of that evil bird thing that go's hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmm! hahahahahahahahahahhaahhha

I think you'll find you get the one month suspension

And then, because you've gone over 3 points in 12 months, if memory serves me correct - you will also get the letter.

The letter states you can take a further 3 month suspension, or a no-more points for 12 months.

If you do get another point in those 12 months, you loose the plastic for a whole 6 months.

So basically get caught for even a P-Plate not up, 6 months off the road for you. Same for high powered vehicle :P

Now, the system could have changed with the new P-plate laws, but know thats how it was a few years ago

But if it hasnt, id be selling the car and buying something that is legal, and unlikely to cost you 6 months off the road

      You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.

      So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

      Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik

      Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
